Three-revert warning

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Gaffer tape. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. --McGeddon (talk) 10:20, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

ani notice

Hello, Jack Merridew. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Jack Merridew's disruptive signature,. Thank you..— dαlus 22:31, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Jack, the signature is a bit of a problem. Would you mind not using it anymore? AniMate 22:41, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

I agree, remove the signature, it can be considered as disruption. If you remove this warning and still keep the signature, I will block you. Secret 22:57, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Jack, there's any number of people wishing for any spurious reason to report you to ANI and get you blocked; probably best not to give them an easy one, no? Black Kite 23:38, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Review

Well, we'll see. I'm not going to get overly involved here anymore. But i just read your statement on the live page and thought it was honest and classy. Good on ya. If all works out Ok, here's my reward to you: My written English is strong and my reading comprehension in Indonesian is quite good (but don't expect me to read Lontar in basa singgih). Any article that needs helping from Indonesian sources, let me know.Bali ultimate (talk) 23:47, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks; all counts. Pity there's no popcorn here ;) Cheers, Jack Merridew 02:40, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

A strong suggestion..

Jack.. the best thing you can do here is NOT get involved in the ANI discussion. I know the urge is overwhelming, but it doesn't help you, or anyone really. SirFozzie (talk) 02:26, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

I did recuse. The sig issue can wait, too. I think I need another chai. Thanks for the good advice. Cheers, Jack Merridew 02:29, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't know where exactly you're living or what your tastes are. But what you need, if you're in the kuta area or some other urban place with lots of old jawa jawa awi ibus around selling food is some good old cincing cincing tempeh (it's what i call it -- diced up tempeh, usually wok fried with some kecap manis, though i've had it delicious also poached in coconut milk kas padang. Sorry to go here -- but I'm for most things Bali, but not their cooking). Then, depending on your personal fitness, you paddle out into a friendly, but solid, beach break for an hour or two. I think Kerobokan is a good option (if you're one of those ubud slackers, god help you. If you're a good surfer, stay away from Ulu. Today is not your day). Then you go to the local fisherman that you slipped 50,000 rups too earlier in the week to hold his best stuff back from those hotel bastards, and you get the biggest snapper you've ever seen right out of the water (with a cumi-cumi side). And, well, if you don't know what you should do next, then i support your indef ban, you idiot fucker.Bali ultimate (talk) 02:58, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Ya, Ubud ;) But I get around and eat rather well. Couple times I year I do a week at a beach; like Trawangan or Tejakula. I avoid Kuta as much as possible. I have a couple of warungs run by Ibu's who cook well, so it's a mix of local and fancy meals. Cheers, Jack Merridew 03:08, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Not an fan of Kuta myself (though i've had a fantastic time in seminyak occasionally). But i think the coast is unfairly maligned -- I'm a surfer obviously. The key thing in this post is, in the tourist sprawl, if you love indonesian food writ large, you can always get a better meal than in Kuta. Well, go hiking, and if that brilliant/drunk/crazy bird watching brit who used to run the beggar's bush in ubud is still around, take a walk with him.Bali ultimate (talk) 03:13, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
I've had a few good times in the 'yak, too. I like the hill because it's cooler; and it's kewl. Not sure who the brit might be, but there are lots of the crazy/drunk types about town. I recoil from all the sprawl downhill and even the 'bud is getting overwhelmed. You see our fucking pothole? Damn tourist buses crushed a large culvert, and there are 3 others in poor shape. They did a half-assed fix that took four months. Cheers, Jack Merridew 03:24, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
I can't even tell where that is. By the river? It's been six years for me. I forget the brits name, he was some broken down son of an indian colonial official. If he was alive today, he'd be pushing 80 (and he drank a lot -- more than me even -- so i'm not surprised if he's gone. His place back in the day was just over the out of town side of the campuhan, on the paddy side. Last time i was there they were tarting it up though (he used to be very proud that he was one of only two pubs in town that had draft bintang). I hope to pulong kampung in the next year or two, and if i make it to ubud (possible -- i'll be heading to ambon) I'll give you a shout in advance.Bali ultimate (talk) 03:33, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
The pothole is Ubud; right in front of the market You mean Jason?; he died about a year ago, so did Gunnar; and both from the drinking. Best to not snap at people in edit summaries; Rlevse has clue. In spades. I've not done the outer islands, although a friend visits Papua about 3-4 times a year running hiking expeditions. Spends the rest of his time shagging the locals. Wiki-people always say to keep calm when some wiki-shite kicks up and they just don't seem to understand that I'm about the calmest editor here. The "toxic environment" phenomenon is not a wiki-invention, it's been imported from real-world toxicity. The wiki simply reflect the nature of the world; at least the nature of the parts that most editors are from. Cheers, Jack Merridew 03:45, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Everything OK, more wikidrama? Dr. Blofeld 10:24, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Jack, per the comments you left on my talk page, I changed your sig here and on ANI to the MediaWiki default. I don't consider the ones I just changed disruptive, but they are annoying to edit around.--Chaser (talk) 23:06, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Where's the link to the ANI post? I thought he used the "shadow-style" signature earlier! - User:7107delicious 04:41, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Here is a link, in case it gets archived. I don't really understand the need for the big dust up, but that's my opinion. Plastikspork ―Œ 15:44, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I see, and now it seems he is using the shadow signature again. Just to make sure he does not use the old signature again, as shown per this. And it seems that he is back on Misplaced Pages! - User:7107delicious 23:41, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Is this a joke? Who are you to dictate signatures? I don't find your signature disruptive, but it is annoying. - Josette 01:14, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

