The SSA Program is all about learning about herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians. It is located in ], ]. This program is for people who are "interested in hands-on ecological fieldwork, exploring the hardwood forest around Chestnut Ridge Camp and Retreat Center, and making a little money on the side!" | |||

People who join this program get many benefits, which, among others, consists of: A $200 honorarium at the end, provided you come to 6 field days after the camp, the whole cost of the 6 day camp and other follow-up days, paid membership to the NC Herpetological Society, and costs of all needed books. Partial honorariums will not be awarded for partial completing of the program. | |||
Members also get to meet other kids and make new friends, sometimes ones that you keep for life. | |||

All high school students are eligible to be in this program. Applicants must be either entering or in high school. They must fill out and application and write an essay also. 1 letter of recomendation from a teacher is also required to secure a spot. | |||
