Woo-woo
Welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thanks for your contribution to the woo-woo article, but as a broad essay on woo-woo topics, it wasn't really suitable for Misplaced Pages. You might like to spend your time editing the individual articles on alternative medicine, cryptozoology and other subjects, rather than trying to discuss them all in one all-encompassing essay. WikiProject Rational Skepticism might also be of interest to you. --McGeddon (talk) 12:02, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- No problem, I've put the article back for you, along with a header highlighting potential problems, if you want to work on it. Make sure you aren't repeating material which already exists elsewhere in Misplaced Pages, though (I think a lot of it's already covered in the pseudoscience article), and stay focused on talking about woo-woo as a definition - the global warming material is only relevant if we actually have a quote where someone explicitly describes it using the term "woo-woo".
- If you've got any questions or need any help, try asking the good people at WikiProject Rational Skepticism. --McGeddon (talk) 12:41, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll work on it soon.
Moving articles
For future reference, you should move articles using the "move" tab (explained here) rather than cutting-and-pasting content back and forth. Using the move tab makes it easier for editors to keep track of changes to the history; I've just had to manually copy my edits from woo woo to woo-woo after you cut-and-pasted the article while I was working on it. --McGeddon (talk) 14:16, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- Appreciate the hint.
My current issue is that there is two Woo-woo pages. One is an index.php.
Page history
The "(+1,234)" means that you've added 1,234 characters to the article with your edit; if you removed a thousand characters, it would read "(-1,000)". It's a good way for other editors to quickly spot suspicious behaviour - if an edit is showing up as "(-23,138)" then someone must have deleted a load of stuff, if it's showing up as "(+32,187)" then it's worth checking that they've added original content rather than cutting-and-pasting something from another site.
Take a look at WP:WATCHLIST if you're wondering about anything else there. Cheers. --McGeddon (talk) 10:55, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Skepticism
I was just reverting the flow of the lead to match the flow of the article. I suppose the lead should ideally open with a general summary before dividing it up into historical flavours, though. Feel free to edit it, or bring it up for discussion on the talk page. --McGeddon (talk) 13:13, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Chiropractic introduction
Chiropractic is a health care discipline and profession which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The main chiropractic treatment technique involves manual therapy, including manipulation of the spine, other joints, and soft tissues.
Chiropractic is generally categorized as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Chiropractors differ on their acceptance of the Alternative Medicine label.
Chiropractic has two main groups. Traditional chiropractors ("Straights"), now the minority, assume that a vertebral subluxation or spinal joint dysfunction interferes with the body's function and its innate intelligence, and this is the leading cause of all disease. This is a vitalistic notion that brings ridicule from mainstream science and medicine.
The majority of Chiropractors since the 1930's are "mixers", the second group, which believe subluxations to be one of many causes of disease. They are more open to mainstream, or other alternative medicine, techniques and explanations for disease.
D.D. Palmer founded chiropractic in the 1890s and his son B.J. Palmer helped to expand it in the early 20th century. Throughout its history, chiropractic has been controversial. For most of its existence it has battled with mainstream medicine. The American Medical Association called chiropractic an "unscientific cult" and boycotted it until losing an antitrust case in 1987.
Evidence-based medicine has been used to review research studies and generate practice guidelines. Many studies of treatments used by chiropractors have been conducted, with conflicting results. Collectively, systematic reviews of this research have demonstrated that spinal manipulation is not effective, with the possible exception of treatming back pain.
Though, Chiropractic care is generally safe when employed skillfully and appropriately, spinal manipulation is frequently associated with mild to moderate adverse effects, with serious or fatal complications in rare cases. Furthermore, a systematic review of the published studies determined that the risk of death from manipulations to the neck by far outweighs the benefits.
Chiropractic is well established in the U.S., Canada and Australia and is the third largest health profession, behind medicine and dentistry. Chiropractic has had a strong political base and sustained demand for services; in recent decades, it has gained more legitimacy and greater acceptance among medical physicians and health plans in the U.S.,.

Edit warring
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of common misconceptions. Users who edit disruptively or refuse to collaborate with others may be blocked if they continue. In particular the three-revert rule states that making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the talk page to discuss controversial changes. Work towards wording and content that gains consensus among editors. If unsuccessful, then do not edit war even if you believe you are right. Post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Cresix (talk) 00:04, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
