The modern and sophisticated Shangri-La "S" logo not only resembles uniquely Asian architectural forms, but also reminds the beholder of majestic mountains reflected in the waters of a tranquil lake.

The group started in 1971 with its first and flagship hotel in Singapore, and now has 44 deluxe hotels and resorts located in key Asian and Australian cities. The hotel group also has a sister brand called Traders Hotels, established in 1989 to cater mostly to business travellers.

In February 2005, Shangri-La announced that it will be opening a hotel in Europe, at London Bridge Tower along the banks of River Thames. The hotel is planned to open by late 2009, and is projected to be the tallest building in Europe at 310 metres (1,016 ft.) high.

The group is also entering the North American market with a new property in Vancouver, Canada currently under construction, due to be open by mid-2008. The Hotel group has recently announced hotels in the United States, with Chicago, due to open in 2009 and Miami, slated to open in 2008. Other gateways in the United States are to follow in the coming years.
