Ottoman Empire
Glad to be a part of your WikiProject. I have already tagged all the sultans of the Ottoman Empire. I will help out when I can. I will mainly contribute by tagging articles, though.Burningview (talk) 22:33, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Keep up the great work
Hi I've recently noticed your excellent work on Hims and I've just checked out your contributions to Palestinian and Syiran related articles and they are excellent. Misplaced Pages needs editors like you for such places to address the problem of uneven bias and to work towards an even coverage of the world. I'm impressed. Keep up the fantastic work on these articles. It really is great to actually see some quality on articles related to these countries rather than the typical tripe or stubs that exists on most of the Asian and African countries. History of Gaza
It will be the first thing I work on when I get back to editing. I'm in the middle of translating a scenario and the deadline is tommorow night, so if it can wait until after tomorrow, that would be great. Impressed by your work and grateful that you think I can be of service as always. Tiamut 09:53, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- As you may have noticed, I made a few edits there and then got sidetracked elsewhere, as a result actually of your edit at Salbit. (Though I'm grateful for the sidetracking since I think a good article is developing as a result.) I will try to return to History of Gaza. Its such a long history that I find it a bit overwhelming at present, but I'll try to pitch in whatever I can when I have a chance to wrap my head around the whole thing. Happy editing. Big problem
I made a typo in a page move and it read Lydda Death Death instead of Lydda Death March. There is a controvery over the title but its appearing as a DYK tonight or tomorrow under that name. So until that passes, I think it should be listed there. I've opened a section to discuss name changes for afterward. Can you help me move it back to Lydda Death March? Because now its just wrong. Tiamut 12:19, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Al Ameer. Actually the only problem is that somehow there is a page entitled Lydda Death Death now. I've blanked it and redirected to Lydda Death March. Lydda Death Death should quite obviously be deleted. I must be groggy from a lack of sleep. If you have time to delete it, that would be good. It's a wholly uncontroversial action, unrelated to the current debate over the title name which is ongoing. Tiamut 15:52, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Ayyubids
Hi, I've been watching, and the page looks good so far. I'd like to know more about what they were doing in Arabia; that area always seems to be neglected in favour of Egypt and Syria. Social history is always a useful addition - what was life like beyond the government? What did the general population do while the Ayyubids were in power? (This is the same sort of thing I've been trying to do with the Kingdom of Jerusalem article, although it's taking forever...) Adam Bishop (talk) 06:17, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Read previous discussion
Please before, reverting again read this previous discussion ] and if the result of you discussion is to remove then we will remove. Two editors (BobaFett85 and Igorb2008) overrulled one on this issue (Fata-Hamas conflict) already and I agree with them. You can not remove edits previously established by other users without discussion and reaching a concensus first just so you can push your own point of view, Misplaced Pages is about neutrality, objectivity and reality. I can understand that you have a problem with this because you are Palestinian but everything has been backed up by references and fits into the category of the War on Terrorism since the US military has provided training and equipment for Fatah and the US government financial backing for Fatah to fight Hamas which is listed by the US as a terrorist organisation. The United States is backing Fatah, WoT is not just about US military against terrorists but also US backed-allies against terrorists, and this fits that category. Over at the article war on terrorism it has been clearly established that this war is regarded as a proxy war between the US and Iran as part of WoT. You said at the discussion for the campaignbox that Fatah nor Hamas considered the other as terrorists, they fought each other for other reasons. There's the thing, the US considers Hamas terrorists and is backing Fatah for just that reason and Hamas thinks of Fatah as too pro-US and is an enemy of Israel and Israel is a US ally. Again, please read the previous discussion. You can not just ignore the US's financial support, you said Who cares, that's not NPOV of you and you should know it since you are an administrator, you said to bring the point to the talk page, you should have discussed it first before with other editors before removing. I support BobaFett85 and Igorb2008 but I am not to go into a heated discussion with you now so if you provide proof that this has nothing to do with WoT than by all means remove it, but my problem is this - that you made the edit without discussing first.188.2.195.153 (talk) 21:10, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Ayyubids
Hey Ameer,
I would like to greatly apologize for how long it took me to respond to your message (combination of school, life, and extreme technical difficulties). I see you have done a great job revamping the Ayyubid article. I would be glad to contribute what I can if you are still looking for some collaboration. I have a term paper due in 2 weeks that will be consuming the majority of my time, but the focus overlaps on the Ayyubids. Also, would you like a "references in popular culture section" since it will be quite easy to find several. Look forward to hearing from you soon EvitoSol (talk) 00:57, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
"Legacy" is a good call. I've actually have access to some rare and excellent images of Ayyubid Mosques in Egypt as well as commentary on them which could fit in that general realm (actually been looking forward to an opportunity to use them). I'll see what digging I can do and hopefully will be ready for some solid composition in the following month. The Ayyubids are quite and extensive clan, but I have confidence in our abilities to catalog them. Good luck on that paperEvitoSol (talk) 03:48, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Re:Ayyubid Map
Marhaba Ameer, I will attempt to recreate the map using SVG editor. I had so much fun with the maps of Palestine :) --Fjmustak (talk) 02:20, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- How's this for a start? It still needs labels, a legend, and maybe some cropping to zoom in on the area of influence. Also, perhaps we can change the colors, or remove some of the surrounding kingdoms (or add some), etc.... It'll be much easier now that I have this part ready. Thoughts? --Fjmustak (talk) 06:08, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- It is now very easy to modify the map. I guess the reason Egypt is in yellow is to show the Fatimid state before Saladin's futuhat (conquests), the green arrows (I didn't copy those) show the direction of these futuhat. I also didn't add the cities/kingdoms to the map. Let me know what you want to keep and what you want to remove.
