fyi.....

I assume that you are the Dave ("A People's History of U.S. Sports") Zirin. Plz be advised that a Misplaced Pages editor -- I am unable to ID the said editor at this time -- is STRONGLY implying that your non-Misplaced Pages writing is excessively biased and thus should not be cited in the Marlon Brando article. I, for one, find the implied claim to be immensely irritating and specious. (At least, irritating enough that I'm willing to act as an editor again in this particular case.)

I am not Dave Zirin -- Why the hell do you think I am?Editor437 (talk) 00:24, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
| I beg your pardon.

Sgt dizzle guy

Is there some issue you have with the edits by User:Sgt dizzle guy? Specifically their inclusion of the word "interracial" in the Hillary Scott article? Dismas| 06:52, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

She has a vandalism-only account - all of her edits are suspect, so I just revert them -- see Misplaced Pages:Suspected sock puppets/96.247.37.61 (3rd)Editor437 (talk) 11:49, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
I see. You might want to put that in your edit summaries then. The edit of Hillary Scott isn't disruptive though. Dismas| 00:27, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Please do not delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Talk:Beer style. Such edits are disruptive and appear to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --Mwalimu59 (talk) 03:11, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Egyptian multiplication and division

I see that you have entered an array of questions. Can you be specific? The hoax, if there is one, may be introduced by yourwide array of issues. Put your shot gun away, and stop shooting from the hip.

A July 27-29 conferences in Mainz, Germany is being held to expose the translation issues related to the several of the topics that your 'gut feel' seems to sense (per http://mathforum.org/kb/thread.jspa?threadID=1916972&tstart=0 ), such that:

It should be noted that the conference focuses on translation issues:

"Writings of Early Scholars in the Ancient Near East, Egypt and Greece: Zur Übersetzbarkeit von Wissenschaftssprachen des Altertums Interdisciplinary and international conference, Johannes Gutenberg University, 27-29 July 2009

The historiography of the sciences in antiquity (including Egyptian and Mesopotamian cultures) has changed fundamentally during the past 40 years. Changing methodologies and aims have led to a focus on recognition and reconstruction of ancient scientific concepts, which can differ significantly from ?similar? modern concepts. As a way of bringing these changes to light in a useful way, the conference will focus on the problem of translations.

Translations are directly affected by respective cultural beliefs of the translator. How then can ancient concepts that differ from our modern ones be expressed in modern languages? And how can these differences be understood by a modern reader? Currently, some translations which are likely to mislead a historian of science, a scientist or a mathematician may still be accepted as correct by the philologists of the individual cultures.

The conference aims to explore problems involved in translating ancient scientific texts and to create a methodological framework to improve the quality of future translations. To achieve this goal, we aim to bring together leading representatives and junior researchers with a philological background or a background in history of science (Egyptology, Assyriology, Classics, editors of ancient scientific texts and scholars using them).

After an attempt to determine characteristic features of individual sciences in antiquity, and how they can be distinguished from non-scientific texts, specific examples will be used to enable interdisciplinary and intercultural discussion.

We invite interested participants to join the conference and contribute to the discussions. Please register by 31 May 2009 at wissenschaftssprache@mathematik.uni-mainz.de. The conference fee of 15 ? to compensate for expenses is to be paid in advance (registration).

Location: Senatssaal der Naturw. Fakultät, Johann-Joachim-Becher-Weg 21, 55099 Mainz, 7. Stock, Raum 07-232

Long-term abuse case

I've created Misplaced Pages:Long_term_abuse#User:Newcrewforu. Please contribute anything you have to add. --Killing Vector (talk) 13:31, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

is written like an advertisement (FrontAccounting)

I saw an intertion warning placed on the FrontAccounting page. For me the article was very informative when looking at different Open Source projects for our organization. When examining a project, it is very helpful to first see all the project features before testing. Are there any specific topics that you want to get changed?
