Plot
Homer buys Lisa a birthday gift that shows he knows absolutely nothing about her. She is crushed, and to make up for it Homer hires a private detective to follow Lisa around and learn everything there is to know about her. Even though the detective does a satisfactory job, Homer refuses to pay when he gets the bill for a thousand dollars. As a result, the detective frames Lisa for freeing animals from and destroying a science laboratory. When the police arrive at the Simpson house, Homer and Lisa escape to a hotel where they disguise themselves. The police eventually track them down so they sneak out the back window and run to a circus, but the shady detective is there as well. Homer runs into the hall of mirrors and is shot by the detective. Lisa finds them and Homer tells the detective that Lisa is smart and that she found him sobbing quietly once. Lisa says, "You do remember something!" She then flashes the detective's eye with the laser pointer Bart bought her for her birthday.
Trivia
- For the first time ever, we see what Lisa's hairline looks like in this episode when she colors it black. (Not counting 'Lisa The Beauty Queen' because she gets different hairstyles).
- Homer's gives his e-mail address as ChunkyLover53@aol.com, which is also writer Matt Selman's e-mail address. Matt wrote back to fans as Homer. About a month after this episode aired, however, his address was disabled due to too many sent messages.
- Lisa ages, or at least has a birthday.
