Mindy Newell (born October 24, 1953) is an American comic book writer and editor.

Biography

A long-time fan of comics, particularly of Marvel's Spider-Man, she sent some submissions to DC Comics in 1983 at a time when the company was actively looking for new blood. Hired by editors Dick Giordano and Karen Berger, Newell wrote memorable fill-in issues for Legion of Super-Heroes and Superman.

She was the first woman to script Wonder Woman, and wrote Her Sister's Keeper, a seminal Catwoman limited series. Newell also briefly worked on First Comics's American Flagg and Eclipse Comics's The New Wave.

In the late 1980s she moved to Marvel Comics as an editor.

Newell has always maintained a career as a nurse while writing comics, and has since returned to that occupation full-time.

Her spouse John Higgins is a British comic book writer, illustrator, and letterer. Newell and Higgins scripted the series Faces for 2000 AD in 2004.
