Announcements
- Swedish government glossaries, from sweden.gov.se. They include descriptions of governmental and administrative functions in English. We may move them to /Terminology.
- A bit of statistics: In August, a total of 209 new Swedish-related articles were found and listed in the new articles list - an average of 6.8 articles a day. (Note that the figure includes a number of music albums by Swedish artists and other, erm, specialist topics.) 39 of the created articles had been previously listed as requests on this page. Many of them, however, are still rather short stubs. / Alarm 12:00, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
- The Swedish province articles were moved from Latin to Swedish names in May/June, e.g Ostrogothia --> Östergötland. If you see Latin provincial names, you are encouraged to change them, except in the case of Scania where both Skåne and Scania are OK forms. Arguments or comments can be presented at Talk:Skåne.
- We now have excellent coverage of the stone age. If anyone chances to be interested in these matters, s/he can read the articles on Kongemose culture, Fosna-Hensbacka culture, Nøstvet and Lihult cultures, Pitted Ware culture, Alvastra pile-dwelling, Ahrensburg culture, Bromme culture, Hamburg culture, Corded Ware culture, Funnelbeaker culture, Ertebølle culture, Maglemosian culture. 18 August 2005
Kven
For quite a long time 1-2 editors write the Kven article, which basically claims that Kvens/Cwens permeated whole Northern Europe.. I have reasons to believe that it is original reasearch and POV-pushing. I periodically delete some really abnormal claims related to countries outside Scandinavia. Unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge of Northern European history and not a single expert with second opinion editis this article. Please help. mikka (t) 20:36, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Possible candidates for deletion
- Furbo , a village that does not establish notability. Fred-Chess 18:50, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
- Bjärv , a folk musical group
- Leifi, no context, probably not notable? / Alarm 23:15, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- If there was an article for the radio show Hassan, it could be moved there, but there is none, and I guess that it would ruin P3 (radio station) by taking up more than 50% of the space. Conclusion: delete. Obli 00:11, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
- Kristian Walker, Tsunami victim who posthumously was the center of a tabloid news story based on a rumour that soon turned out to be false. I'd say he's not notable, filing this under "Misplaced Pages is not a memorial" as per September 11 precedent, but I'd like to hear other's views before listing it. / Alarm 23:25, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
- Personally, I feel that this victim is perhaps a little more notable than other victims of the tsunami, due to the additional press coverage. I remember this case making headlines here in the UK, including BBC coverage. Also, I note that the tone of the entry isn't particularly gushing - sometimes, this type of article uses language such as "beautiful child", "innocent victim", "appalling tragedy", etc. However, on the other hand, I'm sure that many, many more of the victims of the tsunami had unique circumstances which people would say makes them notable, and many of them made headlines in their own right (although perhaps not to the same international extent), so I doubt that I would actively oppose a proposal for deletion. CLW 06:39, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
Current Projects
- Anti-Stubs. Many short articles on minor Swedish topics have a stub tag, despite not being easily expanded upon, and thus not qualifying as Misplaced Pages:Stubs. To make it easier for those wanting to expand true stubs, these articles should be turned into {{notstub}}. Also add a commented out explanation why it is not a stub. // Fred-Chess 11:43, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
- Wikireaders. After German influences, we have decided to initiate a English "WikiReader Sweden". This WikiReader should be able to be printed and published. The WikiReader is distributed as pdf files, and unlike wikipedia articles they extensively cover its subject: in our case Sweden. A first attempt WikiReader currently only including Stockholm, looks like this: Image:Stockholm Wikireader first draft.pdf. Comments and critique should be made at our talk page. // Fred-Chess 13:19, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Sweden's Municipalities
- Current status: Most municipalities have been improved. Remaining municipalites are: Municipalities of Östergötland County and Municipality of Uppsala County. Fred-Chess 20:26, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
