Writing about oneself seemed, well, somewhat boring, but then on reading user pages of other editors, I realized how much more alive Misplaced Pages becomes when the editors talk a little about themselves, and are not two dimensional names on a flat surface, but are real people from all parts of the world who have come together to increase and improve knowledge in the world. That's nice!
So here goes
I have an educational background in the humanities and the visual arts, am an educator and artist, and have interests in archeology, the history of mankind, genetic memory, creativity and whole brain functioning as part of the creative process, physics, some sports (I like to rock climb, and to do some kayaking, mostly white water), and animals, especially rats, (Fancy rats), dogs, and marine mammals.
Civility
Civility, kindness, a sense of humour and proportion in editing seem critical. The most intelligent of my pet rats had a sense of humour, knew how to play with and tease even human beings, seemed to love each other, cared about the ones who were ill, and grieved for the ones who died. I guess we should be able to do as much.
The power of words
One day she met one whose words spun magic around her. The words had some way of leaking through skin and bone, and always this created a sharp sense of shock, but strangely, also of familiarity. She knew not why this happened but indeed it did, and so as might happen one day the words she read pierced to the very center of her heart, and in that instant she came to know who she was, and all that was not her began to peel away, in layers.
