Self identification
I don't believe MMY self identifies as Hindu so have removed all of the Hindu categories. Please discuss if interested in re adding them.
Note: Removed them while I had been automatically logged out.(Littleolive oil (talk) 02:55, 22 June 2015 (UTC))
Probably should adjust the info box too. (Littleolive oil (talk) 03:58, 22 June 2015 (UTC))
- Of course Maharishi self-identifies as Hindu. He was a disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath. Sparaig2 (talk) 07:17, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
Hagiography
Maharishi was one of the most controversial new religious figures of the 20th century. You would not know anything about that from this entry. It’s a propaganda piece, pure hagiography clearly written from a biased POV. Blackmetalskinhead (talk) 07:57, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
- You are welcome to your opinion but that doesn't really help to improve the article; please provide specific, reliably-sourced information to support your assertion so that this issue can be addressed.--Shantavira| 11:08, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'm surprised there is no "Controversy" section! I suggest that links be accumulated here for materials to be considered as citations. I will contact appropriate people to contribute to this article, and I hope others will do the same. I'm sure this article needs going over for accuracy, too.
- The "Controversy" section of the Misplaced Pages entry on Transcendental Meditation barely touches on this issue.

Maharishi has been honored by the Indian government several ways recently. How to include this?
- Maharishi was honored by the creation of a new award, the Maharishi Dhanvantari Award, created by the Indian government in the memory of MMY and meant to honor people who have done serious work to spread Ayurveda world wide. Note that Maharishi's picture appears on the award itself as presented by the AYUSH minister: Minister of AYUSH Shripad Naik & Ambassador Venu Rajamony presented the Maharishi Dhanvantari award to Padmabhushan Vaidya Devendra Triguna, President of the All India Ayurveda Congress & Mr Tony Nader, Head of the Maharishi International Transcendental Meditation movement.
- The AYUSH Ministery issued a 2019 calender to honor “Path-finding visionaries who have appeared in the different streams of AYUSH systems at different times in history and contributed their valuable share to the growth and development of respective practices.” Maharishi is the person honored in the month of January with the words: “Known for original contributions to Yoga and Meditation, he is remembered most for developing the Transcendental Meditation technique.”
- There is a rumor that the Indian government is also issuing a commemorative postage stamp in MMY's honor, but I haven't see that yet.
How does one include these kinds of things in this article?Sparaig2 (talk) 10:11, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- By supplying reliable sources to support your information; not Facebook posts and rumours.--Shantavira| 11:12, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
Material removed and questionable material
I have removed claims related to TM published by David Orme-Johnson given his obvious conflict of interest with the subject matter. Further, I question the material regarding Yogi's celibacy sourced to the book by Tony Anthony as making unsupported conclusions. Anthony claims, essentially, that since Maharishi insisted on celibacy from his pupils, he, himself, must also have been celibate. This is a specious argument at best. I invite @Will M Davis: to discuss this matter. WikiDan61ReadMe!! 15:49, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Further to WikiDan's comments, as I pointed out when I removed the Anthony content after it was added the second time, the book is evidently self-published. The ostensible publisher, "Montgomery Wood Publishing", seems to be merely a name given to the author's own efforts to publish the book. There is no evidence of any other books by this publisher on e.g. worldcat, and no evidence that they exist. Cambial — foliar❧ 18:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
