Hey, thanks for the message. As it is, WP:SIG is only a guideline, and not a Misplaced Pages policy. It is, therefore, a reccomendation for conduct, but violation of these guidelines are not against Misplaced Pages policy...they're sort of just unwritten rules. Here's the section on images:
:''There are several objections to having images in signatures. In particular, they are said to cause server slowdown, and to serve no purpose in an encyclopedia project other than vanity in addition to making pages more difficult to read. There have been some calls for banning them entirely; some people have objected to such a ban, arguing it would stifle creativity.''
I'm in the second group there. I don't think the images in my sig really drag the server all that badly, and I think when people see the U.S. and German flags next to each other, they know better with whom they're dealing. Please feel free to respond in my talk page. Thanks, ] (] | ]) ] ] 23:13, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Arctic Monkeys

Sorry about that one Arctic Monkeys revert (somehow I managed to copy the wrong text for pasting), but you didn't need to revert my capitalization correction later ;D Saaber 18:20, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry - I saw the first bit and figured you'd just rv'd to the wrong revision... I didn't bother checking in detail. Deano (Talk) 18:22, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Mardy Bum

Hello.

A friend who's other half works in music journalism says that they've been told Mardy Bum will be a future single, though not necessarily the next. Regards. Mjefm 23:52, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Most referenced articles

Hi - I was taking a look at Misplaced Pages:Most referenced articles and it said to ask you if you'd like something extra done. I've seen you're very busy with other things, so this can go bottom of your to-do pile, but I was wondering if you could do a new list for Jan '06, excluding US Census data... the latter skew results (IMO) unfairly.

Sorry to be a pain, Deano (Talk) 23:12, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I think the thing to do to avoid a million very-similar-but-slightly-different lists is to sort the list by topic: United States, Countries of the world, Cities, Political parties, Decades, Dates of the calendar year, etc. I'm pretty sure I can do this automatically by looking at what categories the articles are in. I will give this a try sometime, though probably not soonish, since I don't have much free time right now. Thanks for the suggestion, Beland 07:38, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Ham,

Just thought I'd say thanks for your contributions to the Portal's showcase picture section - I like the gallery format you have introduced at Portal:London/Pictures/Wikipedia featured pictures. However, for some reason, the National Gallery image is not being shown... I don't really understand why - the HTML seems ok... perhaps you know better?

Cheers, Deano (Talk) 15:06, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Don't know, sorry - it works fine for me. Ham 15:12, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Fair use violations User:Djr xi/User soccer am

Please do not use fair use images in userboxes. See WP:FUC. I note you have been warned about this already. So treat this as a final warning. If you cannot follow the policy, then please do not put images in userboxes or userpages at all. Further violations may result in blocks. --Doc 14:28, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake - I apologise unreservedly. I mis-read the correspondance above, and assmumed you had been warned. (My strong reaction was becasue many people are ignoring such warnings). Re-reading it, I now see you were in fact fighting the good fight, and this must simply have been a good-faith mistake on your part. Sorry - I need to be more careful in future. Thanks. --Doc 17:43, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Ericsson vs Sony-Ericsson

I'd reverted your edit . S-E is independent company that just inherited part of name and the old Ericsson keeps part of its stock. If anythingm S-E would be rather part of a broad Ericsson category.

The split happened because production of phones at Ericsson caused massive losses with even more bleak prospect for the future. Management and most of responsibility was given to Sony. Pavel Vozenilek 18:11, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

I see... fair enough - thanks for letting me know. Deano (Talk) 18:32, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Recreation of deleted content

You're free to use whatever content you wish in your own namespace, assuming it doesn't violate Misplaced Pages policies. However, note that user subpages which are intentionally transcluded as templates (see edit 39723996) are governed by the same provisions of Misplaced Pages policy that govern templates. As such, the userbox subpage templates you created will soon be deleted under criteria for speedy deletion G4 (recreation of deleted content) as well as the original deletion reasons. All instances of the templates will be substituted before deletion. This message will be crossposted to the administrator's noticeboard (incidents) if you'd like to comment. // Pathoschild (admin / ) 22:08, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Signature name

