Han Lue (born April 8, 1972 - circa 2006) is a fictional character who appears in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and its prequel Fast & Furious (2009).
Backstory
Han grew up in the U.S. (presumably in Los Angeles), where he met Dominic Toretto. The two formed a fast friendship, with Han becoming part of Dom's race crew. Dom eventually won a Plymouth Roadrunner from Han, and they raced together much (Han himself developing a taste for American muscle), with Dom going so far as to call Han family. However, Han eventually goes to Tokyo after a last fuel hijacking run in the Dominican Republic, where he meets and forms a business partnership with Takashi, Tokyo's Drift King.
Appearances
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
In this film, Han is first seen after the main character, Sean Boswell, is confronted by Takashi for talking to his girlfriend, Neela. After Sean challenges Takashi to a race, Han offers to let him use his car, a Nissan Silvia S15. After Sean wrecks the car, Han picks him up next day in his Mazda RX-7, claiming that as he wrecked his car, he must now work to pay back the money it cost him.
After talking with Takashi, Han reveals their partnership, and, seeing Neela talking to Sean, discourages it, knowing how Takashi will react. Han gives Sean a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX to drive, and takes him in under his wing after his father kicks him out, teaching him how to drift and revealing that he grew up in America. He tells Sean that what kind of person someone is can be defined not by his car or talents, but by the people he surrounds himself with.
Han is visited later on in the film, after Takashi learns that he has been stealing money from him. Han confesses, but before Takashi can do anything, Twinkie flips the switch on the doors, causing Takashi and Morimoto's cars to be jammed in it, and Han, Neela, Sean and Twinkie quickly escape, Han in his Mazda. A car chase ensues through Tokyo's streets, with Takashi chasing Han and Morimoto chasing Sean. Han, seeing Takashi trying to wreck Sean's car, slows him down, shifting the focus to him. Takashi shoots at Han throughout the chase. Han drives across a junction and is hit by a Mercedes S Class, causing his car to flip over. Han's car starts to leak gasoline from the crash, while Han is unable to move from his injuries. As Sean and Neela finally catch up to Han, the gasoline leaked from the car reaches a nearby fire, triggering an explosion and killing Han.
At the end of the film, Sean agrees to race Dominic Toretto only after learning that he knew Han, with Dom claiming that they were family. Dom also reveals that the Plymouth Roadrunner he currently drives used to belong to Han.
Fast & Furious
Han appears in the fourth film, which takes place prior to the events of Tokyo Drift still a member of Dom's race crew. He aids him in the fuel hijacking in the Dominican Republic, wounding his arm in the process. After the hijacking, he talks to Dom, saying that after the heat has died down, he might go to Tokyo, claiming, "I heard they're doing some crazy shit in Tokyo". This sets up Han's appearance in Tokyo Drift, and explains on-screen his and Dominic's connection.
Han's Cars
- Plymouth Roadrunner (1970) - A car formerly owned by Han, which Dominic won off him a few years prior to the events of Tokyo Drift. It is seen at the end of the third film driven by Dom in the final race against Sean, and constantly throughout Fast & Furious.
- Nissan Silvia S15 (2006) - Han's old car, first seen in the race against Takashi at the beginning of the third film. Sean wrecks it and later uses the engine in his father's Ford Mustang Fastback.
- Mazda RX-7 (2000) - The car Han drives for most of Tokyo Drift and in Fast & Furious. It is coincidentally the last car Han drives, as it explodes while he is still inside it (too injured to get out) in the race against Takashi and Morimoto.
