Tathagata Roy is an Indian politician, academic,engineer and author. He is president of West Bengal state unit of Bhartiya Janata Party .

Tathagata Roy was born on 14 September 1945 at Kolkata . He studied Civil Engineering in Bengal Engineering College Sibpur and joined Indian Railways Service of Engineers .He worked as General Manager, RITEs and as Chief Engineer -Design of Metro Railways, Calcutta.

He took voluntary retirement in 1990 and joined Jadavpur University as professor and founder head of the Department of Construction Engineering. He is a former Chairman Board of Governors of TTTI Calcutta (2000 to 2005 ). He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers and life member of the Indian Council of Arbitration . He also holds a Law Degree of Calcutta University.

He was attracted towards Hindutva and became a Swayamsevak in 1986 .After leaving government service he joined the BJP in 1990 . Later he become a general Secretary and Vice-president of the state unit.

He has authored a book named: My People, Uprooted: A Saga of the Hindus of Eastern Bengal.

He has also written a text book entiled " Engineering Contracts in India : Law, Practice & Management" and has contributed many articles in well known journals.

Roy is the elder brother of the Trinamool Congress MLA Saugata Roy who is a former Union Minister.

Tathagata Roy is fond of trekking in the Himalayas and of pilgrimage .He has visited Kailash-Mansarovar .He walked all the way there. He has also visited Amarnath, Kedarnath, Badrinath and other shrines. In his spare time he likes to listen to Tagore's songs and to read.
