President Manuel Zelaya's attempt to have a constitutional referendum on June 28, 2009, to change the constitution and allow him to be re-elected has provoked a serious political crisis in the country. He has been arrested by his country's army and is being held in an airbase outside Tegucigalpa, and flown to San José, Costa Rica.
