Steven G. Kaplan, (February 23, 1962; San Marino, California) is an American film producer. He is best known as co-founder of Rainstorm Entertainment in 2002.

Biography

Kaplan is a co-founder and President of Rainstorm Entertainment, a privately financed feature film development, production, finance and sales company. As a film producer, Kaplan financed and produced Terror Tract starring John Ritter and Bryan Cranston, and The Big Empty starring Jon Favreau, Rachael Leigh Cook, Daryl Hannah, Kelsey Grammer, Adam Beach, Sean Bean and Joey Lauren Adams. Artisan Entertainment released the film theatrically, Showtime Networks purchased cable rights and Lionsgate Entertainment released the film on DVD.

Kaplan also served as the primary financier and producer for the documentary Fuck, released theatrically by ThinkFilm, as well as WWII documentary Red White Black & Blue, which appeared on PBS/ITVS in November, 2007. His other producer credits include Big Bad Wolf (Universal) and The Lost Colony (Sci Fi Channel/Allumination Filmworks).

Kaplan is currently producing the feature documentary State of Control, shot on location in Tibet, Nepal, China, India, Japan, Denmark, Canada and numerous other locations. He is also in post production on the feature film Billy Bates in Iceland. Kaplan is currently producing a slate of feature films budgeted between $10-65 million and is attached as a producer to a number of television series, both scripted and non-scripted.

Sales Agency and Distribution

Rainstorm expanded in 2005 to sales and distribution with the formation of its sister company, Launchpad Releasing. Under that banner, Rainstorm has participated in the sales of "Razor Eaters," "Lenny the WonderDog," "Kids in America," "The Valley of the Heart's Delight," "Moola," "The Wonder Of It All," "American Fork" aka "Humble Pie," "The Village Barbershop," "The Heart is a Drum Machine" and "John Henry: The Steel Driving Racehorse."

Mr. Kaplan is also the founder and President of Launchpad Releasing</ref>], a North American distribution company.

Personal Life

Kaplan graduated from U.C.L.A. in 1985 with a B.A. in Political Science, attended Oxford University in 1985, where he studied economic structures and literature and earned hisJ.D. from Loyola Law School in 1988. He is a native Californian, having grown up in San Marino, California.
