Hello and welcome to Misplaced Pages!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!
Jrdioko

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

I strongly disagree

I wrote an article about an ice show troop from Canada "Le Patin Libre". The sources are cited. The information is verifiable. I don't understand why you are talking this way about my article.

Can you please verify what you say, and proove the information I post false before editing and changing the encyclopedy's content? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Salvador de la glace (talkcontribs) 16:29, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Let others have their say too

The beauty of Misplaced Pages is that it is a collaboration of many different users. You're taking away certain additions to certain articles which is not nice when they when takent he time to do the writing for it.

Also, why is a certain fan page on a certain skater favored over another. I think that is favoritism.

Please be open to other people's input in articles.

Hello!

I haven't forgotten your email I swear, it's just that this WP thing is so addictive, it sucks up all my time... BTW, don't forget the frog articles, we have only a couple dozen of the 4,800 we should have! Been working on beetle families lately so they'll have something crunchy for dessert! Stan 05:33, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

?

Are those frog tracks I see behind me? Or do you have some humongous list of articles lacking in essential arcane Wiki symbols? Whichever - thank you. It's nice to see somebody is paying attention to these things. I just wish you'd rewritten that spongy sponge (food). Onward! --Mothperson 11:53, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Idli link

Thank you so much - great link! --Mothperson 14:56, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

I am not a candy bar

When you put Heath bar into the category candy bars, what did you do, exactly? My talk page is now listed under U (User:Mothperson) in the candy bar category. Please fix! --Mothperson 03:28, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

Thank you very much, but I'm still at a loss. I never put any category on my user talk page. It just appeared out of the blue. I don't understand how that linkage occurred. --Mothperson 11:40, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

Oh. Ah. Soooo......figure skating, huh? (rapidly changing subject) A sibling of mine is a fanatic, so I'm half of one by default.

Anyway, duh, and my bad. --Mothperson 13:31, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

stubs

I think your idea of what is "no longer a stub" differs from most everyone else. Certainly Pinto bean is still a stub. I see others that are marginal. Do you suppose you could change your parameters a little? -- WormRunner | Talk 21:28, 9 July 2005 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Edgar Evans, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Bombs

Yeah, "bomb vessel" is probably a better generic term, a little bureaucratic-sounding but not much reason to make separate articles for subtypes. Naval stuff has kind of receded into the background lately, as I've been crunching through the 8,000+ pictures of desert plants I took this spring... Stan 19:20, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Elaine Zayak

Anyone have an email or contact info for Elaine Zayak now? Im an old friend that would like to say hello somehow...thanks Dean

Tara Lipinski

You did a great job finding the quoatation and all. But somehow, I don't find the article neutral even though you found these things in newspaper, magazines, etc. You don't see such things on other people's bio on Misplaced Pages (eg: Nicole Kidman saying that Tom Cruise didn't treat her kindly, etc), which might be true. I think these infos do not belong into an encyclopedia. Just by selecting some quotes over others is a bias. Iniminimagimo 15:23, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Sandwich category

Aloha. I noticed you added Category:Sandwiches to San Francisco burrito. Perhaps you could help me understand this categorization, as I noticed the Sandwich article has been changed as well. For example, I know from personal experience that you will not be able to find burritos in most sandwich shops, however you can order a mexican-style sandwich (a Torta) in most taquerias (and they are pretty tasty). I was just wondering if you know why a burrito is classified as a sandwich. --Viriditas 10:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, again. I wasn't arguing that a particular kind of burrito should or shouldn't be classified as a sandwich. I was merely wondering why burritos in general are classified as a sandwich, aside from the changes somebody made to the burrito page. As I said above, in the real world, sandwich shops do not recognize this categorization, and mexican restaurants carry actual sandwiches called tortas. --Viriditas 19:45, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes, see wrap (food). Some types of wraps are in fact similar to a sandwich, but many are quite distinct from a traditional burrito. In any case, thanks for your help. Eventually, I'll get to the bottom of this. --Viriditas 21:02, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:1961-us-team.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1961-us-team.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --SCEhardT 04:29, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Figure Skating

I note you have removed the flags of the members of the ISU from the Figure Skating page on the grounds that the information is repeated on the ISU page. Where, pray, should the flags of the non-ISU figure skating nations go? Rhyddfrydol 21:41, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

