This page is where exchange comments with friends and other editors. All users are welcome to leave a message. Unless you state otherwise, I'll assume we are (or can be) friends. Feel free to leave any notes, suggestions, complaints, or anything else. I respond to almost anything reasonable, (but I'll only respond to vandalism or stupidity if it's funny). Text between two tables
Thanks Ched.
I'd started by using http://people.fas.harvard.edu/~sdouglas/table.cgi which was fine but maybe I messed up a ′cut&paste′.
Are there other converters/templates & instructions out there for tables on wiki?Frisasu (talk) 20:03, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

GA question from TechOutsider
- Tech, I think what you mean is that a Good Article should follow the standards set by its relevant WikiProjects. These standards have nothing to do with the categories that the article belongs to. A good example is an article about a Formula One driver should include the WP:F1 standard infobox that show's the driver's race results. Royalbroil 04:45, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Happy April Fools day!
Happy April Fools day! Hope you don't have Conflicker. I noticed something funny when reviewing NIS's history; when I created my account and started editing, it seems as if all the other editors, registered and anon, stepped aside and didn't really bother with me. My initial edits were far from NPOV, however no one really cared. Many of those editors who revised NIS before me have never revised NIS after I came ... TechOutsider (talk) 15:56, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it was obvious to me anyway, that you were making big improvements to the article, and that you were learning very quickly. I'm glad it's working out so well for you too :-) ... A lot of folks come in and get reverted, crude edit summaries, snarky remarks on talk pages and all .. they get bit like that and they leave... it's a shame really. I'm sure we've lost some very good editors over the years. I'm glad it's worked out so well for you .. you're doing a really great job! Let me know how the GA goes too. — Ched : Yes? : © 16:18, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Malware Removal
Hey Ched, wondering if you could pull up that old article of yours for me. Just interested in what you would do in case of malware. TechOutsider (talk) 22:48, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- I think you mean what was once posted on one of the talk pages; either Talk:Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or maybe the Talk:MS Antivirus page. The problem is that the post was deleted (WP:NOTFORUM). To summarize though. (and this is only for the specific strains of malware that malwarebytes detects).
- Download the install program from Cnet
- Run the install program
- Run the now installed program - it should update on its first run, but I always go to the update tab, and click "update" just to make sure.
- Go back to the Scanner tab: and pick which type of scan to do. (full scan takes longer than quick scan) click the scan button.
- If it finds any malware, you'll probably get a report file opened in notepad (you can close that), and a notice to "Show Results" (or something like that) .. say ok .. click on the show results button
- By default, all items will be ticked, just click the remove button. In some cases you'll need to do a restart to remove some items at startup.
I'll try to dig out the version I saved of the article if you want - it may have some references that you could use. I basically gave up on the article - too much bickering for my tastes. Some want to say it's advertisement, want to remove a bunch of relevant info, delete references, remove sources, etc. I'm just not one to edit war over that kind of thing. Do you want me to try to find my version and post to your user space? — Ched : Yes? : © 02:36, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- Sure why not. I was just interested TechOutsider (talk) 20:30, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

- Ummm ... ok. Is there a particular article you're referring to? I edit a lot of different articles about a wide range of subjects. I'm sorry for not knowing exactly which edits or articles you're referring to. — Ched : Yes? : © 11:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi, thnx 4 that, no particular article--just the hypocrisy of it all-- how did u like the the love with queen liz —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jute string (talk • contribs) 11:51, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm really not that familiar with Queen Elizabeth to be honest, so I'm not sure how the hypocrisy ties in there - but I'll try to read up on it a bit. As far as the "manufacture of arms" goes, I suppose it would be great if we had no need or desire for killing and hate. I wish that everyone truly got along and cared for each and every human being out there. Hopefully someday we'll get to the point. ;) — Ched : Yes? : © 12:15, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Will do! Though it does seem like it's pretty quiet out there. Thingg 14:16, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- sounds good to me. I'm not downtown, but only takes me about 20 min. to get there - depending on traffic. I've seen a couple Steeler usernames, but I don't know if they are local - think one guy might be up in Butler, but I haven't been around long enough to know everyone either ... lol. ;) — Ched : Yes? : © 14:31, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't know if I'd be able to make it or not, but I've always wanted to go there sometime. Looks like a cool city. Glad you liked my userpage too. :) I don't know if you monitered RfA last year but Kmweber was notorious for opposing pretty much everyone there. (I think he eventually got banned for trolling, but I'm not sure) so when people saw that, everyone went crazy (in a good way) as you can probably tell. :D Thingg 15:24, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

