Internet2 is a not-for-profit consortium led by over 200 US universities and a number of corporate partners from the networking and technology business, including AT&T, Intel, Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems and others.

Internet2 is not a separate network from the Internet. It is an academic testing ground for such technologies as IPv6, IP multicasting and quality of service. A primary goal of Internet2 is to ensure the transfer of new network technology and applications to the broader education and Internet communities.
