I generally hold very little respect for modern politicians, on account of the fact that most of them are corrupt, capable of being bought out, and forced to bow to the overwhelming power of special interests groups. That said, those above - IMHO - exemplify the very best that the world - and the country - can have in terms of political leaders. It is the political leaders who defy power, be it religious, social, economic, or military, and dare to force us to change for the better who I admire.

It is they who challenge the system, who stare absolute power and tyranny in the face and refuse to do what it tells them to, who tell us what we need to hear rather than what we want to hear, who ensure that we are never lured into complacency by those with power, be they democrat or republican; conservative or liberal; capitalist or socialist or anarchist; who are truly deserving of our respect and our admiration. It is the thinkers of the world who truly change the world.
