Synopsis

When Kajal (Sridevi) marries Raaj (Anil Kapoor), an Engineer by profession, she and her dad (Kader Khan), automatically assume that he is rich, wealthy, and corrupt. But that is not the case. Raaj does not have an air-conditioner, a car, nor even a refrigerator. This infuriates Kajal, and in her mind she creates a separate world, where she is rich, wealthy, has several cars, and lives lavishly in a big bungalow. Even with birth of two children, and several years of marriage, does not change Kajal. When Jahnvi (Urmilla Matondkar) Raaj's boss's (Saeed Jaffrey) niece comes from overseas into their lives, she falls for the honest Raaj. After meeting the greedy Kajal, Jahnvi offers a large sum of money in exchange of Raaj. And Kajal, seeing this as her opportunity to wealth and an easy life, accepts, not knowing that she is doing a big mistake and this decision will change her life forever. Kajal, divorces Raaj & gets a reluctant Raaj & Jahnvi married.

She then uses the money she got in the bargain to buy a huge mansion & cars. She moulds her self like the page three socialites & this leads to Kajal neglecting her family. The kids & Raaj find companionship with Jahnvi who showers them with love. After a while, Kajal realises how far she has drifted from her family (with a lot of reminders from her mother) & tries to make amnends. When nothing works, she makes Jahnvi leave. Raaj, who is officially married to Jahnvi leaves with her too, saying that it is only fair. The kids want to stay with Jahnvi & they too tag along.

Later Jahnvi plans to go back to New York. Kajal on the other hand, disraught by her family abandoning her, donates all the riches, in order to pay her dues. When she learns that Raaj & the kids are leaving for the US, runs to the airport. She finds them lot, ready to depart. But in a last minute twist, Jahnvi tells them that she is leaving alone, but she is not literally alone, she is expecting Raj's child. So, the movie ends with Kajal getting her family back and Jahnvi leaving for New York.