I see that you are back with the same old signature. Remember: you put yourself in a serious risk of being indefinitely blocked with this one. Not only did you change my signature, you are showing the signs of being disruptive. User:7107delicious 07:49, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm not really sure why you're concerning yourself with all this. Have we met before? Cheers, Jack Merridew aka david 08:09, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
He's 13. I repeat the advice at the top. Do not get involved with any WP:ANI. Hipocrite (talk) 08:12, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
I sensed that. I also see that he says he lives in Indonesia, as do I; and that some of the structure of his pages is derived from some of my older pages, with some colour tweaks. Such is teh wiki. The advice is noted, and appreciated. I'm not creating these shit storms, I'm responding to them. Cheers, Jack Merridew 08:23, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Jack Merridew. It's not annoying, it's funny. Not as funny as I am, of course, but it's certainly a good faith effort. Some of the best socks have some of the best user pages. Mine currently has the painters and decorators in, but will be reborn soon with added humour and deliciousness. Yours could get seriouz kewlness if you likes. How did this Dog guy manage to learn to type so fast? Must be because he has a larger keyboard.
Uhm... "woof"? Ah, I get it. Another linguist. Lots of foreign languages. Do you think this new guy here is also a telerobotic mutant etraterrestrial teddy bear, like my sockmaster , or a normal one? I have my suspicions, you see… -- FAUoFPaS (Ж) 13:18, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
@Dog; glad you like. It can be goose up with some moar barking as you see fit. Cheers, Jack Merridew 13:47, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

@FPAs- great pic, @Jack - the don't poke addition is awesome, and feel free to tweak Dog's user page any way you like. — RlevseTalk14:15, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Glad you approve ;) and no slight intended re FPaS's pic which had a good run. You see that Dog's page has a cousin; it's more closely related to Hamlet. You see what happened to FAUoFPaS? Cheers, Jack Merridew 14:25, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Lighthouse request

Hi. Can you do me a favor and add a pushpin map option to Template:Infobox lighthouse but use File:Lighthouse icon.svg for the pin. Maybe 15-20px will be OK. Dr. Blofeld 23:06, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

I added something. It could probably use some tweaking. The icon that you suggested was not public domain, and hence could have problems if there is no link to the icon. I found a public domain one, so I used that one instead. I tried adding the pushpin map to a few articles and there appears to be some resistance, perhaps due to the size of the map. Plastikspork ―Œ 00:42, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Kewl; I'll look moar closely at that. I like maps and am not up on such details. Terima kasih, Jack Merridew 09:23, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

It looks nice. But if it means i have to pay attention to coding going forward then I'm in trouble. I presume not. But if so, well, it will get ugly.Bali ultimate (talk) 23:32, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

BC elections links for Parker Williams

I saw your edits and reversed, so far, only one of them, on the 1916 election; there's no reason to un-link something just because the target article was deleted for copyvio; I didn't see the deleted article and suspect it wasn't even about the same Parker Williams. Please try and be a little less zealous, it causes work for other editors; if it was about hte same Parker Williams (unlikely) that still doesn't mean the article isn't needed, or that the redlinks shouldn't stand as-is.Skookum1 (talk) 13:38, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

