You wrote 'maybe another time'. But most of the objections raised against Halibutt, a contributor who has been with us for more then two years, are actually about a fairly old events. I think that most of the objections raised there have been addressed already addressed. You may want to read Halibutt's responces there - to me they prove that he is a trustworthy person. Not perfect, no - but who among us has never erred? That he can ackowledge his mistakes, apologize and learn from them is to me a sign of a good editor - and a good person. Why should we wait any longer to recognize him as a valuable contributor? And how long should we wait? A months? 6? Another two years? I'd like to ask you to reconsider your position, especially in light of Halibutt's responces.--] <font color="green">]</font> 22:41, 16 November 2005 (UTC) |

Vandalism by User 67.43.20.53
I know you left a message on my talk page, and as I am not sure you will view my response, I am leaving a message here. User 67.43.20.53 has been warned by another user 4 times in the past week using talk1, talk2, talk3 and talk4 and yet the user persists in posting pictures of penises, using words like "bitchass". Do I have to repeat all 4 warnings before I may list him or her a a vandal. Aren't the warnings of my fellow wikipedians sufficient? --Waterspyder 17:28, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- Its better to warn them again. At times, more than one users use a computer, so the other user may heed the warning and decist. Also, for AOL accounts, one IP address is shared by multiple users, so it may be a completely different person. Oran e (t) (c) (@) 17:35, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Céline Dion
Sorry not to have replied sooner. I've gone through the article, doing some tidying & copy-editing. the main thing I found was that the article made use of album covers; as that's not really fair use of what are fair-use images, I think that they'd tell against FA status. The main omission (so far as I can see) is a section of samples; that's something the FA people are pretty hot on. I hope that my edits and suggestion have helped. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
question from a new user
- I'm a relatively new user and I've come across several time where I have to add a reference to some information. I add it at the end of the sentence. However, I'm not sure where or whether it matters or not. Is it like #1 or #2?
- This must seem like a pretty trivial question, but it just bugs me. Appreciate any help. --Gflores 03:45, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for the response. I thought so too, but I keep on seeing the other instance all the time. example: link. Also, on this official wikipedia MoS page, it's got an example that contradicts what you said... so, I don't know. example. Odd, huh? --Gflores 20:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Barnstars & fair-use
Many thanks — very kind of you.
As for the images: it's true that there's been an increase of concern lately about fair use, but it may be just that the people at FAC are less sensitive to the issue than I expected (they can be a bit unpredictable, I think, though I've not had much to do with them).
Oh, about Hollaback Girl — Winnermario replaced some of the crasser English with one of his usual conciliatory edit summaries ("Reverted a few edits: Mel Etitis, if you remove any part of someone's quote, I will file a complaint against you"). Such a sweet lad (no, I don't swallow the stuff about his being a female at university; he's a boy in his early to mid teens). I've tried to rewrite parts of the article so that they're more grammatical and more consistent, but whether good English and clarity will be allowed to stay is doubtful. They'll much prefer to reinsert such classic sentences as: "'Hollaback Girl' is a mid-tempo dance track featuring numberous brass instruments, and a drum beat of which is similar to Toni Basil's 1982 number-one single, 'Mickey'." --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:03, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

The mother is to embarrassed, and says "Oh it's nothing son." So the son turns and asks his father the same question. The father says "Its the elephant's penis, son." Bolded #1's
Just to let you know, there's a discussion going on at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Music/Tables for charts as to whether #1's in chart tables should be bolded or not. Also, per WP:MUSIC, links to "years in music" articles shouldn't be piped (like they are here: 2005). Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 21:46, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Crazy in Love
Hello! Just a few comments: we try to avoid fanzine words like "smash hit", "flopped", etc.; U.S. and U.K. link to redirects, and it's best to write them in full; and the current discussion and poll at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Music/Tables for charts has so far come down pretty heavily against bolding "1" in these articles. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:08, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, by the way, I'm assuming that "Bonnie and Cylde" was a typo (not yours), and I've corrected it to "Bonnie and Clyde". Thanks. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:10, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Jamaica
I noticed your note to Tobias Conradi on his talk page about moves to Jamaica. I've done some similar work (mostly with Antigua), and I have some questions:
1) In Jamaica, are the parish names used commonly? In many other Caribbean islands, the Parish divisions are considered "not relevant" by the ISO, in other words, simply lines on a map with little other meaning.
2) What about disambiguating with country? Like, "Saint Mary (Jamaica)" or "Saint Mary Parish (Jamaica)", as parenthetical disambig seems to be the favored method among countries (And makes it look different from cities). Also possible is "Saint Mary (Jamaican parish)".
2a) However, for the Caribbean, I've been working on a different standard; "X Parish, Country", because there were so many parishes with the same names, and so many of them aren't relevant.
2b) HOWEVER, if the parish means more in Jamaica than in, say, Barbados or Antigua, then 2a doesn't matter.
2c) Also the fact that Jamaica's parishes have a lot of unique names, whereas other islands have many similar or identical parish names. For example, the islands of Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent all have a parish named Saint George.
So, I guess, my main questions are: What's the standard usage in Jamaica, is it a relevant division, and which disambig method do you prefer? Please let me know on my talk page. Thank you so much! --Golbez 06:34, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Networking
Hello, I read your user profile and was happy to discover such a person existed. I am very similar to you in many ways (young, intelligent Jamaican in Northern America plus a few other things). I am a college student at Hamilton College (small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere in central NY if you don't feel like looking it up) who is somewhat fed up with society in general. I'm looking to create alternatives to many of the social games and procedures that have largely been created by stupid European Males. I'm trying to develop an online network of intelligent people to help me do this. Right now I'm trying to make a decent amount of money through online entrepreneurialism and then leave school and start my own establishments for people who are also dissatisfied with the status quo of North America and Europe. Please email me at rganemcc@hamilton.edu or AIM me at RobinGaneMcCalla if you are interested in discussing this further.

Thank you! :) And I (Extraordinary Machine) award the Deletionists'/Editor's Barnstar for trimming the Mariah Carey article down also. I often find it difficult removing content from articles, especially when it's me who added it in the first place, and I know you also contributed much of the information on the Mariah Carey article that you later had to remove. Still, the article is much better for it, and I'm about to submit it for peer review to generate even more discussion. I probably won't have time to take a look at the Celine Dion article this evening, but I'll try to by Friday (have an essay to write :-().
