John Allen Wakefield

I came across some information about John Allen Wakefield. He was the one who wrote the account about the Bad Axe Massacre having served in the Illinois militia that took part in the Black Hawk War. Born in South Carolina, he moved with his parents to Illinois. He was trained to be a physician then studied law and was admitted to the Illinois bar. Wakefield was an abolitionist and supported measures to keep Illinois a free state. He served in the Illinois House. Later he went to St. Paul, Minnesota and became the first justice of the peace. In the end he settled in Lawrence, Kansas where he took part in Bleeding Kansas. The pro-slavery Missouri Ruffians set fire to his house in Lawrence. In the 1860s-he served one term in the Kansas House. An very interesting man.I added his name to the Black Hawk War template.Thanks-RFD (talk) 18:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi I am working on the article making notes-I have some other things take care of. The Wakefield article is taking a little long because John Allen Wakefield was involved in several different events in 3-4 states-Many Thanks-RFD (talk) 14:28, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
I started the article a stub- about John Allen Wakefield. My apologies for taking so long.Part of the reason I needed to take care of some things. Also John Allen Wakefield was in several different states serving in 2 different state legislatures- was 1st Justice of the Peace in a city of a 3rd state. He also took part in Bleeding Kansas as well as the Black Hawk War.So I had to spent some time trying to sort his career out. Also I added Victory, Wisconsin to the Black Hawk War template. Finally many thanks for responding with in the legacy section of the Chief Black Hawk article and that hockey team.I did the same in the BlackHawk Hockey team article pertaing to Chief Black Hawk-Thanks-RFD (talk) 18:33, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

-:I am trying to locate info about Gratiot's Grove for a future article-Thanks-RFD (talk) 15:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks for the comments-Gratiot's Grove was mentioned in the Wisconsin Historical Society website. I don't even know if there is a historical marker there. The society did do some of field work/dig or someone did-Thanks-RFD (talk) 16:06, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Gratiots' Grove is located in Lafayette County, Wisconsin 1-3 miles south of Shullsburg.I am reading up on Gratiot's Grove. One other suggestion is that there is an article about Chief Wapello who support Chiek Keokuk in maintaining peaceful relationships with the settlers, etc. I added Wapello to the Black Hawk War template and the article could be expanded-Thanks-RFD (talk) 17:25, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

The Simpsons house

Hey - I stumbled by your rough copy for the Simpsons House. I must say, great work. I couldn't believe someone would be able to make something like that into a neat article, but you proved me wrong. -- A /contribs 23:39, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Zapped

Hi Ivo, the cat is deleted, as requested. Glad to help, Ruhrfisch ><>° 03:09, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Glad to do it - I see you are working on Black Hawk War articles more - the new book by Jung seems very good as a source for expansion, Ruhrfisch ><>° 03:15, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I have not read it - had the chance to look at it and read most of the chapter / section on Bad Axe. There were things it barely covered (some of the smaller incidents) but the background of the war I flipped through and the chapter on Bad Axe were well done and seemed like they would be very useful for the articles. Ruhrfisch ><>° 03:25, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I am not aware of any historical map sources for Illinois and Iowa - sorry. Ruhrfisch ><>° 04:42, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Abe and Black Hawk

I like the Abraham Lincoln in the Black Hawk War article - there has to be a DYK in it, perhaps something from Lincoln's own joke: DYK ...that Abraham Lincoln, who held the ranks of both private and captain in his Black Hawk War service, later joked his only "bloody struggles with the mosquitoes"? Ruhrfisch ><>° 18:25, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks-I put the template back in-RFD (talk) 00:50, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
No problem with Stacy's Tavern-it was mention in the Glen Ellyn, Illinois article and I wikified it it needed to be done anyway-Hope you are well-Thanks-RFD (talk) 11:10, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Ricin link

Hi Ivo, I can delete it so only admins can see it. If you want it even more removed, it can be "oversighted" so only a few users with very high permissions can see it. Let me know which you want done. Busy doing something else - more later, always good to hear from you, Ruhrfisch ><>° 14:05, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