  • With respect, I find your attitude to countries which are not members of the ISU very arrogant. Just because they are not members of the ISU doesn't mean that Ice Skating in those countries is of no worth. Many of those federations (such as the Singapore Figure Skating Association) are asiprant members of the ISU, and take part in non-ISU events - in the case of Singapore they take part in Skate Asia. Just because nationals of certain countries are not up to the standards of Joubert and the like, doesn't mean their efforts are of no worth. Even Joubert had to start somewhere! Rhyddfrydol 22:29, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: Ladies v. Women

I appologise for your not being able to find the page. It is on a tag on the medals pages because that is what the page officially started out as. It is unfortunate that you were unable to join in on the debate, but if you have seen the discussion, it wasn't an arbitrary decision. It was decided among us all. I see your point, but the decision has been made. If you feel strongly against the current state of this argument, then I suggest you put it up for re-inplacement on this page. From there, it will possibly get re instated as a resolved. I appreciate your concern. Reply to this message if you still have comments or questions! --Jared / 21:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Reduction of categories for Futurist meals

Why were the catefories reduced for Futurist meals? Only the broad category of cuisine is listed however, the article does describe the Futurist idea of equipment for preparing those meals, cooking mthodology e.g., meat sculptures and methods. --jadepearl 19:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification on music in ice dancing!

As I noted on the Talk page for ice dancing, I've cleared it up on the page itself to make it more clear which competitions allow what kind of music for which kinds of figure skating. Will probably make a similar change to the figure skating page. BTW, wow. That is a LARGE range of interests! Runa27 22:13, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

New wikiproject

Hi Dr.frog. I noticed that you edit a lot of figure skating-related articles, so I thought you might be interested in Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Figure Skating, which I just created. It needs work, and any help would be appreciated. Cheers! --Fang Aili 21:24, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

comments at pair skating

I was wondering if you had any further comment at Talk:Pair skating. It looks like, however, that this issue has already been decided . If the Olympic WikiProject is using "women" throughout (for figure skating and other sports), I think we should be consistent. Let me know what you think. Thank you! --Fang Aili 14:13, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Notice

I have opened another debate regarding ladies/women here. Please feel free to edit your arguments, as I just copy/pasted them from Talk:Pair skating. Thank you. --Fang Aili 20:44, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

note

Here's to hoping we can come to an agreement! I appreciate your continued contributions to figure skating articles and Misplaced Pages in general. You're clearly a dedicated user and an asset to the community. Cheers! --Fang Aili 21:23, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to tell you I added some informative notes to the pair skating article. This is just to inform the reader about why "ladies" is used, because it is sure to raise eyebrows. I do not consider this a "permanent" solution (as permanent as Misplaced Pages gets, that is), as I'd still like to get more opinions on the matter (hopefully when User:TheProject gets back online he can comment). However I'd like to ask you--in exactly which articles do you think we need to use "ladies", and in what context? I agree with you that "ladies" should be use when refering to the ladies' event, or as in "ladies' champion", but I am unsure on where we disagree elsewhere. Thank you. --Fang Aili 21:13, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Am I to assume you don't wish to discuss this any further? --Fang Aili 14:40, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
No problem, was just wondering. Cheers. --Fang Aili 21:51, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 23 July, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article University Park at MIT, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for the interesting article! Never knew about the Fig Newtons! Cheers -- Samir धर्म 18:44, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Tonya Harding deletions

From the template/summary for the recently revised policy concerning biographies of living persons, "This article is about or directly concerns one or more living people, and the biographies of living persons policy must therefore be adhered to. Specifically, unsourced or poorly sourced negative material about living persons should not be posted to this article or its talk page(s). Such material must be removed without hesitation. The three-revert rule does not apply to such removals." The material I removed was completely unsourced. Part of the reason for the new policy, I think, is to push editors familiar with a subject to provide references. All I know about Harding comes from TV, so I didn't qualify to repair it. The editor formerly known as Harmonica Wolfowitz 20:39, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. Rather than get into an ongoing saga of undoing each other's edits - let me tell you why your use of the phrase "an American Former Figure Skater" is wrong. When associated with "Figure Skater", both "American" and "former" are adjectives. As such, they should conform the correct grammatical order. In this instance it is grammatically incorrect to place "American" (origin) before "former" (time). You could, if you so chose, change the phrase to "an American and a former figure skater" as a conjunctive now separates the two adjectives. If, however, both adjectives are placed next to each other the correct way of saying it is "a former American figure skater". If you disagree please let me know and I will refer it on. If not, please reverse your edit. David T Tokyo 13:55, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated.

