=== The Democratic election in Sark ===

Recommending a change of "The first democratic election takes place on the Channel Island of Sark, a British crown dependency." to "The Channel Island of Sark, a British crown dependency, holds their first democratic election." on the grounds that the former may be misleading to some readers. ] (]) 19:06, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
:Agreed, but I think "holds '''its''' first democratic election" would be better. ] 20:08, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
::Also, the link to ] should be under "first democratic election", not "takes place". The linked article tells you nothing about "takes place", but it tells you all about Sark's "first democratic election". --] (]) 20:22, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

:::But it's '''not''' the first democratic election there. They're moving from a Chief Pleas with 12 elected and 40 feudal members, to one with 28 elected and 2 feudal members (the seigneur and seneschal). Of course that is ''more'' democratic, but this isn't the first election nor the first fully elected chamber. It ''is'' the first time that Chief Pleas will have a ''majority'' of elected members though. ] ] 22:06, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

:::: The headline has been tweaked. Is it still a problem? --] (]) 20:36, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

:::::I still think it's technically incorrect. The article itself calls it 'The first fully democratic election in Sark in over 450 years', citing . In all of its articles the BBC is using 'first fully democratic'. Even with the 'fully' qualifier I'm not sure it's accurate (since two members are not elected), but I guess we should follow the sources. ] ] 23:21, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

To report an error you have noticed on the current Main Page or tomorrow's Main Page please add it to the appropriate section below. Errors can be fixed faster when a correction is offered, so please be specific. You can do this by pressing the button to the right of the appropriate section's heading. Also, please sign your post using four tildes (~~~~)

Note that the current date and time are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which may not coincide with your local time zone. The next day's featured article of the day, picture of the day, and anniversaries update at midnight (00:00) according to UTC. The current time is 09:58 on January 4, 2025 (UTC). (Update)

Once an error has been fixed, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history to verify that the error has been rectified and for any other comments the administrator may have made. Lengthy discussions should not take place here, and should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.

References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error, and a suggested rewording is helpful with a stylistic complaint. The main page usually defers to supporting pages when there is disagreement, so it is best to achieve consensus and make any necessary changes there first.
