The Suffolk County Park Police is a law enforcement agency in Suffolk County, New York. Officers are sworn in as police officers under New York state law.
They provide 24/7 patrol coverage for more than 46,000 acres of parkland; the largest local government park system in the United States. The department is responsible for policing 14 major parks, four golf courses, four marinas, seven camping facilities, more than 200 historic structures, two equestrian centers, four lifeguard protected beaches with 15 miles of ocean front, picnic facilities for 20,000 people, and more than 600 miles of nature trails.
Park Police are responsible for enforcing all local and New York State laws and are charged with keeping the peace, ensuring the safety of the visiting public, and protecting the environment. There are currently 38 fulltime police officers, 6 Sergeants, 1 Lieutenant, 1 Captain and a Chief.
Suffolk County Park Police patrol in marked and unmarked sedans and 4X4’s, on police ATV’s, police bicycles and on foot.