Hi Deano, I prefer to see user signatures which are identical or closely related to the real user name. Would you consider changing your signature to something more obviously attached to Drj xi ? Quarl 2006-02-16 12:44Z

Hi Quarl,
Thanks for your message. Hopefully this is an improvement... Djr_xi was an email address so it was an obvious username, but I generally assume people like to know my real name - hence Deano. Anyway, I've changed it to just DJR. Thanks for contacting me! DJR (Talk) 13:26, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Deano, yes, I like that! Thanks! Quarl 2006-02-16 18:40Z

Fix You

Hi,

You removed the link to the radio station WAVF from the Fix You page, saying tha that it was a minor station. However, WAVF was the sixth largest (of 24) radio station in Charlestown, a city with a metropolitan area populated by over half a million people, as of summer 2005. Why is it a minor station?

Cheers,

Acegikmo1 22:56, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello again,
Thank you for your reply. You make a good point about Charlestown being less renowned than the other cities listed. However, when I added the brief list of stations playing "Fix You" in the US, I was trying to show where the song's major airply was coming from in the US, regardless of how well-known the locations were.
I am actually from Boston, one of the otherm more well-known cities listed. But in fact the station supporting "Fix You" in Boston, WFNX, actually reaches a smaller audience (by a factor of ~4) than the station in the less-known city of Charleston. The reason I included both is that they are both used to calculate a song's position on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, where Coldplay singles generally perform best, and because both are among the 100 laregest metropolitan areas in the US. I agree that stats more important UK stations like Radio 1, Xfm, Virgin Radio, etc. should be included, but I'm simply more familiar with the US data, and I feel that all the stations I listed, which gave 20+ plays/week to "Fix You", are reasonable choices for inclusion.
Cheers,

New runway at Mangalore

From what I last heard the new runway at Mangalore was supposed to be commisioned in April. But I do not know what the current status would be. When I travelled to Bombay last July, I could see (from the plane) that the new runway which is at an angle to the current runway was fully laid across a couple of hill tops. However the sides of the runway that fall between the hills (ie to say in the valley sections) had yet to be built up.

Also I could not see any construction going on taxiways to join it to the current runway. The Airbus 319s that are now using the current runway belong to Kingfisher Airlines. From the press release it seems that this aircraft doesn't require the full length of the current runway at all;-)

Typo on your user page

Hmmm, did you leave out a "not" when you said "US copyright law annoys me, but that does justify its violation on Misplaced Pages." ? FreplySpang (talk) 17:06, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Good Laugh! :)

Greetings,

This has nothing to do with my weak oppose on your RfA (I'll be happy to support next time, as I said.) Having skimmed your political opinions, I find it amusing that you support the independence of Tibet and Kurdistan, but oppose (tongue-in-cheek, I hope) the American Rebellion. How adorable! :) Best wishes, Xoloz 18:23, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Mr. Jefferson, in his rough draft of the treasonous instrument, felt similarly. Of the British, he wrote:
We must endeavor to forget our former love for them, and to hold them as we hold the rest of mankind, enemies in war, in peace friends. We might have been a free and a great people together; but a communication of grandeur and of freedom it seems is below their dignity.

(teary-eyed) Best wishes, Xoloz 18:44, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Your RfA

Because of irregularities I have restarted your candidacy without prejudice from the beginning. Please be prepared to respond to issues that may be brought up on the WP:RFA page. Cheers, Cecropia 08:41, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

POV thing

Hello! Having voted for your RfA and read your user page, I thought I'd pop in and add my support to your views on the whole POV, NPOV, userbox thing. Your user page puts it very very well, and I hope people are persuaded by your arguments. Waggers 11:03, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Request for adminship

Heya, I was going to leave a long message with lots of userboxes in it, in honour of your user page (I like to be creative from time to time), but then I realised it was late, and I'm just too lazy to figure the darn things out anyhow, so I'll stick to plain english. ;-)

I left a weak opposition on your request for adminship, because I think you haven't quite clued in to the actual cool stuff that's going on here. Originally everyone joining came from free content projects and such, so it was all kinda "duh, same old, but kinda different". Now we're getting folks from all over, and no one ever really took the time to explain all this stuff :-)
