Welcome!

Hello, Historian19, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Misplaced Pages:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Misplaced Pages pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 09:39, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Your recent edit to Germans

Historian, please don't revert other people's edits without a good reason. Especially your own.

Just kidding...have a nice day.'

Bob the Wikipedian 17:11, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the confusion. I was checking my watchlist, when I noticed someone had reverted their own edit. I thought it was funny and decided to give them a mock warning. You're doing a fine job, just ignore me. :) Bob the Wikipedian 06:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Your recent edit to Netherlands

Please take care that overview articles can only accomodate a certain amount of information, and that you inflation of the Hisotry section in the Netherlands was too much, and has been removed. Also note that you yourself are responsible for providing a fully edited text (including wikilinks and references). Arnoutf (talk) 18:22, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

No idea what the other editor on my talk page is about.
Anyway, I noticed your recent edits. In this case I think the expansion is warranted, although I was a bit puzzled by your addition of a second section education under Government, I think that might be a bit confusing (esp since the education section does not deal with the Universities at all).
Ãnd a reminder that it is considered good conduct/proper etiquette in English Wikipeda to sign all remarks on a talk page (you may have noticed automated bots adjusting yours). There is an easy function for this. Just type in four tildes at the end of a message (~~~~) and this will be transformed into your user name automatically by some programming thing inside Misplaced Pages. (just like mine here) Arnoutf (talk) 23:50, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Show preview

Don't take it bad, but could you please acquaint yourself with the use of the preview button. It's quite painful to check your edits, when there are ten in a row---here a character, there a symbol, then a change from lower to upper case. It blows up the history function of the articles unnecessarily, while all versions need to be stored. Tomeasy T C 19:14, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Rudy G

I'm just kind of curious as to why you removed Rudy Giuliani from Italian American. Rockyobody (talk) 22:01, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

But I wanted to know if you thought it should not be there or if you were just screwin around. Rockyobody (talk) 01:33, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Walloons

Thank you for your collaboration on the page Walloons. I red many things about the origin of the Walloon people and the most important view, by many authors about that is : the melting-pot. I put two or three other citations on this issue next to the yours. I publish in my journal an article about the Berbers of Algeria. I know some things about this people and I have a colleague from berber origin (from Algeria). I have also many students from Maroco the same origin. A good friend of my son also. If it is possible to help me... I begg your pardon for my bad English, José Fontaine (talk) 20:22, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:AmsterdamArena-1-.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:AmsterdamArena-1-.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Misplaced Pages's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Misplaced Pages can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Arena6-1-.jpg

Please be careful that you are aware that images that are not made by yourself, including existing images photo-shopped by you, may violate international Copyright laws. Be very careful uploading them as Misplaced Pages as a project can get into major trouble (lawsuits!) if these are not removed immediately.
Basically, any photo, or rendering thereof, which has no expired copyright (last remaining author dead for at least 80 yrs or something like that), should be taken by yourself, by your own camera. Even then some works of art etc. may still not be free of copyright. When uploading images, please make sure you know how copyright works. Arnoutf (talk) 22:20, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok with the new license going with the Arena image I cannot say you do not have copyright. I hope you do realise that if you buy an image, in general you do not buy the right to reproduce it (in whatever form through digitsing it, scanning it, photographing it etc), and that claiming to do so is a crime if you have not. This is a fiarly tricky issue and I would personally not upload any photo/image that I have not taken/created myself from scratch. Arnoutf (talk) 22:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

You know Im bored, I skip copyright until I control another article then I'll be back to that.

Control another article - Did you ever read WP:OWN. If not by now I can no longer assume good faith in any of your edits.
Skipping copyright is a crime (no kidding). Misplaced Pages can receive massive fines if it does not handle these issues adequately. You being bored is no excuse for harming the project. If you are too bored to make sure everything is ok you should not upload images. Arnoutf (talk) 23:18, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

in any case you know, its fine now and skipping here is meaning "be back to it".

copyright violations

I have found you are copying material in bulk from "Encylopedia Britannica Online" into Misplaced Pages. As such, you are vilating copyright rules. Examples include your edits to Greece, Netherlands and Morocco. You should stop. I am reporing your activites for WP administrative review. Hmains (talk) 23:15, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Im editor who edit for Britanica, is there any problem ? my collaborators and I edited those articles for more than 80 articles on Britanica.

