Lajen (Template:Lang-it; Template:Lang-de; Archaic (985 AD): Legian) is a comune (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 70 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 20 km northeast of the city of Bolzano (Bozen).

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,401 and an area of 37 km². According to the 2001 census, 90.82% of the population speak German, 5.34% Italian and 3.84% Ladin as first language.

The municipality of Lajen contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Albions, Freins (Fraina), Ried (Novale), St. Peter (San Pietro), Tanirz (Tanurza) and Tschöfas (Ceves).

Lajen borders the following municipalities: Barbian, Kastelruth, Klausen, Urtijëi, Villanders, Villnöß and Waidbruck.