John Curry

Thanks for fixing than. It's curious; the BBC article is mistaken. Or perhaps they mean 'first gold medal in men's figure skating'. --Fang Aili 19:09, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Fish sauce

I reverted your edit from sauce->fish sauce on the oyster sauce article. But when I really thought about it, I guess I don't really have a problem with it being put in the category of "seafood-based sauces", it's just that "fish sauce" is a bit limiting and inaccurate. The same goes for XO sauce, which does not have any fish in it. Maybe we can change the name of the category? Sjschen 18:36, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Departure from Apple

Geez, word gets around fast! Yeah, my last day was last Friday - going to work on Firefox at Mozilla Corp, starting there in two weeks. Kind of a switch, but I was getting tired of GNU after 17 years, and then the Moz recruiter called... Don't have a new email address yet, but will likely be xxxx. (I do have a personal address for the interim, use WP email feature and I'll reply, avoids putting on public page.) Stan 22:37, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Parma Violets

I didn't understand why you removed this item of confectionery from the Confectionery category, so I put it back again. By all means do it again if there was a reason, but please leave an explanation also. Thanks. CiaranG 17:23, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Taboo food and drink

If you'd like to contribute constructively to the taboo food and drink article, please don't delete sections that has appropriate references. And don't just delete sections because there are errors in spelling and/or grammar. Just correct them instead. Just deleting valid contant is borderline vandalism. // Liftarn

Food science categories revert

I just wanted to let you know I reverted to the Food science article with the category foods and agriculture for the following reasons. 1) The science of foods is known as food science. 2) In many universities with this major, the department is classified under their college of agriculture, or agriculture and life sciences. Noted universitites with food science departments are the University of California, Davis, Michigan State University, University of Georgia, Rutgers University, North Carolina State University, and Ohio State University. Please let me know if you disagree with this. Thanks. Chris 22:13, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

I see your point. I will move food science to the Food and drink category and removed it from both the foods and agriculture. Chris 22:35, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Zsa Zsa Rordan

I am afraid that I have had to remove your prod notice. The criteria you invoked are comments on a talk page; they are not Misplaced Pages policy or even recognised guidelines. I have no views on whether the article should be deleted, but please use WP:AfD or use accepted Misplaced Pages policy.--Runcorn 13:09, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. I have no desire to be awkward; I am just trying to ensure that the rules are followed. If there is consensus that the article should be deleted, I will be happy to delete it myself.--Runcorn 21:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Weir and links

Hi Dr.frog, i think that our interesting discussion about external links on Weir article is not constructive. I know that people from Johnny Weir: A Rising Star and Johnny Weir - Russia spent a lot of time working on this article and it will be unfair to remove their links. It`s really a lot of exclusive information on that sites. So i cann`t agree with your position. Arealy 02:13, 16 January 2007 (GMT) Arealy

Diaper Genie

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Diaper Genie, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Misplaced Pages:What Misplaced Pages is not and Misplaced Pages:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Misplaced Pages or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --Eastmain 17:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Converting an Advert

Although the Drip Coffee Lounge article needs work, it does contain references to awards and article(s), which is part of Misplaced Pages's NPOV and non-advertisement principle, as I understand it. As the original author, I am not involved in the ownership-or with the owners-of the company, and simply find the place to be unique in the Phoenix area (thus the article). I also (hope to) identify DCL as an example of the change in culture that is taking place in Downtown Phoenix (note the editing of that article, as well). Any suggestions on how to edit/write the DCL article to better reflect a NPOV would be appreciated. Cheers azwaldo 02:07, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

My interest in posting information does not match your conviction. Cheers. azwaldo 01:16, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Medical gag

When you deleted the content of that article and turned it into a redirect, it would have been helpful to ensure that all of the material was added to the Gag (medical device) article.--Taxwoman 20:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

re: notable competitions

I have no problem getting rid of most of those, but I'd prefer to keep regionals and sectionals in. They are qualifying competitions for Nationals, and so while placing at one of those doesn't make a skater notable, it does mean the skater gets to go to Nationals. I also think it's interesting to see, at a glance, how a skater did at Nationals vs how he or she made it there (like winning sectionals, but placing 14th, or placing 4th at sectionals and getting on the podium). Of course regionals and sectionals don't establish notability, but I think they're important enough competitions by virtue of feeding into nationals. Sure, they don't make a skater notable, but I think they deserve to be in a list of highlights. Kolindigo 19:32, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Image:DickButton-1990.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DickButton-1990.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 19:50, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Locopops

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Locopops, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Fair use rationale for Image:1977-compulsory-figures.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:1977-compulsory-figures.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Halloween food category

Hello Dr.frog,

Please do not add any more All Saints' Day foods or Day of the Dead foods to the Halloween food category. Halloween is a distinct holiday. You may want to create categories for those holidays and their foods.

