Santo Amaro is a borough of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It was formerly a separate municipality until 1933, when it was incorporated to the municipality of São Paulo.
It is located in the southern area of the city and has a special function for the people living in other boroughs around, due the distance of the main downtown (in Sé). It borders the borough of Pinheiros to the north and shares with it the area known by its own people as the "Brazilian Manhattan" along the Berrini Avenue, due to the very modern buildings, including five star hotels like Hyatt, Melia, and Hilton. Many of multinational companies like Intel, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, SAP, Nestlé, Deloitte, Accenture and Pfizer have their Brazilian offices in Santo Amaro.
Some of São Paulo's leading upscale shopping malls are located in Santo Amaro. They include Shopping Morumbi, Shopping D&D, and Shopping Marketplace, with Shopping Morumbi in particular being one of the best known malls in Brazil. Cine TAM is located in Shopping Morumbi.