Here's the legend:
- Yellow: Fatimids (pre Saladin)
- Orange: Ayyubids
- Pink: Crusaders (Palestine coast, Tripoli, Antioch, Cyprus, and Cilicia)
- Hot Pink: Ismaili areas
- Olive: Artukid (Mardin)
- Light Green: Atabeg (Mosul)
- Dark Gray: Abbasids
- Light Gray: Khwarezm
- Light Pink: Danishmend
- Green: Seljuks
- Magenta: Byzantines
--Fjmustak (talk) 00:22, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- I haven't forgotten about this. Just got really busy. I've added the Almohads, and removed the Fatimids. But have yet to
create the legend and toadd the cities. If you have any more ideas for the map, please let me know. --Fjmustak (talk) 05:19, 22 May 2009 (UTC)- No worries man. Clarification
Hi, perhaps you can help me with this. This source that I am using to write an article on Hind al-Husseini says, "By 1995, Dar Al-Tifl had some 300 orphans. However, that number would halve following closure in the Gaza Strip, to where the orphans from there had to return, and increasingly within the West Bank." By closure means, the articles means that the residents Gaza Strip were closed off/not able to get in to Jerusalem, right? I am not well-versed in this subject, hope you can help me here. -Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 04:33, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply! Okay I will go with my initial thought. I started this article on Saturday as a spur of the moment thing, was unplanned and I didn't even know who Hind was until I read an article that day. The story is too inspirational. --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 05:04, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

May I ask, please, that you leave the references alone. This is simply because I know from experience this is a job best left to one editor. We know they need fixed but it's best left to one editor, I think (and it's not me!).

Kafr Saba
Thanks for the note. Presently, my priority is adding stuff from the Petersen-book to different articles when I´m on WP...I have the book on loan from an out-of-town library to early next month, so I have to use the time now. And yes: Petersen has *a lot* about Kafr Saba. Tell you what; why don´t you move it into main-space (I perfectly agree with you that it is a very important site!) ...then I will add Petersen-stuff, and anything else, when I can ( ...I´m throwing the ball back to you, here!! ;-) ) Kafr Saba is definitely DYK-material..please do start it. Also; I´m not certain about how much I will be around WP in the future...so don´t hesitate to start articles on *any* of the subjects I have made notes about on User:Huldra/Sources. I will be delighted if you do! Besides the 1948-villages, there are several buildings/bridges etc which seriously merit their own articles. E.g.take a look at Khirbet Al-Minya.. (I have collected material under User:Huldra/Sources#future_article:_Al-Tabigha.2C_District_of_Tiberias). Take care, cheers, Huldra (talk) 21:01, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- ok, fine, I´ll add the Petersen-stuff when you have it up and going. (And I still don´t know how to nominate any article for DYK, so I will definitely leave that for you..) All the 1948-villages I have collected notes on have information about them in addition to Khalidi and Morris (the only exception is Zayta, which I by mistake thought was mentioned in Stillman). The Al-Majdal, Tiberias is also an interesting place, (has a large commonscat!) ..please do feel free to start any of them! And I have looked (slightly!) at your civil war article. The Qays-Yamani conflict looks like a huge subject, if were to cover it comprehensively.... Regards, Huldra (talk) 23:17, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- I have been a bit delayed, but now I have been adding to Kafr Saba. Is it too late to nominate it for DYk? I have no idea as to how to do it, so I leave that to you...Cheers, Huldra (talk)
