Changing username/Simple
Shortcuts
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.
Requests to "usurp" an existing username should be made at Misplaced Pages:Changing username/Usurpations; straightforward requests may use Special:GlobalRenameRequest.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Misplaced Pages,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.
CautionDo not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account; this merely indicates that you should log in under your new user name as the request has been fulfilled.

Current requests

Is3-stopzilla → Jim Kirkpatrick

Rashad bolden → Emporia Arts Council

Bureaucrat note: Fixed malformed request. Original post here. Required items still missing, please re-submit request. Useight (talk) 19:18, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Clerk note: i saw this some hours ago... i wasn't convinced that it was meant to be a rename. See Emporia Arts Council and the user's talk page. There isn't a notice about the removal of grossly malformed requests so i left it to those with more experience since i can't see the now twice deleted article. delirious & lost 01:28, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

SpArC123 → SpArC

Oydy → @oydy

Jeffrey Lebowski → Jeff Lebowski

LDEJRuff → NickeloonDisney

  • SoxBot Beta has evaluated this request, and renaming appears to be possible. SoxBot (talk) 21:09, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
  •  Bureaucrat note: I think this choice may run afoul of the "don't use company names" part. Also, it could be seen as promoting your YouTube account, which is also disallowed. Anyone else have any thoughts? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:54, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
    •  Clerk note: Joe, I'm going to have to agree with you on this one. To me the proposed name crosses the line from "fan of ..." to probably being mistaken as an official representation of Nickelodeon and Disney. Use of your WP account to promote yourself or your (forthcoming) YouTube channel are reasons that i have seen users blocked or their rename requests declined. Also being in Canada i try to remember US copyright laws and something about the logo on this user's user page just is not sitting well with me. The mouse ears appear to be redrawn but the addition of a space between the "D" and "i" in Disney along with the use of parts of trademarked text logos for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network... at minimum i would consider it nice, but a derivative of copyrighted or/and trademarked logos and inappropriate for user space. Overall i would say the name and the logo are misleading and promotional in the use of company names. delirious & lost 03:43, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, and I've deleted that logo as a blatant copyright and trademark violation. The last thing we need is Disney knocking on our doors for allowing such a blatant violation to remain. I've warned the editor as well. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:26, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Not done I agree with the comments above; this would not be an appropriate username. EVula // talk // // 04:07, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

AMITZORBA → VARANWAL

Bureaucrat note: Do you want your username to be all caps, or was that just because your caps lock was on.? Useight (talk) 15:23, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Thutahacker → MagicHealr

Done, but only since the request involved privacy. Useight (talk) 21:38, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Etashetash → Royalmeadowrd

2714st → Joy Bangla

Factsontheground → Factomancer