Gladys Knight & Ron Winans' Chicken & Waffles

FYI, I posted the following at Talk:Gladys Knight & Ron Winans' Chicken & Waffles:

Redirect to chicken and waffles, rather than Deletion

At 17:43(UTC), 9 November 2007, User:Dr.frog made the edit: "mark for deletion due to lack of notability/external references to establish notability", and clarified this comment with "Doesn't seem particularly notable as a business; owners being notable for other endeavors doesn't make the restaurant itself notable". She makes a valid point. Accordingly, I have merged the content of this article into chicken and waffles, and rather than delete this page, have changed it to redirect to chicken and waffles. Hi.

I'm not savvy with the nomenclature and classification of stubs, but are you sure Coffee Cub should be changed from drinks-related stub to coffee-related stub? After all there are a variety of other drink 'containers' ranging from mug, tea cup, coffee cup.

Figure Skaters

Hi there. I noticed that you've been contributing to articles on figure skaters and seem to have some interest/knowledge/books on the subject. I've been working on the biographies of Olympic athletes, and I was wondering if you happened to have any sources/knowledge of certain figure skaters were still alive or not. The ones I've been wondering about are Fraser Sweatman, Toshikazu Katayama, Audrey Garland, Stewart Reburn, Margaret Bennett, Kazuyoshi Oimatsu and Ryuichi Obitani. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers, CP 02:49, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Corn dog

I re-added the content from Cornbrat into this article, cuttin gout the cruft and fixing the cites. I also noted my actions on the talk page. I hope that is acceptable to you. Bearian (talk) 16:34, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I think you were a bit harsh. "Corn brat" gets a few dozen Ghits , which while not enough for its own article, is verifiable. I also have eaten one of them at a local fair in upstate NY. So I'd like to insert some real cites back into the corn dog article. Bearian (talk) 16:53, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
I added back one small line, with 4 real cites, and moved the batter info to another section. I think that's a better batter now. :-) Bearian (talk)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Img elmerslogo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Img elmerslogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Stop re-categorizing low-carb cat and articles

I created and/or contributed heavily to the category and articles. Please stop your disruptive edits. Kwan

I'll just let it go. I guess it's my fault for trusting the original poster for the facts. I still believe it's probably worth noting somewhere (notes or footnotes perhaps?), but we could work on that maybe latter after your done cutting down some of the stuff you don't like. As for article length, articles on Barry Bonds is twice as long. Bill Clinton's page is 3x as long. Considering Kwan's special standing in the sport, I don't think the article length is a problem.User:calbear22 (talk) 23:00, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Breshna Orya

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Breshna Orya, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Breshna Orya. Fair use rationale for Image:CarloFassi-ChristaFassi-JillTrenary.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:CarloFassi-ChristaFassi-JillTrenary.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 12:09, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Johnny Weir Edit War

Please stop with the edit war on the Johnny Weir page already. It is very tiresome. I realize from reading the Discussion page that you have a longstanding history of not liking users other than yourself to add information to the Weir page, but life is tough. There are many people who have a great deal of factual knowledge about Weir, and all of the information I have added is both factual and relevant to the particular subject headings. It is properly referenced and linked.

Your OPINION that information about what memorabilia he collects or pets he owns does not belong under the subject heading of "Personal Life" because it does not relate to his "life as a skater" is simply wrong - there is a very long section about his life as a skater under "Career". Misplaced Pages articles about individuals are NOT limited to information about one singular aspect of their lives, and you are not the sole authority on what is too trivial to be included. Now, stop with the immature editing war already. It is not up to you to revert an article several times a day because you have appointed yourself the Emperor of All Things Johnny Weir. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.222.244.219 (talk) 22:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I am a professional Archivist, archiving information is what I do. The Johnny Weir article contained a large amount of both incorrect and improperly referenced information (not to mention poor grammar and sentence structure) and I have been working on cleaning it up in my spare time, along with several other articles about other figure skaters. It still needs more work, and I will be making more edits to add more references and make sure all of the statements are correct and written as clearly as possible. I never said you were picking on Johnny Weir in particular, just being a royal pain deleting the exact same information dozens of times without discussion. After you had done it a couple of times, you could have at least posted an explanation for why you felt the need to keep deleting it on the discussion page.