- I´m rather unaccustumed to making "hooks"..but what about something like "Did you know ..that the shrine at Kafr Saba, for a millenium sacred only to Muslims, have after 1948 become holy to the Jews?" Anyway, I´m logging out now (it´s dead late!) -hope to be back later today..we should be adding more stuff about what happened in 1948 (Khalidi has a bit about it) Cheers, Huldra (talk)
- Oh, btw, could you pls take a look at the template for the 1948 villagers? Now is seems a bit messy; perhaps if we removed the pictures, -and changed the background color so that it resembles the green info-box-color? Huldra (talk)
- Ah well, never mind..I never counted my DYKs, so to speak ;-P ..but the place *is* facinating, and deserves more attention...much like Nabi Rubin, ..or Al-Nabi Yusha' (have you looked at the pictures on the Pal.Rem-site for that place? ..facinating!) Oh, and thanks for fixing the template...it lookes a bit better now, with a more co-ordinated coulor-scheme, me thinks..Cheers, Huldra (talk)
- I have been a bit delayed, but now I have been adding to Kafr Saba. Is it too late to nominate it for DYk? I have no idea as to how to do it, so I leave that to you...Cheers, Huldra (talk)
Jericho IV destruction date
The article currently gives the date of Jericho's destruction as 1200bc. This conflicts with every claimed date I had previously seen. I had previously tried to modify it, borrowing a source from the article "battle of Jericho." Two other sources for that article also giving a date around 1550 bc if you prefer those. The source given for the 1200bc date does not support the claim that Jericho IV was destroyed in 1200bc (I searched the document for all mentions of the date 1200bc, aside from a tick mark on the graph there was only one, and Jericho was not mentioned in the vicinity.)
Some articles seem to indicate there may have been a minor campsite after the 1550bc destruction of the city, but this article from the external links for Jericho makes it clear that it is the major settlement destroyed in 1550bc that is referred to as Jericho IV: http://www.biblicalchronologist.org/answers/bryantwood.php
Anyway, if this seems convincing, please revert to the edited version and cite whichever source seems best to you. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.140.226.228 (talk) 05:00, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Hutteroth data
Hi, I am very stressed for time so I'll just give you the data here; feel free to use it as you wish. The population was not recorded person by person. There are are counts of: heads of households, bachelors, religious personages (such as Imams and Rabbis, not Christian priests apparently) and disabled people. The last two categories were present because they had different tax obligations. The formula Hutteroth uses to guess the total population is to multiply the total of heads of households and bachelors by 5.
Gaza (page 52): Muslims: (heads 456, bachelors 115, religious 59, disabled 19), Christians: (294 heads, 7 bachelors), Jews:(73 heads), Samaritans:(8 heads), Jundiyan:(141 heads). "Jundiyan" was a category of former soldier with a special tax status; they could be added to Muslims). Hutteroth guesses the total as 6000 (3rd largest in Palestine after Safad and Quds).
Bayt Lahm (page 121): Muslims: 9 heads; Christians: 278 heads. Very close nearby was Bayt Jala: Muslims: 8 heads; Christians: 239 heads.
Dayr Gassana (page 120): Muslims: 76 heads Bayt Rima (page 121): Muslims: 54 heads; Christians: 14 heads. Very close nearby was Kafr Tut (page 115): Muslims: 10 heads.

