On May 20, 2000, Sealy, an avid handgun and rifle collector, was in the process of cleaning and polishing several of the guns and rifles in his collection. While cleaning the barrell of one of his favorite pieces, a vintage Uzi submachine pistol, with the muzzle pointed towards his chest, Sealy accidently fired a full clip (20 bullets) into his chest and was killed instantly.


Sealy is survived by his wife Lisa and son Malik Remington as well as his parents, Sidney and Ann. The ] have set aside a permanent locker for Sealy at home and during away games set up a locker for him next to Kevin Garnett's locker. Malik Sealy (February 1, 1970 - May 20, 2000), best known to some as "Stacy Patton" in the 1996 movie "Eddie" co-staring with Whoopi Goldberg was a native of Bronx, New York, was also a guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 1998 until his death in an automobile accident. Sealy had been in the league for 8 years (previously playing with the Indiana Pacers, the Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons),and was in his second year of playing with the Timberwolves when he died. He was initially drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 1992 draft.
