I see that you have semi-protected or protected a lot of articles. I don't know the history behind this Bambifan101 sockpuppet master so I won't tell you what to do, but I'm wondering, is it really necessary to FULLY protect some of those articles until December 2009? He's been at this for over a year, using IP and named socked including ranges no one will range block because of collateral damage. 120+ confirmed socks, and another 109 highly likely just not tagged confirmed (mostly the IPs) Semi-protecting his targets has been the only thing that had any effect in slowing his efforts (and now he's taken to trying to trick established editors into doing edits for him or getting them to make unprotection requests). I'm pretty sure it's not a software bug. If you check your contributions, you can find the articles that you marked as fully protected by searching for the string "edit=sysop". Gary King (talk) 05:59, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

(Chiming in) I agree that the ones mentioned by Gary King above are all fully-protected. If I, as an admin, click "edit" on Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders, I get the usual text: "WARNING: This page has been protected so that only administrators can edit it. Please ensure that you are following the protection policy." I get the log entry "02:29, 29 June 2009 PMDrive1061 (talk | contribs | block) protected Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders (expires 02:29, 29 December 2009 (UTC)) (expires 02:29, 29 December 2009 (UTC)) ‎ (Excessive vandalism: Bambifan101 target) (hist | change)" (emphasis added), and I get the pink background to the editing box indicating a fully-protected page. I don't have a particular article that I'd like to get unprotected at the moment, no. I just noticed that one of the articles I was watching was fully protected, which I found extremely odd considering it gets one or two edits a month on average. I can wait until you are able to drop the fully protected articles down to semi-protection. There are roughly 40 pages that you have fully protected recently. Vandalism will always be a threat. I don't really see how placing dozens or even hundreds of articles under semi-protection will solve anything, since persistent vandals, like how you described this one in particular, will always find an unprotected article to vandalize if they feel like it. Question

Earlier today I closed an Mfd (Misplaced Pages:Miscellany for deletion/Allsterecho talk redirects) that I had voted in. Usually you shouldn't do this, however, the result was "speedy delete" and was carried out by Graeme Bartlett. Obviously, as I am not an admin, I didn't delete it myself. XOP Networks Page Deletion

The recently created wikipedia page for XOP Networks was subject to speedy deletion. I justified the existence of the page by saying it was not created for promotion or vandalism. Please let me know if it is safe to begin editing the page under this new user name which more clearly identifies me as an individual, not a company associate. (I am not employed by XOP Networks, nor do I have any intention of promoting their products.) I simply wanted to begin their encyclopedia page so that others may learn about the company's history, founding, and miscellaneous facts. Again, I just want to know if I can safely make edits to this page under my new user name.

The World Wasn't Meant page deletion

Hello. I recently created a page for the webcomic The World Wasn't Meant. I believe it was deleted for lack of third party links/information which would verify its significance. I have links to various third party articles (reviews, etc) that I was hoping to include, but was unsure where to include them. I am new to editing Misplaced Pages. Is there some way to include these third party links, even if you are not specifically mentioning them in the body of the article? Perhaps they go in the reference section?

I was just going to add to the content when you wiped it out. There is no information on this processor on the Internet and aggregating it is a huge task.

Immediate deletion of page

Hi,

Sorry to be a bother but I just created a page for a person in the media, Alex Hooper-Hodson and it was instantly deleted. I can provide the appropriate online references i.e. links to major newspapers sites and articles written by him to verify he falls into the category of a notable person. Other family members of his are on Misplaced Pages and he has a very similar career with appropriately important instances that can be referenced. I am not writing this entry due to knowing him or any other reason but just I heard he's finally stopped working at my favourite magazine and thought he deserved a Misplaced Pages entry for all his good work at my favourite magazine.

Can you advise how I should proceed?

Hey, I saw your comments on simple wiki and I thought I'd drop you a line, from what I can tell there hasn't been any type of formal complaints to the ISP for Bambi though he definitely the requirements for WP:Abuse Response. We're starting to get nearer the end of our rebuild of the old Abuse Report system and while we haven't done usernames yet we have definitely talked about the possibility. We would need to get check users involved of course and while the privacy policy has a specific clause allowing the release of the IP to help contact ISPs I would guess they may want to wait until we're a little more set up before they did something like that. We haven't put together an official policy on how to do usernames yet though my thoughts when talking to BSmithme has been to create an abuse report and then present that to the Checkusers as the reason we need the IPs to contact the ISPs. I just wanted to say thank you for helping deal with user 216.165.33.90. I've no idea why they said that I should include an edit summary to explain why I was reverting their edits. Personally I would've thought that Twinkle posting it was reverting vandalism was enough!

I did actually check what Misplaced Pages said on the articles he was vandalising and compared it to what Google found. Funnily enough Google agrees with all of my reverts.

It's the first time I've come across such a serial vandaliser like that. Is there any tips that you have in dealing with serial vandalisers? --5 albert square (talk) 01:49, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the tips. I kind of stumbled across the guy accidentally when I was checking the anon IPs contributions list, noticed that John was dealing with it, but there were quite a lot of edits coming in so thought I'd lend a hand. I'm guessing by the fact that he posted on the Misplaced Pages Protection Page, that he must've been following me around Misplaced Pages undoing all my edits, really annoys me when people intentionally vandalise the encyclopedia.

Deleted Page: "The Phuture That Never Happened"

I don't understand why you deleted this page. I Know I didn't fill it with a lot of text, but I am not good at writing, so I leave this to other persons..

I am new to editing here, but I have used Misplaced Pages as a sourche for many years now. Tracklistings on other albums have been very useful for me, when trying to find out more about an artist/groups relases. So I thought I would contribute a bit, especially on albums that I have bought and that are a bit difficult to find information about.

Please reconsider you deletion of the page.

If not, you should probably delete the link to this page from the artist "Mental Overdrive".

When you deleted this page as a copyvio, you neglected to also take care of the "what links here" stuff. Now the creator is fighting to keep what appears to be an identical article at Brigantine Black Pearl. There's also a copy on their user talk page. Blind reverts

Hello, while the vandal IP has made a rather big mess of the Armenian-Azeri articles lately, I caution you to refrain from making blind reverts in instances where he has removed the Azeri name. There are no third-party sources to support their inclusion so the mere fact that a sockpuppet is making these edits does not excuse their validity. Most, if not all, of those names don't belong there. I'm telling you this as an editor who has wide experience in this and it's generally preferable that you rollback at least some of your reverts. I don't think mass removal of Azerbaijani names was justified. Each case should be discussed separately, and arguments for removal must be presented and discussed. I see no reason for removal of vast majority of those names. Grandmaster 19:32, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