Images in templates
Hi, I saw you removed the images from the villages template because they were messing up the formatting. Can you tell me how it was messed up? The reason I ask is that I was just about to add images to another template, so it would be good to know what's going wrong. When I look at the version with images, I just see five small images along the top, but otherwise no change. SlimVirgin 21:20, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping me up to date with the project. I'm sorry Jifna didn't make it into FA... It will one day. Good luck with the Darwaza article! I wish I could be of more help, but real life has gotten hectic as of late. In any case, please let me know if there's anything I can do (such as translation). I hope to be able to get more active again. Salam. --Fjmustak (talk) 06:56, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Arabic script
Hi Ameer, I've added the Arabic scripts to the articles you sent. I'm also working adding a bit of info on Nabeel Kassis. He's currently the president of Birzeit University. (Maybe that should even go in the lead, as it is his present position as opposed to a politician). Salam. --Fjmustak (talk) 08:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Izzat Darwaza
Hi, I am reviewing Izzat Darwaza for GA and have left some initial comments at Talk:Izzat Darwaza/GA1. In general, I think it is a fine article, well written, about an interesting man. Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 15:44, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Asmahan
Dear Al Ameer son, you have edited Asmahan multiple times and it seems that you have the relevant resources to cite multiple facts. Could u maybe guide us on how to obtain such sources like page 23 in Asmahan's secrets which can't be viewed via preview in google. Many more sentences need referencing and your help is urgently needed.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 22:48, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I meant pages 26-27. What did her father fear? Revenge for what? What did he do to fear revenge? I added a clarification note please replace it with better info.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 22:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
"Asmahans parents had separated in her early childhood." Is it seperated or divorced? And were they divorced/seperated because the mother stayed in Egypt? Did her father work for Committee of Union and Progress? How long and is this a reason why he fled fearing revenge? The word revenge isn't explained. Please again replace the clarification templates with the proper explanation, possibly quoting.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 23:29, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Muhammad Abu-Nabbut
Thanks for starting the article! I will add what I can from my sources. Would you care to start an article about the Abu Nabut Trough ? There is info at archnet, and a whole commons-cat, for starters... Cheers, Huldra (talk) 00:58, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, how is the Abu Nabut Trough -article comming along? ;) No hurry, but take a look at the Ruba Kana`an (2001) -ref. I added. Ms. Kana`an did her phD (in Oxford) on the wafq of Abu-Nabbut -I find it most readable in the downloadable .pdf-file -format, but you can also read it (sort of) online in .html-format. Lots and lots of interesting info there. And both Mahmoudiya Mosque and Abu-Nabbut is DYK-stuff, isn´t it?
- But perhaps we could cut down a bit in the Vilney-myth sections, and add facts about his waqfs from Kana`an?
- On another note; I see you (and Naab.) are removing lots of the gazaweb-pages. Though most are just copies from PalRem; there *are* also several links which has pictures of Palestinian costumes which I have *not* seen anywhere else. So I really would like to keep those... (you know me and Palestinian costumes;-) )...And I don´t see any harm in having the links on specific villages? Cheers, Huldra (talk)
- I don´t think we should cut out Vilney completely....the direct link is fun (and should stay in, IMO). Just slim it down? And expand with the Kana`an (2001) ref instead.... I am sure we both agree that Kana`an is vastly more important here...Presently the article doesn´t even mention Abu Nabbuts wafq.
- As for the gazaweb: the first I noticed was this Masmiyyeh (though unfortunately it does not say if it was from the "large" or "small" Gaza-village. However, neither PalRem-article have the picture. The Burayr dresses (like ) seem to have come from PalRem, although I did not know they were there...as they are quite "hidden" away, unlike at gazanet, where its the first thing you see: Burayr
- I guess we disagree about ext. links, then. I would love as many (dedicated) links as possible!! But then I am definitely an inclusionist ....(except for BLP). I find the links for 1948-villages from Dr. Moslih Kanaaneh absolutely great...and I have added them wherever I can...
- On another note: did you know that le Strange (1890) "Palestine under the Moslems" is now on the net, downloadeble! Which is wonderful news, IMO! I´ve added and direct link under Ramle..we can do that everywhere now. Cheers, Huldra (talk) 00:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Eeeeeek: I´m hopeless at finding hooks....I would just suggest something totally boring, like "DYK that Sabil Abu Nabbut is a nearly 200 year old Ottoman fountain that still exists in Jaffa?"
- Anyway, I´m glad you started the article, and I´m really trying to tempt you (or Tiamut) to start, say, the article on Khirbet Al-Minya, (the Umayyad Palace, District of Tiberias. See User:Huldra/Sources) ...there is a LOT about it on the net...and a LOT in Petersen....if either of you guys start the article with what is on the net (we even have a picture over at commons!)...then I will add the Petersen-stuff..Cheers, Huldra (talk)

Chronicle of a Disappearance
Sorry, but I must confess I have not seen that film. I recall it was discussed, in some depth, in both the books on Palestinian films, (in Gertz/Khleifi "Palestinian cinema", see p 171, ff, and in the Dabashi-book.) Unfortunately, I do not have either of those books with me now (they were on loan from out-of-town-libraries) So I think I will pass this, for the moment...
