Thanks for clarifying the humorous nature of your comment. It occurred to me afterward that it might have been meant in jest, and I appreciate you confirming that. In that light, it was actually quite funny! So, again, welcome! Unimaginative Username (talk) 06:15, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Feature: Video game notability

Video game related articles fall under niche categories on Misplaced Pages: "Culture and the arts" and "Everyday life". Because of this, they are often required to demonstrate notability more than other topics. Misplaced Pages defines notability as "worthy of notice", and considers it distinct from fame, importance, and popularity. Though it is acknowledge to be related to fame and the like, it is important understand that being famous, important, or popular does not mean a video game article should be on Misplaced Pages.

Being notable means that a topic has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Misplaced Pages's policy also stipulates that this only presumes to "satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." This means that though an article may meet the criteria on paper, it is up to the community to decide if a topic truly is notable and/or violates other policies such as WP:NOT. In short, just because a video game, character, or related topic exists, does not mean it should also exist as a Misplaced Pages article.

Dealing with non-notable topics

Articles that do not meet the criteria are either deleted or merged into a relevant topic.

  • WP:Articles for deletion (AfD) handles the deletion of non-notable articles, among other types, and has an established process to begin discussions about reasons for deletion.
  • If an article is a subarticle of a larger topic, merging it into the larger topic article is a more desirable action. For example, the main character of a video may not be notable, but has received some mentions in reviews. It would benefit both topics, the character and its video game, to include the content into the article of the video game; essentially using a small, weaker article to strengthen a larger more notable article.
Things to remember
  • The best way to show notability is to provide reliable sources about the topic.
  • Notability is less about keeping articles out of Misplaced Pages and more about making sure readers are provided articles about significant, quality topics.
  • While you may think a topic is notable, others may disagree. Try to keep a clear perspective when assessing notability so discussions can reach a consensus.
  • AfD is more of a last resort and is not always the best course of action to take.
  • Consider starting a merger discussion first, as some editors may not fully understand why an article they started is not suitable for Misplaced Pages.

Did you read Shamrox's version of the article? For the most part the sources were not themselves the problem, but that his edits were highly POV and effectively turned the article into a hit piece in pretty clear violation of WP:BLP. I'm going to revert it back for now and leave a note on his page explaining this better. Thanks. Ten Thousand Bullets (talk) 19:10, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree his estrangement from his son is encyclopedic, although one of his links regarding that was a primary source, to a message board. His edits to the lead section consisted of citing multiple critics' nicknames for him. Maybe some of that belongs, but not the way it was written. Looked to me like vandalism, so I went the revert route. But I've just left a message on his talk page to start a dialogue about it. Ten Thousand Bullets (talk) 19:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Before making potentially controversial edits, such as those you made to HP (disambiguation), it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Otherwise, people might consider your edits to be vandalism. Thank you. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:46, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Huh? Are you even aware of what WP:CONSENSUS is? It was decided that we would stick to the letter of MOS:DAB#Linking to a primary topic, regardless of the primary topics being redirects. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Correction: WP:CONSENSUS is an official policy on Misplaced Pages. However, it can change. You just have to initiate a new thread on Talk:HP (disambiguation) and see if the majority will agree with your proposal. I'm only making a "big deal" about it because of the agreements at horsepower and Primary topics. Nothing more, nothing less. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 19:12, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
It's fine. ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 19:27, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: FIRExNECK

I am sorry, I don't know how you got dragged into this. Considering the scope of the edits made by FIRExNECK I considered my response to be very civil. Calling a rival club "Douchebags" and insinuating that the fans have ties to racist organizations (without substantiation), does not in any way sound like good faith edits. I did not report FIRExNECK, I undid the edits and I posted to his talk page asking that he use his time making constructive edits. I don't know how this could have been construed as uncivil. I do not plan on making any more of an issue over this, but I think it is the communities responsibility to protect itself from people who continue to deface others work, and that is what I did. Re: Rrs-studio

I speak Spanish, using Google language tools gives"RRS-study Research Group Architectural and design. Founded in 2006 by Riccardo Renzi is formed by Michael Mosconi, Stefania Bracci, Niccolo 'CURRIN, Sara Braschi in addition to the collaborations that have seen over time join the group even Margherita Caldi Inchingolo, Georgina Monica Lalli, Eva Maria De Marco and to Today, Cinzia Cossu and Federica Decurtis. The group concentrates its research in urban and man-made environment." I saw no notability in the article. ttonyb1 (talk) 19:33, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Featured editor:

This issue we are trying a new type of newsletter feature: "Featured editor". This is a chance to learn more about the various editors who contribute to the Video games project as well as the roles they fill. If you enjoyed this new feature and would like to see similar interviews in future issues, please drop us a note at the VG newsletter talk page.

