Psi Sigma Phi (ΨΣΦ) Multicultural Fraternity was founded December 12, 1990 at Montclair State University and New Jersey City University. The Eighteen Founding Fathers established Psi Sigma Phi as a service oriented multicultural organization. Multiculturalism is not indicative of the physical composition of an organization on a chapter or national level; it is a state of mind-a philosophy that embraces any and all aspects of cultural identity with unconditional respect and equality. Currently, Psi Sigma Phi has 11 chapters nationally.
History
The founding fathers of Psi Sigma Phi understood that simply accepting all cultures does not equal embracing them and in a highly interdependent and hyphenated society, they needed an organization that embraced multiculturalism. With that notion, a brotherhood was forged and Psi Sigma Phi was born on December 12th, 1990.
About Psi Sigma Phi
Mission
Psi Sigma Phi's fraternal goal is to establish a unique bond among men of different cultures. The anatomy of this bond is hard work, sacrifice and courage from all of its brothers-brothers who together strive to break social fears and ignorance. This fraternity will only open its arms to those who will continue this ideology.
Cause and Effect
Psi Sigma Phi's mission is not to increase membership; it is to open eyes; to broaden the views of men in our society. To create an opportunity for communities to feel at home in a racial and cultural utopia, a microcosm of a unified America.
Whether they are the cause or the effect, anytime the cultural divide has been breached in any facet, they are successful for their purpose is not to increase in size, but in influence.
