Life and career

Kelly has held numerous positions in sales, marketing and business development in his fathers business, Keltruck Ltd - a Scania truck dealership headquartered in West Bromwich - culminating in the position of marketing director for three years from 2006 to 2009. He is presently a non-executive director of his father's company and receives £40,000 remuneration for this role in addition to his standard salary as a Member of Parliament.

Kelly ran for the leadership of Conservative Future, but failed to be elected. In 1998 Kelly and a friend placed a £50 bet at odds of 10,000/1 that one of them would be Prime Minister within 40 years. After business school, Kelly worked as research assistant for Michael Howard in 2004/5 whilst the latter served as Leader of the Conservative Party. Following his election it was revealed that Kelly had emailed all Conservative MP's asking if they would give his sister, Nicola, a secretarial job. Kelly was accused of abusing his position.