David Fuchs (also known as Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs), is a long time video games editor that has written a large number of the project's Featured articles. He has been ranked high on Misplaced Pages:List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations, and has assisted in reviewing and editing more many. Recently David has begun to assist with image reviews for Featured article candidates, and branched out into other types of articles in addition to video games. He can normally been seen on the project's talk page offering advice and his input on the various discussion taking place there.

  1. What drew you to Misplaced Pages, and what prompted you to begin editing?
I got involved due in part to (I believe, my memory is fuzzy) finding the site while doing research for Advanced Placement Europen History during high school. My earliest contributions (in December 2005) were creating topics based on what I learned, as well as creating an article for my high school with another friend. I soon became involved with editing topics related to Halo video game franchise, specifically the article on the parasitic Flood.
  2. What got you involved in writing Featured articles?
I think for most editors it's a shiny accomplishment you are striving for, and natural for most editors to try and get an FA. I first nominated an article for FA in 2007, after about a year of inactivity onwiki; it didn't pass as it was poorly written and didn't follow our guidelines for writing about fiction; I also took a couple of tries to get my first video game FA (Halo 2).
  3. What article(s) are you most proud of writing or exemplifies your best work?
I suppose Myst is a sort of accomplishment I can point to; I started work on the article on May 2 2008, when it looked like this, and submitted it to Featured Article Candidates one day later. I think that's some kind of record, but I dunno. In terms of being a good read or something I'm very happy with, however, I'd have to look at my more recent work, specifically Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Bone Wars.
  4. How do you pick the articles you work on?
Whatever hits me. There's many articles I haven't gotten around to editing and improving as planned because another article has caught my fancy.
  5. What advice would you give to editors seeking to write quality articles?
In the words of one of my favorite cartoon characters when I was a child, "We must do reeea-search!" Even in video games, online sources don't usually cut it. Even after getting an article to FA, make sure you continually trawl the internet and elsewhere for more information to add to the topic.

Biting newcomers

I hope you're taking the comments on Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/330th Bombardment Group about WP:Bite to heart. It seems you forgot your own note to self:

"Don't delete articles unless they're pure vandalism. Don't even think about it! Someone *will* attempt to prove wrong any point you try to make, and they can be right about it."

It would be ok if you constructively engaged this editor if you didn't want to apologize to him. Toddst1 (talk) 17:56, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Maltese (dog)

You can go over every single change at the history section of the article. One of those changes would be *http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Maltese_(dog)&diff=prev&oldid=267991313

There you can find out much on the content dispute.

It was narrowed up to these points:

  1. Whether or not to mention the fact that Mljet is in today's Croatia
  2. Whether or not to mention one of the Croatian names for the dog (French name included in the infobox)
  3. Whether or not to mention the fact established by La Fédération Cynologique Internationale which says: "His name does not signify that he originates from the island of Malta" as the first sentence of the dog's standard.
  4. Whether or not to include Bochart, in his "Hierozoicon," also quotes Callimachus to be correct.
  5. Whether or not to include this sentence "During the first century, Publius, the Roman governor of Malta, had a Maltese named Issa of which he was very fond." just after the completely POV sentence "Maltese are generally associated with the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea" thus injustly strengthening the claim of the POV sentence.
  6. Whether or not to include in the history section the entire Publius/Martial poetry, or perhaps in the trivia section.

I belive that it would be biased to mention Italy, Spain, Lyons, Malta and some other countries which have less to do with the dog and not to mention Mljet in the context of Dalmatia and Croatia.

Pietru il-Boqli is full of accusations and disruptive, he offended Tool2Die4. Pietru il-Boqli started his negative approach by name calling, like East European, Croatian, Yugoslav, Italian. He is the only one who sees my editing as problematic.

I cannot stress enought that Pietru il-Boqli deleted sourced information with his POV editing and that the diff shows only his intervention.

Also I would like to mention that Tool2Die4 (also edited the article) stopped reverting my editing when I provided explanation of my editing on his talk page. Then Pietru il-Boqli offended him.

And finally, before I started editing the Maltese (dog) article it was completely Malta biased version which Pietru il-Boqli and some other editors (Tool2Die4 including) maintained.