It is one of those admin tricks I have done very infrequently, but I am pretty sure I can delete it without removing the rest or messing up the history too much. Let me try - if worse comes to worse I can delete the article and restore just the current version (I think you are the only author so it would be ok for the GFDL that way). Ruhrfisch ><>° 14:23, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
It is no trouble at all. I finished the thing I was working on before and will delete that part next. Ruhrfisch ><>° 14:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
OK, I deleted the whole article and then restored everything except the objectionable material (2 edits). Please check it and make sure I didn't delete something you wanted left in. There has to be a DYK in there too. Ruhrfisch ><>° 14:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I was pleasantly surprised I did it correctly on the first try - usually these things I only do a few times a year I screw up and in the worst cases have to ask someone else for help on ;-) Good luck with the DYK, if the Lincoln Oak is long enough, I think it is another DYK candidate. Ruhrfisch ><>° 14:51, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

GA nomination for Bad Axe Massacre

Hello. I've reviewed the article Bad Axe Massacre for its nomination for Good Article status. I have found several issues that I believe need to be addressed, so I am placing the article on hold for seven days. My complete review may be found here. If you have any questions about the review or individual issues I have raised, please note them on the review page (which is on my watchlist) and I will answer them there. When you have addressed the issues I have mentioned, I will be happy to re-evaluate the nomination. Thanks, and good editing. — Bellhalla (talk) 06:16, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! University of Illinois Observatory GA Sweeps: On Hold

I have reviewed University of Illinois Observatory for GA Sweeps to determine if it still qualifies as a Good Article. In reviewing the article I have found an issue that needs to be addressed, which I have detailed here. Since you are the main contributor of the article, I figured you would be interested in contributing to further improve the article. Please comment there to help the article maintain its GA status. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 06:13, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the award, I appreciate it. I didn't think I was committing too many crimes in my reviews to achieve gangster status! Now I need to strive to reach the crime boss rank. Thanks again. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 17:43, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

NRHP question

I've seen you doing a lot of fine work on the Register in Illinois, and I have a question for you: I know there's some way of finding information in the National Register database on the national website, but I've got no idea how to unlock what's there. I ask because I'm trying to do something like you did for the Sycamore Historic District, only for Alexandria, Virginia; thus far, the state website has provided me with a list of properties but nothing else. Any idea where I can find the forms on the national site? --User:AlbertHerring 21:07, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Ach, thanks - that's what I was afraid of. Virginia does usually do a good job of getting National Register stuff online, but at the moment all I can find for the historic district is a general list of properties and a handful of brief descriptions of some of the newer entries. I guess I'll contact Interior and see what I can get; there has to be documentation of individual entries within a historic district, correct? At least something, however sketchy? --User:AlbertHerring 16:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. Ah, well - perhaps I'll try and get hold of the folks at the city historical society; maybe they'll have documentation such as I'm looking for. --User:AlbertHerring 15:26, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Gratiot's Grove (Wisconsin)

I got the stub for Gratiot's Grove (Wisconsin) done.It took myself a long time. I kept it a stub for future expansion. Also Henry Gratiot built a house the Gratiot House and apparently it is the only surviving building in Gratiot's Grove.Thanks-RFD (talk) 20:54, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

I did it finally!

Don't think I've forgot ya. :) I went on a southerly NRHP photo roadtrip yesterday and made it to Lakeland. And I made it to Florida Southern College, and got various campus shots relating to Child of the Sun. Ohmigod, it is so cool! OK, in fact it was really hot (in the 90s), but you know what I mean. I'll drop you a note once they're uploaded. Which may take a while, since I took over 470 photos. Yes, all yesterday. Possibly a personal best. So much sorting to do. I didn't get as much of Lakeland as I want, so I'll have to revisit in the future. When the weather cools, doncha know. The city has 8 historic districts, which is one of the highest in the state. And they're all butt-up against each other, so making sure I attribute photos to the correct district will take some finessing. Anyhoo, thought I'd letcha know. :) --Ebyabe (talk) 00:57, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
