Many fans believe that Hotch and Agent Emily Prentiss would make an excellent couple, where they are seen to have many scenes together. In episode (5x01) Emily is shown to be the most concerned member of the team after Hotch fails to show up for a case, prompting her to go look for him. In episode (5x02) Emily is seen escorting Hotch back to the BAU after his monh long leave after his encounter with the Reaper. Also many hints are seen in episode (5x08) where in the interegation room with " the Fox" the killer is trying to avoid the questions that Aaron is telling him, prompting for him to remark, "it must be distrracting to work with someone so beautifil." Emily Prentiss is a fictional character on the CBS police procedural Criminal Minds, played by Paget Brewster. Prentiss first appears in the episode "The Last Word", episode nine of season two, replacing Agent Elle Greenaway. Her role in the show's sixth season has been reduced, for what Brewster believes to be financial reasons.
Storylines
Emily Prentiss is the daughter of Elizabeth Prentiss, Ambassador of the Ukraine. She replaces Agent Elle Greenaway in the BAU, surprising both Aaron Hotchner and Jason Gideon, as neither of them had signed off on the transfer. Prentiss insists that her mother has not pulled any strings for her to get the assignment, and initially joins the team on a probationary basis.
Prentiss tells David Rossi that while she was in Italy as a result of one of her mother's diplomatic postings, she became pregnant at age 15. Matthew Benton, a friend of Emily's, had helped her get an abortion, which she did against the warnings of her priest and without her parents' knowledge. It is implied that John Cooley was the father of the child.
Prentiss is a graduate of Yale and has been working for the FBI for approximately 13 years, primarily in the Midwest. She is fluent in Arabic, as much of her childhood was spent traveling and residing in the Middle East. She is also fluent in Italian and Spanish, though her Russian is very basic and stilted. After being pressured by Section Chief Erin Strauss to assist in the end of Hotch's career, she briefly resigns from the FBI. However, Penelope Garcia manages to keep her departure on hold in the computer system just long enough for the rest of the team to convince her to stay with the BAU. Upon her return, Strauss remarks that neither Prentiss, Hotch, nor the rest of the team would be able to climb the ladder to the top because of all this, thus putting an end to some of Prentiss's future ambitions.
Emily was kidnapped with fellow colleague Spencer Reid by a man named Cyrus where he beat and tortured her after giviing the two FBI agents a threat of telling him which one was the real FBI agent.
In the season 2 episode where Reid is captured by a killer with multiple personalities, Hotch tells Emily that she is doing a very good job on the team, and asks her why she hasn't flinched or be shown to have fear on any of the cases.