I think I said that to many users on Misplaced Pages.

Yes it is a significant problem. You may not copy material from copyrighted sources such as Brittanica at all. If you want to use the material, then it must be re-written in your own words, and sourced back to Britannica using a citation template. Kevin (talk) 00:05, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes I agree at all with you, only I dont have permission to do that only in work, thats the legal way, I edit for over 4 years on Britanica and all is O.K If I do something wrong you can signal it mate.

No, all is not O.K. It doesn't matter how many years you edited for Britannica, you don't own the material you wrote for them, and it cannot be used elsewhere. You can certainly use the underlying information (as long as it's not in some way proprietary) if it is expressed in an entirely different way, but you cannot simply lift text from Brittannica and insert it here. That's copyright violation, pure and simple, mate. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 00:15, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
And, incidentally, if it's not clear to you you are being signaled that you are doing something wrong. OK? See this thread on WP:AN/I. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 00:17, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Historian...Editing is a collaborative effort. Co-operation is paramount to working in a professional environment. All may be O.K. at Encyclopedia Brittanica, but your transition to WikiPedia has hit some road blocks. You repeatedly continue to ignore the simplest of editing procedures---signing, indenting, copyright infringement, etc. Please heed the call of your fellow editors and adjust to your "new" life at Misplaced Pages. No one here cares in the least about your past w/ Britannica but I'm sure we would all question its veracity.--Buster7 (talk) 00:57, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Look, allow me to summarize this as simply as I can. You may not, under any circumstances, post content to Misplaced Pages which has its copyright owned by another individual or organization and which is not licensed under the GFDL. The content of the Encyclopedia Brittanica is not owned by you, even if you had worked there at a time, and is not GFDL-licensed, and so may not be posted here. Please restrict your contributions to your own work. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 02:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Image problem

The file you uploaded at here and claim copyright to also appears to be claimed by the Associated Press , with the exception of the AP watermark which appears to be cropped out of your version. Could you explain how you came by the image? Kuru 01:19, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I shot that picture precisely by my camera somewhere on the web, is the problem here persist ? if I take it myself ??
I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. You took the picture in Iraq, or you took a picture of something on the web? When did you take the picture? Kuru 01:36, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I sayed I take the picture directly from the screen, so I think its belong to me.

No, it does not. I'll delete it immediately. Are there any others you've uploaded recently that were taken directly from another website? Kuru 01:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes.

I think I've deleted them all for you. Are there any others? Please sign comments in talk with ~~~~ Thanks, --John (talk) 01:53, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Looks clean; I've reverted to the previous stadium picture in netherlands as well. Please, please do not upload anything else until you understand our policies on copyright. Thanks. Kuru 01:55, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

O.K I should you cleaned the problem, no more, no thanks for doing it

Please cope with the rules

I am trying to protect your ass but I can’t if you still go against the rules by copy copyrighted material and uploading copyrighted pictures. Please come to the admin board to protect yourself — Wiikkiiwriter (talk) 01:45, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

No such bad language on my talk page, I'll remove it
I did not call you an "ass". I said I am protecting your "ass". It’s two different things and please remember to sign your posts — Wiikkiiwriter (talk) 01:55, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

And you know what I said ? no such bad language means ass is one of them Historian19 02:01, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

And you know what Misplaced Pages’s policies says about your vandalism? — Wiikkiiwriter (talk) 02:02, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

No I didn't read anything about vandalism, but do more about editing and improving --Historian19 02:04, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

For the last time. You did post copyrighted material and uploaded copyrighted pictures, Misplaced Pages has a huge section against this, Please stop — Wiikkiiwriter (talk) 02:11, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

those pictures are already removed. now stop discussing about this, I think Im very clear about that.

