Lucas Johnson is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Don Gilet. He made his first on-screen appearance on 3 April 2008.

Lucas is the father of Chelsea Fox, who walked out on her and her mother Denise when Chelsea was a baby. He is described as "attractive, charismatic, strong and forthright" and "just a dodgy geezer with a murky past."

Storylines

Lucas first appeared out of Walford on 3 April 2008 when his estranged daughter Chelsea decided to track him down and make contact, with the help of her half-sister Libby and work colleague Clare Bates. Lucas was a preacher and once his sermon was finished, he stopped Chelsea as she was leaving. He asked if she was in trouble which she denied. He was surprised when she questioned him about his family relationships but as for his past, he admitted that everyone knew about that and when a religious friend of his died, he had decided to turn his life around. He was stunned when Chelsea revealed herself to be his estranged daughter but Chelsea ran off before he could say a word.

Two months later, Patrick Trueman, Chelsea's surrogate grandfather made contact with Lucas and invited him to Chelsea's 22nd birthday party, intending to surprise her. It didn't work out but after persuasion from Patrick, Chelsea agreed to talk to Lucas. Lucas explained that he was only seventeen when Denise gave birth. Neither of them could cope with a baby because they were too young. Lucas had run away and become involved with drugs. He managed eventually to overcome his drug habit and start a clean slate but had not made contact with Chelsea for fear of destroying her life.

After talking to Patrick, Chelsea reluctantly agreeed to give Lucas a chance and allowed him to take her out for a birthday meal at nine. Lucas had been waiting and was on the point of giving up when Chelsea emerged, apologising for the delay and saying she was doing her hair. He thanked her for giving him a chance but she was less than happy when he introduced her to his son and her half brother, Jordan who is 12. Lucas turned up at the shop to apologise for the disastrous night out but Patrick and Yolande insisted he stay to dinner. He tried to explain to Chelsea that Jordan's mum abandoned Jordan so Jordan needed him but it fell on deaf ears. After an argument, he left.

Lucas was later called over for help by Patrick who had discovered Chelsea's drug habit. Libby was glad to see him and told him Chelsea had never done anything like that before. Lucas assured her that he could help but was shocked when Patrick came in saying that Chelsea had escaped from the room Patrick had locked her in via the window.

Lucas asked everyone if they had seen Chelsea but all denied it. Finally Mickey Miller mentioned she hung around with Bradley Branning's work mate Piers. Lucas went to the R & R nightclub and rescued her from a gang of men who had surrounded her, after punching Piers. He coaxed her to tell him what drug she had taken but before she could do so, Denise stepped out of a cab. Denise was furious to see Lucas and told him to keep away. Eventually she calmed down and they had a conversation in the launderette.

He told her he was now a pastor who ran community groups to help people. Denise was stunned when Lucas revealed that Chelsea was on drugs. He gave her his card with his telephone number in case she ever needed to contact him and then left.

Lucas later announced that he had put down a deposit on the vacated 43a Albert Square, in order for him and Jordan to be closer to Chelsea, much to the chagrin of Denise.

Since moving into the Square, Lucas encouraged local children Ben Mitchell and Jay Brown to join in activities at the local community centre over the summer holidays. He also provided a sympathetic ear to Dawn Swann and Chelsea, in a time of need.

On 24 September , Lucas was approached by Bianca Jackson and her partner Tony King about Tony getting a job at the community centre. The following day, Lucas rescued Denise from a failed date with a considerably younger man and offered to walk her home.

On 28 November, Lucas and Denise shared a date at the club and after walking home, Denise invited Lucas to come in but Lucas stated he wasn't ready to have sex again until he was married.

On 11 December 2008, Lucas was confronted by a group of angry parents, fronted by Ian Beale, Phil Mitchell and Max Branning, after Tony's affair with Whitney Dean was revealed. He was blamed for letting someone like Tony work with children. Later on, Lucas was attacked by two unknown members of the public, however, he was able to fight them off and it was reported both were hospitalised.

On 12 December 2008, Lucas packed his bags and left Walford, leaving Denise unknown as to his whereabouts.

Lucas returned in the New Year and shocked Denise with a marriage proposal, however she turned him down still cut up over late husband Kevin so Lucas decided to leave Walford for good with Jordan for a new life in Leeds.

On 13 January 2009 Denise proposed to a stunned Lucas as he and Jordan boarded the train to Leeds. However Jordan revealed to Denise that he was married to his mother ending with the Enders signature drum.

However they have since reunited after he explained to Denise that he and his wife, Trina have not been separable for years, as he could not forgive her for abandoning Jordan. Denise also helped him to find a job, although he managed to find employment at Beale's Plaice, only by Ian. He was temporarily sacked when Denise mocked Ian, which Jane overheard; although a week later he got his job back being promoted as a manager by Ian.

In late February, his wife Trina surprised him with a shock visit. She was determined in the hope of saving their marriage, however Lucas berated her to leave and told her that their marriage was over, but she had already told Patrick that Lucas had spent Christmas with her and slept together. This made Patrick furious and he later threatened Lucas that if he doesn't come clean to Denise about the fling then he will. But things weren't as simple as Patrick thought as Lucas had discovered that he had been arrested in the late 1950s for assaulting a minor during a race riot, prompting them both to blackmail each other.

When he found drugs in Chelsea's bag, he assaulted her boyfriend Ellis who gave her the drugs.

However, Trina returned when Denise was spying on him. Trina told Denise about their Christmas fling, but he reacted badly; lying to Denise about what happened. He told her about Trina giving birth to Jordan, that he was a premature baby born with heroine inside his system. The worst part was Trina walking away from her newborn son, couldn't face the fact of what she had done to him. Since then, Trina and Denise had both been fighting for Lucas' love, although he would always rather choose Denise than Trina. However, despite his rejections; Trina never gave up to win him back and wanted him and Denise to be further apart, attempting to ruin their relationship several times. Despite all of her plans that foiled, she decided to finally give Lucas a divorce. But he wasn't prepared to hear that she is planning to relocate outside of Walford with Jordan, although she wants him to look after Jordan until she finds a place to live.

On Jordan's birthday, Trina shows up to give him a phone, to which she destroys later. Lucas throws her out, and asked if she was still on drugs, but Trina walked off. They later slept together again, and they confront each other at the allotments. Trina attempts to seduce Lucas, but he pushes her back, unintentionally impaling her neck on a rake. He leaves Trina to bleed to death.
