Susan Hutchison is the executive director of the Charles Simonyi Fund for the Arts and Sciences and is currently running for King County Executive in the state of Washington. Hutchison is also a former news anchor for KIRO-TV in Seattle.
Early life and education
Susan Hutchison graduated from Annandale High School in Annandale, Virginia in 1972 and continued her education at University of Florida where she graduated in 1976 with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Career
Hutchison is best known as a TV news anchor, serving the Seattle market as a evening broadcaster for 25 years. For much of her time at KIRO-TV (CBS), she co-anchored one of the top three newscasts in Seattle.
She is currently the Executive Director of the Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences which helps fund organizations such as the Seattle Symphony, the Seattle Public Library, and the Seattle Art Museum. Susan currently volunteers on the boards of the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum, Seattle Symphony Orchestra as Chair, Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. She has been a spokesperson for American Leprosy Mission, Northwest Medical Teams, Job Corps, and March of Dimes, and is a frequent emcee for charitable auctions and fundraising dinners.
Personal
Susan has been married 33 years to her high school sweetheart, Andy, a former Marine Corps Colonel and they reside in Seattle with their two teenage sons who have been educated in public schools. They are active members of Seattle's University Presbyterian Church. She enjoys sculling on Lake Washington, skiing, and travel. She is an art enthusiast and painter.