WP:ANI

FYI, there's an ANI thread with your name on it at Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#copyright_violations -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 01:53, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Can you please respond to this. It seems you have taken large chunks of material from Britannica. Is this true? Arnoutf (talk) 15:35, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I wont answer, I edited those article, not personally as I repeat it many times. Historian19 15:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Simply put: You posted the edits; hence you are personally responsible that the text you add do not violate copyright laws (regardless who provided the text to you). If you cannot guarantee that you should never have agreed to enter these edits into the project.
Based on your lack of answer I assume that at best you did not know there was copyright violation and did not care, and at worst you were aware there was copyright violation because you copied the text yourself (or something in between). In any case it does not matter, as adding copyrighted material is not acceptable whatever motive there is. Arnoutf (talk) 16:32, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

What copyright ? Do i have to edit differently ? thats because I edite for different encyclopedia's ? one private and one full of fools who dont accept anymore good edits. And then, why do you change Netherlands ? I edited from my hands to Misplaced Pages, I do not picked it from anywhere, revert that article, it is clean from any copyright, I picked pictures and articles from wikipedia, so revert it pleaseHistorian19 16:53, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Notice:

You may be interested in this: Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Historian19. Cheers! --Jayron32.talk.contribs 03:12, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Can you clear that ?
A request was made to check and see if you and the user Wiikkiiwriter were the same person using two separate accounts, which is called "sockpuppetry". A Checkuser - a trusted Wikipedian admin with special access to tools which can reveal specific information about users - took a look and determined that it was "Unlikely" that you and WW were sockpuppets, and also said that there were no obvious "socks" connected to either your account or WW's. So that's that.

In the meantime, can I suggest that you take more care in your editing, not only regarding the insertion of copyrighted material, but also in your use of English, your command of which is really not sufficient to be making complex edits. You might want to browse around a little more, get a feel for the place, and perhaps find a niche in which your abilities can help the project. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 06:14, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

That was obvious. Historian19 could never write a single sentence in proper English and then came Wiikkiiwriter, with a perfect English. I mean, do we do Checkusers now for every yet so vague suspicion?
There are enough issues to deal with Historian19. I find it not necessary to make up another case just because it would be so easy to penalize. Tomeasy T C 08:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

No thats noy my account. I have only one and I dont see the Interest to have more than one. I never edited directly with my own words like you say, so all comments about my english are totally wrong.

"I never edited directly with my own words" See, this is what people are afraid of. However, I was referring to your comments on talk pages and I think that they are written by yourself, isn't it?
BTW, you can sign your talk page comments (and it is a good habit to do so) by typing four tildes, ~~~~, at the end of your comment. This will then automatically produce a tag showing your user name (linked to your user page), as well as time and date of your post. This is what you see at the end of all the talk page comments made by your fellow editors. I will do the same now. that is I simply type ~~~~, and here is the result ... Tomeasy T C 13:04, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

And whats the problem if i use the bad english with bad users that think something unbelievable and do something stupid because they do things that looks like accusing of inexistant charges, so, me I dont care about simply. I think I will not ripost in any other talk, because I think this is only lies that does not support to be replied by answers, so take time writing anything you want or you think. We close this right now, right there. if a true problem persist the we should talk. --Historian19 13:11, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree with TomEasy, there are many issues with Historian19, but none that made me suspect sockpuppetry. Arnoutf (talk) 13:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

And I think Im improving in case to deleting contrary to some vandals, this is certain as I edited more than 500 articles, so do not tell me your dirty words. Historian19 15:01, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Altrough, you can use my real name (joseph) contrary to my user name (historian19)

Blocked for one week

Historian, I've had a chance to review your contributions after seeing that you were reported on ANI. Not only have you been proven to have engaged in pretty blatant cut-and-paste copyright violations, but every image you've uploaded since your return has been found to be a copyright violation. You're engaging in an editing pattern that can't be tolerated on Misplaced Pages.

For that reason, you're blocked for one week. Count yourself lucky--if it wasn't for some of your constructive edits, it would have been indefinite, especially in light of the fact you've been blocked twice already. I suggest you use this time to have a good, long look at our copyright policy. Consider this your final administrative warning, as next time, more than likely the next block will be indefinite.
