Omar Sharif Amanat is a businessman who founded Tradescape, a day-trading technology firm that was reported once to have processed 7% of NASDAQ's trading volume on a single day, and was named one of the "Top 100 Companies in the United States" by the Red Herring magazine. E*Trade acquired Tradescape in a deal initially valued at $276.2 million in total consideration including $96.2 million in initial consideration plus $180 million in contingent consideration. The deal broke down in litigation with both sides claiming breach of contract.
He has also tied himself as the Executive Producer of several films including the Academy Award nominated The Visitor, George Clooney's documentary about the Darfur genocide entitled Darfur Now, Smart People starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid, and The Mysteries of Pittsburgh starring Sienna Miller and Nick Nolte among other movies. However it is uncertain which, if any, of these movies has his name in the actual film credits of the mentioned movies.
