Pleasuredrome, Waterloo, is an independent gay sauna (or gay bathhouse) opened in 1998.

Description

Condom pack handed out on entry.

The sauna is set in railway arches. The venue comprises of two floors with most facilities on the ground floor and locker rooms and maze/cubicles on the first floor.

Facilities include a jacuzzi, 2 dry saunas, 2 steam rooms, cafe/bar area, cubical maze, glory-hole and orgy room, maze of cabins as well as private cabins.

The sauna is notable among London gay saunas for being open 24 hours a day all year, including Bank Holidays. Consequently it markets itself as "We never close".

Etiquette

On entry customers are given two towels and a safer sex pack of condoms and lube. More condoms are kept on the backs of all cubical doors. When entering, customers can ask for a wrist band, the colour indicating the customer's sexual preference (top, bottom or versatile). The lockers need a pound coin to use and the key is kept on a strap that customers wear on their wrists or ankles.

History

The sauna opened as a gay sex on premises venue or gay bathhouse in 1998.

In 2002, Pleasuredrome was central to an unfair dismissal case where a Managing Director had been followed by private detectives going to the sauna. He won his case in 2003.

A claim of rape by an 18 year old in 2006, against a 24 year old, resulted in a police investigation and the closure of the sauna for a day. The police did not proceed with any prosecution.