The links were cut because multiple individuals are all being referred to by the same link target; I was working from a list of gay porn stars and a BLP perspective. Cheers, Jack Merridew 13:41, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Rosa Coote

Why did you delete the paragraph about the character appearing in List of characters in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen#Rosa_Coote? It seems perfectly cromulent to me. Kenilworth Terrace (talk) 21:16, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Because it's trivia. Just because that comic usurped hundreds of characters from hundreds of works does not mean that coverage in the articles in the articles on original is warranted; much better to encapsulate it in the list you gave. You saw that some anon tried to plaster a huge template in there, too? Jack Merridew 01:04, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
I see your sock expanded that trivial character from a redirect; too funny. Cheers, Jack Merridew 01:13, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
The fact that the character is reused in LOEG is specifically mentioned by one of the sources. I think that's sufficient. I don't care for the template. As for notability in general, six references again specifically discussing this character. Incidentally I don't appreciate your throwaway accusation of sock-puppetry ("multiple accounts to mislead, deceive, or disrupt"). Why would expanding a redirect into an article be in any way amusing? AfD nomination of Ruby Dynasty

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Ruby Dynasty. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Misplaced Pages:Notability and "What Misplaced Pages is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Ruby Dynasty. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:05, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Userpage problem

Ok, well you already saw it on User talk:Casliber but still:

I am currently building my new userpage in my Sandbox. So far it is extremely complicated (to me) and I barely understand the formatting. If you go to the Sandbox, you can see my first sentence doesn't actually go to the end of the space. I was wondering if anyone could fix this, or even slightly simplify my page, because I know it can be a lot simpler and I've spent hours trying to fix this small problem.

For some reason, the text looks fine on Firefox, however on IE the text only goes to a certain point on the page and then goes to a new line. I'm not sure how it looks on other people's browsers, so any help would be good.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Forenti 01:56, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

I tidied up the code a bit. I'm not really sure what you're shooting for here and just which sentence is the one you mean; the "Please note that..." one? The "Welcome"? Anyway, I'm looking with Firefox and focus on correctness of code and care little if benighted browsers choke. Your code had issues so it's possible IE is going to like the new code better. Something else to be aware of is that layouts can look quite different in different window sizes. Cheers, Jack Merridew 02:47, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks so much for the tidy, it was extremely messy. Im pretty sure you fixed the problem with the tidy as well, it was the 'Welcome' text. Also, if you ever have any spare time, please take a look at the task list, but I don't expect you to do any work if you have other stuff to do. Anyway thanks again, Forenti 03:21, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

do you know what a 'rescue' is?

I thought about adding the 'rescue' tag to this article which I recently imported from the Dictionary of Sydney - for some reason I vaguely recall that you might know how that works (it's either you or Cas, and he's commented already, so I'm pestering you!) - if you get a sec. to take a look and see if the tag is an ok fit, that'd be coolio... merry christmas too :-) Privatemusings (talk) 05:06, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I've taken a peek and believe that that article should be kept and whatever issues addressed via regular editing; the license would allow use here and editing will take it forward. First change I see is that the title could loose ", Australia" as superfluous. As to {{rescue}} tagging is, I think not as that tag will only serve to attract editors who are not genuinely helpful to building an encyclopaedia, rather they will assist in keeping it, which I believe it will be anyways. Happy holidays, Jack Merridew 20:45, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: Moving the note on the Flagged Revs Opposition Petition

Hi Jack. Just a quick note - I actually started that petition, and the reason I left the note ON it, was because not everybody will come by and read the talk page - the note was also there, too. Hope you don't mind me dropping by, but I have put the note back where I left it. Thanks! BarkingFish 01:13, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

You started it, so you WP:OWN it? I see you also reverted other nits I had tidied up. I'm unimpressed with your feigned courtesy; I certainly don't mind your stopping by, but that has nothing to do with my minding your blind reversion. A petition is a proposition and a list of signatories; on Misplaced Pages, this should map to the format I adjusted that page to. Discussion belongs on the talk page; your 'see also' section is a convention from article space leaking into the Misplaced Pages namespace. Anyway, such is expected; the barriers to editing here are low; anyone can edit. Jack Merridew 01:28, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
