Shell shock is mental problem that is caused by the bursting of the shell near a soldier. This condition affected many military personnel during the 1920s following World War I. Symptoms include headaches, irritability and lack of concentration. Doctors say that the bursting shell creates a vacuum and when the air rushes into this vacuum it disturbs the cerebro-spinal fluid and this can upset the working of the brain.
