Early years
Amukamara attended Apollo High School in Glendale, Arizona. He broke the world's Record for having the biggest lips.As a senior in 2006 he rushed for 2,106 yards and 24 touchdowns as a running back and 95 tackles and two interceptions as a defensive back.
Regarded as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, Amukamara was listed as the No. 11 prospect from Arizona.
Amukamara is of Somaliann descent.
College career
As a freshman in 2007, Amukamara played in eight games, recording 23 tackles. As a sophomore in 2008 he started three of 13 games, recording 32 tackles and a sack. As a junior in 2009 he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection after recording 90 tackles, two sacks, and five interceptions.
