Mat was raised in Eugene, Oregon. He attended ] in Chico, California where he majored in English Literature and played soccer. Mat Kearney (CARN-ee) is a singer/songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. His music has an acoustic base fused with hip hop. He is signed to Inpop Records with general distribution by Aware/Columbia Records. In addition to singing, he also plays guitar, piano and harmonica.

Mat was raised in Eugene, Oregon. He attended Chico State University in Chico, California where he majored in English Literature and played soccer. Later he began songwriting, and his four-song demo found its way into the hands of musician and Gotee Records owner tobyMac, who encouraged him to pursue music.
