This effectively meant that all children now have to be "bussed" to the new school, and it is very time-consuming to get into school if you miss the school bus. St Modan's RC High School is an S1-S6 Catholic High School in Stirling, Scotland. The schools roll currently stands at over 800 pupils, who travel from areas outwith the usual catchment areas, however as it is a Catholic school, it is exempt from usual boundaries. Pupils travel from the Denny, Banknock, Alloa, Tullibody, Sauchie, Alva, Raploch, Cowie, Bannockburn, Braehead and Riverside areas. The school has a locally famous music department in Scotland, with the choir being invited to sing at various government locations in the United States in 2004. In the music department pupils who get instrumental lessons also get the chance to play in the school swing band and orchestra. Unfortunately, the orchestra very rarely rehearses these days and the mixed choir has fallen away with the result that St Modans no longer has the spectacular music recitals of past years. In 2008 St. Modan's High School moved to a new site as part of Stirling Councils £10 million Public Private Partnership regeneration of schools. The new site was originally planned for a field adjacent to Bannockburn High School however due to Historic Scotland objections and also parental concerns over sectarian violence (Bannockburn being a secular high school with a high Protestant catchment area), the new site was announced as being in Springkerse Retail Park in Stirling directly opposite the Travel Lodge Hotel. This effectively meant that all children now have to be "bussed" to the new school, and it is very time-consuming to get into school if you miss the school bus. The school is also next door to Forthbank Stadium home of Scottish Second Division side Stirling Albion which gives the school access to a huge list of new sporting activities for pupils to participate in. The new school is also placed close to a sewage works, providing the area with a range of delicate aromas which vary from day to day.
The school day has also changed implementing an experimental "Period 7" (As opposed to the usual 6 in Scottish high schools) which was supposed to take place 3 days a wee. All pupils S1-4 are forced to participate in a range of timetabled creative and physical activities in art, sport and music. These are optional to S5/6 but as there is no public transport, pupils have to either stay at school doing nothing for an extra hour and 20 minutes, or pay for their own transport home. Pupils choose their Period 7 options from a long list of exciting options such as gardening and cookery. Unfortunately the school does not have its own swimming pool, and although pupils and parents alike were promised that use of The Peak's facilities would be possible, this promise has never come to fruition - as have many. This Period 7 was operated under the School of Ambition programme, promoted and financed by the Scottish Government. It only ever operated on one day a week and was only compulsory for S1 to S4. The programme is coming to an end at the end of the 2010/2011 session. The school moved to the premises by the start of the 2008/2009 school term.
The Headteacher of the school from 1997, Frank Lennon OBE, moved to Dunblane High School in June 2010 along with Depute Headteacher, Margo Wilkinson. In February 2011 it was announced that they would not be returning to St.Modan's, but would be remaining at Dunblane. The reason for this was given as " a combination of circumstances". The newly appointed Headteacher is one Mr Raymond O'Neill.