On another note; I have thought of doing some serious expansion of Al-Nabi Yusha'; there is a LOT about the place in Petersen (2002). (And there are great pictures over at PalRem...) What I wondered is; I have scanned the pictures of the stuctures in the Petersen -book..can I upload them, under "fair use" (or whatever) to en.wikipedia? I tried to upload them to commons, but they were instantly deleted, and so I have now learned that you cannot have "fair use" there. The pictures are basically drawings of the structures by Petersen; extremely useful. Oh, and it is the same situation for a picture of Khirbat Jiddin. Khirbat Jiddin actually has loads of pictures (taken "in situ")...but the drawing, with overview, of the place would add greatly to the information, IMO. Anf *if* I can use them on en.wikipedia, I would need some instructions as to how to upload them here...as I have never done that, Cheers, from a technically challeged , Huldra (talk) 22:40, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Heyo
Heyo Al Ameer son,
You're more than invited to make conversation on the Land Day balance discussions but I do have to disagree with your assessment on Misplaced Pages articles' and neutrality/relevance in background. Remember that this is not an article in Al-Ahram (like the one currently in use on the article as a reference) that focuses only on the Palestinian grievances but rather an encyclopedia which is supposed to give all major perspectives into historical accounts (such as reasoning for land allocation). Anyways, I'd be happy to continue the article related discussions on the said article's talk page.
p.s. I'd appreciate it if you could talk with Nableezy into not following my edits and reverting them regardless of the inner content. We seem to clash once too many recently and its always a problem when an editor you tend to disagree with jumps on a page he never touched before just so he can revert you (repeatedly).
p.p.s. You think Darwish meant Hamas as well when he said Gaza will prevail (the above quote)? I sure hope so. Palestinians deserve better leadership... Israel could use better leadership as well :)
Warm regards, Jaakobou 04:36, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Re DYK
I have left a message on the page of the article, because the DYK "fact" doesn't make sense to me as an architectural historian. It implies that the columns must have been cut up into square pieces (with great waste resulting) in order to use them as "building material". What exactly did your source write? I am certain that it must have been worded rather differently to the way it is worded in the article? Amandajm (talk) 13:49, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- As I suspected, it was worded quite differently in the original source. The introduction of the words "building materials" and "acquired from" put an entirely different meaning on a fairly straightforward sentence. The original authors obviously did not mean to imply that the entire building was constructed of Roman columns. They meant that the Roman columns (which are precious in themselves, because they are hard to make well) are a feature of the building. I have fixed it. Amandajm (talk) 07:12, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ameer. I noticed for a recent DYK submission, you credited yourself both as the creator of the article and its nominator. Please note that you can only do one or the other. Basically, one only nominates other people's articles, not one's own (although you can certainly submit your own articles). Otherwise everyone would get two DYK awards for every article they created. (Of course: totaly rebuild after Assad razed the place...but you really couldn´t see that....I learned that later .....from reading "Pity the nation"). - Oh; and while I´m at it: if anyone could start an article on the Hammam Yalbougha an-Nasry in Aleppo..it would be great. It is located just in front of the enterance to the Citadel, it is from 1491, last restored in 1985 (I´m quoting from my "Lonely Planet"-book from 2000.) Now, there might be finer hammams in Syria, (like Hammam Nur ad-Din in Damascus)...but this is, AFAIK, the finest, not only in Syria..but in the whole Middle East..which is open to women! Four days a week...and yes....I have pictures... (I met some Japanese women there; apparently Japanese women studying/working all over the Middle East meet in Aleppo because of this hammam!) It was an absolutely great place, Cheers, Huldra (talk) 22:03, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oh and btw Huldra, I think it is because middle eastern Hammams are very similar to the traditional Japanese Onsens. Onsens are one of the most popular spa spots in Japan, and I've met many who've been in the middle east just to try them. Yazan (talk) 04:14, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

- great work at the Azm Palace (Hama) (nice place, eh?)
- just a hint; when you wikilink le Strange, 1890, why don´t´you link to the archive-version? I, at least, cannot read the google-version you link to at the Hama-page. If you link as I have done at the Jubb Yusuf, you can also link to the individual pages.
- Lajjun: I found a reference to a picture of Lajjun in Petersen, 2002, p.201..made by Wilson in the 1870s. Following the link backward from this link ...I found this. Petersen discuss both the bridge and khan. If you upload the picture; I´ll add the text.
- Template talk:Did you know: this is still messed up; Gatoclass has a message for you at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on July 12. I don´t think Muhammad Abu-Nabbut has been a DYK yet!! (Nothing on the talk-page..)

