Jabba attempted to kill Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca by throwing them into the Great Pit of Carkoon when after Han's attempted rescue. However, he was foiled when Luke Skywalker (with the help of R2D2) got a hold of his hidden lightsaber and broke free. In the ensuing skirmish, Han Solo inadvertently knocked the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett into the Sarlacc's mouth. In the Expanded Universe, Boba Fett managed to escape from the pit. He set off explosives from the inside, killing much of the Sarlacc. Fett was then found by a fellow bounty hunter, Dengar, after crawling out from the Sarlacc.