I do not agree with you that the information you are deleting does not belong under the "Personal Life" heading because it is unrelated to his skating - if it were related to his skating, it would be under "Career". It is comparable to information that is posted on the Misplaced Pages articles of other eligible figure skaters, such as Evan Lysacek ("his favorite possession is his Greek Orthodox cross") and Stephane Lambiel ("his good luck charm is a ladybug").

We can argue with each other until we are both exasperated, and we can engage in an editing war until Kingdom Come, all without resolving anything. You are a copy editor and I am an archivist; we both have legitimate reasons to believe that we know what we are doing when it comes to what information should go onto the page. Any chance we can resolve this peaceably? 64.222.244.219 (talk) 00:20, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, you say you don't care enough about Johnny Weir to get into an editing war over his article, but I've read the discussion page on his article and you've already had a couple of drawn-out editing wars with other people on that very page, so that seems unlikely. At any rate, if you are willing to stop deleting the same things over and over, we can just let this drop then. But since you do seem quite knowledgeable about figure skating and skaters and are eager to edit, you might want to take a look at some of the sloppier articles about skaters on Misplaced Pages that could really use some slashing. Some of them are clearly being written by the presidents of the skaters' personal fan clubs and consist of little more than gushing. The Weir article is, even at its worst points, generally fact-based. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.222.244.219 (talk) 03:11, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey Dr. Frog,

This is in regard to the article Annalakshmi, I took the job of cleaning up all the irrelevant sections.

Since i went to this restaurant i know quite a bit about it. If you look at the History of the article, you'll find the difference. Tagging it with so many things? you take a call on it. Cheers!Randhirreddy 02:55, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Worlds-End-Hingham.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Worlds-End-Hingham.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Misplaced Pages uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Misplaced Pages.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:11, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Janet-lynn-1972.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Janet-lynn-1972.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Misplaced Pages's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

No content in Category:GlaxoSmithKline brands

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:GlaxoSmithKline brands, by another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:GlaxoSmithKline brands has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:GlaxoSmithKline brands, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Bacon Explosion

Hi Dr Frog

I disagree with the placement of tags at Bacon Explosion. The sourcing is sufficient to demonstrate notability, and I doubt if any other sources will be more demonstrative of notability that what's already there. Given that, if you don't think the current sourcing is sufficient, please take the article to AfD. No sour grapes on my part either way, and I won't take offense if you nominate it . . . consensus is the best way.

Fresno Pepper vs. Fresno Chili

I think that the page that has been renamed to Fresno Pepper is incorrect as the word 'pepper' referrs to plants in the genus Piper. Since Fresno Chilis are capsicums they should be listed as chilis not peppers even though they are frequently referred to (mistakenly) as peppers in North America. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:LoopEntry.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:LoopEntry.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mormegil (talk) 14:53, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Daniel Raad & Michael Solonoski

Additional information was added to the article before it was closed, showing that Michael Solonoski indeed fits the qualifications for inclusion, as he is competing at the "highest level of his sport" 2010 United States Figure Skating Championships. He also has competed internationally twice. If his article was removed, other athletes such as Jordan Miller (figure skater) should be most definitely be removed, as they have even less notability in the sport and even more limited international experience. Additionally, a stub should be added for Daniel Raad, who is competing at the 2010 United States Figure Skating Championships. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.0.119.138 (talk) 05:27, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:NicoleBobek-1995.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:NicoleBobek-1995.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. help on another famous pizzeria

Hi Dr. Frog- I recently created a wiki entry for Pizzeria Bianco, a pizzeria in Phoenix which has only been around since '94 but has been rated by multiple serious people as the best in the country. I've eaten there once (I live in MD) and was impressed and surprised that while Pepe's and Sally's and some others had entries that this one didn't. So i did some research and wrote one. Although I am just a grad student on the other side of the country and have no vested interest in the place, and I tried to write imparially, i've been told it's on the edge of sounding ad-like. So I was wondering if you might take a moment and edit/view the page to help make it more neutral. Thanks ps. it's cool to see that once someone gets a phd they get a special wiki acknowledgement for it. about 3 years from now i should be able to join those ranks.