Arabic text
I saw your use of <big></big> on Tawfiq Canaan. I'd also seen this technique used on one or two other bio articles, which in fact gave me the idea of using a hidden comment to get round the problems with the wiki input editor. I rejected <big></big> for the following reasons:
- as a general principle, it is better to separate formatting from other matters such as content, or in this case, an editing trick
- there are probably better solutions than <big></big> - maybe a change in the default font, maybe a change in the mediawiki software, maybe a change to the {{lang}} templates (see below)
- in any event, the right solution needs discussion and consensus
Yes, I do find the default arabic script too small to read, and I suspect several other editors do too. My solution is to use my monobook.css file to increase the font size. Works fine as long as the text is wrapped in one of the {{lang}} templates. This also has the advantage that the font size can be tailored to the user's requirements (my eyesight is not perfect, and neither is my knowledge of the language).
The disadvantage is that this solution is not available to IP editors or casual readers of Misplaced Pages (the vast majority). If the default font was altered to suit the latter group, I could adjust my .css file and everyone would be happy. Another possibility (which could be done in addition to changing the font for unregistered users) might be to add something to the "Gadgets" page under user preferences to make it easier for registered users to adjust their default font sizes for foreign-language scripts/alphabets/abjads.
Unfortunately, <big></big> makes the script ridiculously large. It looks ghastly under my setup. But more importantly, it will create more work when a proper solution is found.
--NSH001 (talk) 19:59, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- We (Badaghani, Ynhockey, and myself) were having a discussion about enlarging the default Arabic script a while back, but nothing happened. Instead we decided to use "big" setup. If you could change the default that would be great, because the current is too small to read. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, unfortunately that's beyond both my knowledge and authority. ISTR there's a global .css file somewhere, which you as an administrator might be able to edit, and might (or might not) go some way to resolving the problem. I'd need to do some research first, and in any case I think such a change would require discussion and consensus somewhere (not sure where, though?).
- P.S. I've bolded his name in the lead, which is fully compliant with the MOS, and should look better, I think. --NSH001 (talk) 20:34, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll see what I could do (probably little though), but although I have no real opposition to bolding, it has faced opposition in the past which was one of the reasons we started using the "big" setup. We should have a discussion somewhere (perhaps WP:ARAB or at WP:MoS) to find a solution. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I think bolding of the article title in the lead is perfectly OK, as it's a requirement of the MOS anyway. I don't think it would be a good idea to bold text everywhere else in an article. --NSH001 (talk) 20:47, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Fine by me, but I still think we should talk about the whole Arabic script matter in a broader platform of discussion sometime soon. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I discussed this at http://commons.wikimedia.org/Template_talk:Information#Enlarge_the_arabic_font before. Slomox would be able to change it, however we need more consensus...--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 20:53, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Whenever you're not busy (and I know you are with Nasser, Asmahan, and the Free Officers, among others) could you reactivate the discussion. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:58, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey
I need help from an admin, you have maybe been following the dispute at the Asmahan article, user Arab Cowboy went against the mediation process at the talkpage and started editing the article freely, yesterday, Diaa helped me bring back a lot of texts that was deleted, and told AC to use the mediation process at the talkpage: "Do the same trick with suggestions again and I'll reply to you first this time" right after, he started editing freely again, adding texts that has not been through the talkpage, adding citation quotes on areas that are sourced and changing sentences I had been permitted to ad going through the mediation process at the talkpage, so they are now almost exactly the same as the book, which I believe is not permitted. Diaa has now left as mediator. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 07:59, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I can't blame him for leaving. I have been keeping up with the discussion somewhat, but then it turned into too much commotion so I moved on. However, now I'm seriously thinking about protecting the article (meaning putting on a lock) for maybe a day or two and then we could discuss exactly what changes need to be implemented. I will no longer tolerate the war between you and Arab Cowboy because I see it as extremely disruptive. I'm not pointing the finger at you or him, but at both of you. I will go to the article's talk page and lay this plan out. --Al Ameer son (talk) 18:19, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Don't forget to add the lock icon on the article....--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 20:13, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oops. Just added it. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

GA Review
Hi Ameer, can I ask you for a small favor. I've just reviewed my first GAN (there's a terrible backlog on that page), and was wondering if you could just take a quick skim through the review to make sure I'm being fair to the people. It's an interesting subject anyway, Democratic Left Movement (Lebanon). (if you have the time, ofcourse). Thanks. Yazan (talk) 05:06, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Ameer. Notes have been taken care of. On another less important thing, would this vote interest you in any way? Yazan (talk) 06:03, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- I would certainly want to work on Damascus when you're done. I tried to plunge in but it's a dreadful task, there are so many sources, and such a huge history, that I have no idea how and where to start. I'd rather wait for you to finish up with Nasser, and then see how we can go about working on Damascus from there. Cheers! Yazan (talk) 07:30, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Editing Asmahan
