Biography
Not much is known about Nikki Wood. She is a New York based vampire slayer in the 1970s. At some point her Grandmother was killed by a vampire.
She was called as the slayer "4 years" before her death,. so 1973. She was the second Slayer killed by Spike (he killed her in New York in 1977). She was the mother of Robin Wood.
For 3 and a half years before her death she lived, rent-free, in a small 2 room apartment behind the projection room of The Gem movie theatre on 42nd street because she had saved the life of the owners newthew from some vamps. Her Watcher, Bernard Crowley, resigned from the Watchers' Council and raised Robin after Nikki's death. She also had a Chinese American boyfriend named Li who was in the NYPD during her early tenure as Slayer but he was killed when investigating an illegal smuggling operation that happened to be importing a demon. Li may or may not be Robin's father.
Trivia
Spike's trademark black leather trenchcoat originally belonged to her, until he took it from her corpse.
April Weeden-Washington originally portrayed Nikki. However, when the character was brought back, stuntwoman April was deemed "too mature" by the show's casting directors. They wanted a younger actress, who could seem more like a vulnerable teenage mother for the role, so K.D. Aubert portrayed Nikki Wood in the seventh season. This means Nikki joins Buffy Summers and the First Evil as characters in the Buffyverse that have been portrayed by more than one actor (not counting stunt doubles). Weeden-Washington, however, attempted to spark an Internet write-in campaign among Buffy fans to have her recast in the role. This effort, nonetheless, came to naught.