An update
Hey Ched. Hope your doing fine. I'm not, because my Spring Break is almost up. Anyways, now I'm trying to push Norton 360 and Norton AntiBot to GA-class. Both of those products have/had a relatively short life span (less for me to cover!) and there is a lot of insight on the web, such as why did Symantec create the product? Who did the product target, corporations, enterprises, consumers? That kind of information allow me to develop and mantain a mindset in the article -- to the reader: look, there were 6 million bots in 2006. Industry experts suspect the majority don't know their computer is carrying out criminal activities. Norton AntiBot takes a different approach to malware detection; it monitors behavior .. -- putting a product in context really makes the article sound enclycopedic, not wikipedic and is a sucker to GA-reviewers. NIS on the other hand, is just way to broad, and towards the end it became almost a list of features. I'm collaborating with User:Tyw7, you may have met him. He's a really great editor. And it's always nice to have a second opinion. Just giving you an update Ched. It's cathartic. User:TechOutsider April 4, 2009.
- Hey TechOutsider, always good to hear from you. Sorry your spring break is about over, but best of luck in your upcoming classes. I'll keep an eye open on the 360 and Anitbot stuff, and when I run across something, I'll gladly add it to the article. I've noticed Tyw7 around (kind of hard to miss a sig. like that ... lulz). Seems like an up and coming editor - good luck on the collaboration. ;) — Ched : Yes? © 05:43, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Your sig
Hi Ched
Your sig was rendered across lines for me and I messed around with it and didn't find that replacing all the spaces with fixed the wrap (I'm not a master of such things). If you care, here is a brute force solutions, which (given how generally reasonable and short your sig is) shouldn't cause any friction: <small><span style="border:1px solid #0000ff;padding:1px;">{{nowrap begin}}] : ] ]{{nowrap end}}</span></small> Happy editing, Bongomatic 10:40, 5 April 2009 (UTC) I'll watch here in case you happen to reply, no need for {{tb}} or anything else on my talk page
- hmmmm ... getting invalid sig. message when I try to save. I'll work with the "nowrap" thingie and see what I can come up with. I'll just go back to my old sig for now. — Ched ~ /© 11:04, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm. Maybe {{nowrap}} are prohibited in sigs (reasonably, if so!). Bongomatic 13:25, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- I tried both the {{nowrap}} and the <nowrap></nowrap> tags, neither seemed to work for me though. Oh well, I'm content with good old fashioned — Ched ~ /© 13:44, 5 April 2009 (UTC) :-)
- See Misplaced Pages:Line break handling#Nowraplinks shortcomings—there are browsers that handle punctuation differently. Chrome was allowing breaks, but IE8 renders this without breaks regardless of line length: <small><span style="border:1px solid #0000ff;padding:1px;">] : ] ]</span></small>. Didn't try Firefox or Safari. People who uses Chrome deserves to have things rendered poorly (and all sorts of other bad things to happen to them). Bongomatic 13:47, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, different browsers render pages in different ways. As much as I do like Chrome for its speed, I only use it for surfing news related articles. I use Firefox for Misplaced Pages work. IE? .. meh, not so much. Whatever works for the user at the other end - I'm, not one to judge. I'm not gonna worry about the sig. box wrap - maybe one day when I'm bored I'll play with it a little. I noticed it will do that with even very short admin sigs as well. ex:Pedro. If I size my window just right, the box breaks with one part on the top line, and the second half on the bottom line. I'm guessing that's what you were getting with my sig in a box. Oh well, no biggie, if it's easier for you to read my sig this way, I'm fine with changing it back to a no frills version. — Ched ~ /© 14:52, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- I know where to find you. I kinda like your boxy one. Bongomatic 15:03, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

SPI report
I'm probably not the person to answer this (I don't handle many SPI cases and only commented there because it was linked to from the AIV report). If an account is a really obvious sockpuppet then it's usually enough to report them to AIV without bothering with an SPI case. Hut 8.5 11:17, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

The stick candy dispute seems to have been licked. The more recent battlegrounds were over a photo illustration for ice-cream headache (a.k.a. brain freeze) and whether any commercial links can be used to indicate the existence of some of the items on the List of liqueurs. The buzz indicates that it was quite a barroom brawl... :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:45, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