Um... may I ask why you're editing the Asmahan article after you protected it? After I got over the shock that you're an admin (I haven't been editing Misplaced Pages in ages, so I completely missed this development), I was quite surprised to see you were editing an article that is protected, let alone protected by you. Granted, neither of the parties seems to be complaining about it, but it does look a bit odd and unnecessary (considering how short the protection is). It also seems to suggest that that's standard fare for a protected article -- the protecting admin (or any admin) updates content on-demand. -- tariqabjotu 11:13, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Greetings Tariq! I must admit even though I'm an admin, I'm still a little new at using the functions and didn't know that we were not allowed to edit articles we protected. The reason I did it is because for weeks now two users have been edit warring (you could look at the talk page) and long-term mediation has failed. Instead of temporarily blocking the users (which I though of doing but then changed my mind), I decided to protect the article and let them list what they want done on the talk page. After discussing their demands, I would add them to the article in an NPOV manner. The only reason I resorted to protection is because of the non-stop warring that was happening and each side complaining about the other user reverting his edits. The block should expire a day from now and until then I have to address Supreme Deliciousness's concerns on the talk page (took care of Arab Cowboy's I think). I know the whole thing seems unorthodox and I might not be explaining the situation correctly, but I would greatly appreciate it if you allow the block to continue until its expiration date. Welcome back and thanks! --Al Ameer son (talk) 18:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- I had no intention of unprotecting the page. I'd just like to think it would have been possible for what you did (i.e. translating their positions into good edits) to be done while the article is not protected (but that the parties would have agreed to let you do the editing). Or to have hashed everything together on the talk page, rather than in the article, while the protection was in place. It was especially strange to me because -- now maybe I'm reading this wrong -- it seemed you addressed Arab Cowboy's edits first (because he was the first to comment), rather then let them both comment before taking a stab at a solution. Hence, why I said it looked like you were editing on-demand. But, anyway: yes, it did work, and I suppose that's all that matters; it just... as I said... looked odd. -- tariqabjotu 13:37, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Requested move
Ameer, is it possible to move Firas Al Khatib to Firas al-Khatib per MoS? Yazan (talk) 21:49, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

- Ameer, I've been following the ridiculous discussion on Asmahan for a while, and couldn't but commend you on your cool-headedness, I would've snapped a long time ago, way before diaa of annoyng did! On another note, can we move Prince Akram Shammaa to just Akram Shamaa, if Zengi doesn't get a title in his article, this one surely shouldn't. I'm not even sure of the whole notability of this article, but i'm in no mood to get into a fight over it. Thanks again! Yazan (talk) 03:25, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Al Ameer: Thank you for your help on the Asmahan article and your cool head through the process. We need to do the same now with Farid al-Atrash article. Are you ready? --Arab Cowboy (talk) 19:41, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hold on, there are some other smaller problems in other articles that have to be addressed first, Ameer, I have made a new post at the talkpage: http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Talk%3AAsmahan&diff=305510925&oldid=305487252 --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:04, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Ameer please, take a look at this. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:16, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

- Thats because you chased him away, Ameer, "Syrian homeland" is sourced in the Shreff books, and was not allowed, therefor "adopted country" can not be allowed, if it is, then Syrian homeland must also be used. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:39, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Ameer: Please see the most recent edits on Asmahan. I have let go of a LOT of changes... The use of "homeland" was unapproved by Diaa, yet I let it pass just to end this matter. However, SD reverted two minor modifications I made for grammar and historical accuracy. I do not want to drag this back to the drawing board, but I do find those edits objectionable. --Arab Cowboy (talk) 09:21, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- The use of "adopted country" was not approved by Diaa either, if that stays, then "homeland" which is sourced is also staying.--Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 10:51, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- SD, please post a link to where Diaa disapproved the use of "adopted country". --Arab Cowboy (talk) 10:55, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Articles on Palestinian Arab villages
Hi Al Ameer son! I realize that you have better things to do, and am sure you already know that there are quite a few articles on Palestinian Arab villages missing. I recently got an article (Operation Pleshet) promoted to GA which had the following red links to villages: Aqir, Julis, Gaza, al-Maghar and Zarnuqa. If you ever get back to writing articles about villages, please consider prioritizing these :) Cheers, Ynhockey 00:45, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! I did not expect such a quick response, and will dare ask for something more, whenever you have time: There is an Egyptian books (in Arabic) called Harb Filastin, 1948 by Ibrahim Shakib. I could not find it anywhere so far, and asked a user who lives in Egypt to look, if he could. However, it is also possible that this can be found in a US library. Whenever you're at a library, a quick look would be appreciated! If you can find it, please photocopy something related to Operation Pleshet :) I think it's on page 223. Thanks again! —Ynhockey 01:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Need Help!
