Out of Sight is a 1998 movie directed by Steven Soderbergh. It was the first of several collaborations with George Clooney. The film was released on June 26 1998.

Other cast members are Jennifer Lopez, Ving Rhames, Michael Keaton and Dennis Farina as well as Soderbergh regulars Don Cheadle, Luis Guzmán and Catherine Keener. There is a cameo by Samuel L. Jackson at the very end of the movie.

Based on the novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard, Out of Sight is regarded as Soderbergh's comeback movie after several critically acclaimed but financially rather unsatifying movies. It was nominated for two Academy Awards (adapted screenplay and editing) and a large number of other prizes. It won the Edgar Allan Poe award for best movie and the National Society of Film Critics awards for best film, screenplay, and director. A modest success as a film, it led to a spinoff tv series Karen Sisco and has achieved a small cult following.

Plot

Template:Spoiler The story revolves around the relationship of a serial bank robber Jack Foley (Clooney) with a U.S. marshal Karen Sisco (Lopez), who are forced to share her car trunk during the bank robber's escape from a Florida prison. She chases Jack while he and his friends, Buddy (Rhames) and Glenn (Steve Zahn), work their way north to Detroit to pay a visit with shady businessman Ripley (Albert Brooks) who foolishly bragged in the prison they shared years earlier about having diamonds stashed at his Detroit mansion. Whether Sisco is chasing Foley to arrest him or spend a night with him adds to 'the fun' Foley thinks they are having.
