Jessica Valenti is a blogger and feminist writer from New York City. She is the founder and Executive Editor of the feminist blog Feministing.com. Valenti received her master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies from Rutgers University, has blogged for NARAL Pro-Choice America, and has worked as a freelance contributor for Ms. magazine. Her work has been featured in The Guardian, The Nation, TPMCafe, and Alternet.

Feministing

Valenti founded Feministing in 2004, as a source for feminist news and ideas "by and for" young feminists. It was created while Valenti was working at the National Organization for Women's legal defense fund, in response to what she felt was dismissal from older feminists.

Valenti became a topic of debate in the blogosphere when law professor Ann Althouse accused her of capitalizing on her looks while posing for a picture with President Bill Clinton.

Valenti and Feministing have been mentioned as part of the third-wave feminist movement.

Other publications

Valenti is a contributing author to We Don't Need Another Wave and Single State of the Union. She has written as a freelancer for Ms. magazine, Salon, The Guardian (UK), The Nation, Alternet, The Scholar & Feminist and Guernica.

Valenti's first book, Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters, was published by Seal Press in early 2007. To promote her book, she was interviewed by Liberal Oasis, Alternet, New York Magazine, Salon.com and The Colbert Report. In May 2008, Valenti published her second book He's a Stud, She's a Slut...And 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know.

Personal life

On October 3, 2009, Valenti married Andrew Golis, the deputy publisher of Talking Points Memo.