I know you are busy, but please do not abandon the mediation. Arab Cowboy is changing sentences so they go against completely what the sources is saying: This is straight from Asmahans secretes page 13: "The other side of her patriotism was to her adopted country, Egypt. That loyalty is hard to measure, since she and other singers were dependent upon the Egyptian elites, as were the recording studios. They were required to sing songs of praise for the king and his line and other songs with republican themes." http://www.utexas.edu/utpress/excerpts/exzuhasp.html
Arab Cowboy changed this sentence to "The dependence on Egyptian elites led Asmahan and other singers to sing songs of praise for the king and his line."
And please also take a look at the "Objection" section at the talkpage. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 10:38, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Your poor attempt at rephrasing it as "The dependence on Egyptian elites led to Asmahan and other singers being required to sing praising songs for the king and the republic." is both grammatically and historically wrong. --Arab Cowboy (talk) 10:51, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Latakia GA Review
Marhaba Ameer Pasha, Is there any way to expedite the review of Latakia? I know it usually takes time, but there's a huge backlog there, and I'm afraid it's going to be a long, long wait. On another note, I will be traveling in week for almost 3 weeks, so please keep an eye on it to see if it's being reviewed! Thanks for all your help, and I'm looking forward to working on Damascus. I couldn't find Ross Burns' book anywhere here, so I'll order it from Amazon, which will take quite a bit of time, but I suspect Nasser will do too, so no rush! Salam, Yazan (talk) 17:45, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Looking forward to working with you. BYT (talk) 21:34, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Invitation for help
Hello Al Ameerson, Its been awhile. Anyways I was wondering since you seem very knowledgeable with islamic military history that you could help me with an article I'm vastly seeking to improve. The article is Battle of the Nobles, and I think it has great potential! I found it just out of the blue and did a web search, got great sources on it. I listed them on the article talk page. By the way it was only had two sentences of content when I found it. Also, since I just joined Military history project I want help in contributing a great article Ive been working on for possible GA A-class status someday. Would love it if you could help me out some. need admin help..
Hi, the -48-village of Abu al-Fadl in the Ramleh district is now "located" at Abu al-Fadl (village). It really (to keep in line with, say Suba, Jerusalem) should be called Abu al-Fadl, Ramla. However, unfortunately, I made Abu al-Fadl, Ramla a redir. Soooo; could you please delete Abu al-Fadl, Ramla ...so we could move Abu al-Fadl (village) to that "location"? Cheers, Huldra (talk)

question
Is this copyright infringement? I tried to change a couple words so they wouldn't be exactly as the sources but Arab Cowboy changed them back: http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Asmahan&diff=306843979&oldid=306842681
"The Allies reneged on their promises for Syrian independence and Asmahan, disgruntled, shifted allegiance to the Nazis. Asmahan boarded a train to Ankara, where she wanted to meet Hitler's ambassador to Turkey and master of Nazi espionage in the Middle East. British officials at the Turkish border refused to let her pass, and she was deported to Beirut."
This is what the source say: "The Free French reneged on their promise of independence and a disgruntled Asmahan shifted her allegiance to the Nazis in revenge. She boarded a train and headed to Ankara, where she wanted to meet Franz von Papen, Hitler's ambassador to Turkey and master of Nazi espionage in the Middle East. British officials at the border refused to let her pass, and she was deported to Beirut" http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/JI20Ak04.html
"nonexistent" was changed to "do not exist in sources on her life or British documents on that period" while the source say: "but there is no evidence in any of the sources on her life, or the British documents on the period" http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/JI20Ak04.html
And also he added the comment from the author "(although she was in reality a third cousin, twice removed)" in the middle of a quote.--Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 20:07, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
