Image Tagging Image:Wmcross.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Wmcross.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairusein|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --Admrboltz 23:13, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Ian Smith
Exaptkiwi. You have inserted the following text in the main article :
QUOTE Smith feared that Gibbs - acting on orders from London - would not reappoint him and his government, and that the positions, and therefore the government, would be given to the Black Nationalists UNQUOTE
What is your source for this?. Wilson gave his word that majority rule would be phased in over a fixed period of time, and that was an era in which a man's word was his bond. I do not recall Smithy making any suggestion that Wilson would "do the dirty" on anyone and I cannot find any such claim in Smithy's autobigraphy. Sorry if I am overlooking something obvious.
If you go to the curous Rhodesian website page specified on the discussion page, you will find the following text concerning the Fearless talks :
QUOTE What particularly stuck in the Rhodesian gizzard was a British requirement regarding possible amendments to the entrenched clauses of the Constitution - that if such an amendment were found by the Constitutional Council to be unjustly discriminatory between the races, the Council could refer it to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, which would have the final say. UNQUOTE
The thrust of this was that Wilson wanted an absolutely concrete guarantee that majority rule would be phased in over a fixed period of time and Smith would not concede this.
best wishes.Bob.BScar23625 16:44, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Re : your response. Fair enough. It's a while since I looked at that book. The general point being that Smithy wanted to carry on "business as usual" for as long as possible with lots of get-out clauses over possible future change. The reason given at the time for rejecting Tiger/Fearless was that the Rhodesians didn't want constitutional blocks introduced which would guarantee majority rule at some definite future date. Even Smithy didn't suggest that the British government would immediately renege on its undertakings - the statement to that effect in his book is probably a recent thing. He was always a "leader of the gang" type, very much the playground bully. Bob BScar23625 20:33, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

You write :
QUOTEBut Smith was right about one thing: Other former British colonies hastilly granted independence all went downhill (one-part states, fracticide, coruption, etc.), so I don't think Smith was being entirely unreasonable about wanting to stop Rhodesia from going the same wayUNQUOTE
The biggest British colony "hastily granted independence" was India - and that seems to have managed OK. Independence was inevitable and it was just a case of managing the process. Rhodesia was quite a well developed country and things could have worked out much better than they have done. Believe me, Smithy and his cronies didn't help at all. That said, I remain optimistic for the long term future of Zimbabwe. Bob BScar23625 21:55, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

You write :
QUOTE the states that went downhill were in Africa. India kept its democratic tradition alive (though not Pakistan)UNQUOTE
In the era of decolonisation, many of the new states that emerged ran into trouble for two principal reasons :
(1) They were artificial nations which lacked any sense of unity or civil society. For example, Pakistan (Punjab-Assam-Kashmir-Indus stan)was just a collection of administrative provinces and its only unifying thing was the army.
(2) They lacked any real economic basis to function as independent nations. Witness most of the French colonies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Vietnam, Algeria and Zimbabwe are slightly different cases. Here, the colonial power left only after putting up a real fight (by proxy in the case of Zimbabwe). That fight often damaged civil society in the countries concerned and resulted in power being handed over to radical elements. This often takes years to recover from.
QUOTE Ian Smith is more of a man than Mugabe will ever be. UNQUOTE
That is an emotional statement. Personally, I think the two of them came pretty much from the same mould. Have a think about it.
best wishes, Bob BScar23625 08:26, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Sure. Our discussion has been entirely friendly and I wouldn't have it any other way. It just puzzles me that you attach hero status to an individual who is so utterly discredited. What did UDI achieve?. Most people who were around at the time now agree that it bought a few more years of prosperity and privelege for Rhodesian whites - but at an awful long-term cost for everyone in the country, black and white. Your view of Smithy seems to be of the Wilbur Smith novel type!.
Let's leave it there. Thankyou for replying to my notes.

I have been reading articles relating to Ian Smith and Rhodesia of late, and you seem to be a major contributor to these articles. I thank you for doing such an excellent job with them and share your admiration of Ian Smith, the UDI and a destroyed nation. Cheers, - G 14:30, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Ss-service.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Ss-service.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Misplaced Pages because of copyright law (see Misplaced Pages's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Misplaced Pages are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Image use and copyrights
With regard to Template:User NZ Olympic Supporter. The image you keep inserting is tagged as used under 'fair-use'- provisions (most logos are). Fair use images cannot be used in templates or userspace under wikipedia policy. Please read WP:FUC. I'll assume toy were unaware of this, but please be aware that admins have been instructed to ensure this policy is respected. Please don't insert any more images into wikipedia until you are familiar with it. Thanks. --Doc 01:04, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Again, you inserted a 'fair use' image into Template:User ATCA supporter. Please be more careful, and if you can't then avoid using images altogether. As a rule of thumb, most logos and trademarks are tagged as 'fair use'. Be warned that admins are blocking users for repeat violations. --Doc 18:09, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
The issue is not whether you personally have permission to use a particular image. If an image is present on Misplaced Pages with a "fair use" designation, it can only be used in a narrow set of contexts, for example in a closely related article. Fair use images are not fair use on user pages or in templates designed for user pages. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 20:40, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
If you're the copyright holder of the logo, you can decide if you want to release this image under a free license. However, be aware that most licenses considered free on Misplaced Pages allow others to alter the image and use it for any purpose. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 22:23, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- OK, we've been nice about this, and tried to explain. You may have the right to use this image, but wikipedia does not. If you can verify that the owner is willing to give wikipedia that right, that's one thing, but until then it must not be used. Your rights are not the issue, wikipedia policy is. We can discuss this if you want, but this is a final warning, if you reinsert the image, you will be blocked from editing. --Doc 22:25, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
A supporter of the Republic of Cyprus
I am heartened by the Republic of Cyprus moving to include Turkish-Cypriots and their candidates in the ballots for the House of Representatives as it should be according to the 1960 Constitution. It is a welcome change for the future of Cyprus as a reunified country. Eventually there will be a Turkish-Cypriot Vice-President again to take the post. Perhaps Talat should seriously consider.(UNFanatic)
Outsiders, like you if I might re-iterate, characterize Cyprus as ununifiable and being one of the world's most intractable problems. That may be so from the viewpoint of outside subverters of Cypriot affairs or of someone unable to believe that Greeks and Turks are capable of constructive re-integration. The sovereign rights of the Cypriot people deserve to be defended against outside interference, but instead London and Washington and Athens and Ankara have all pursued interventionist policies that combined to result in violence and division. The only solution is the stoppage of all such interventionist policies that have promoted the division in the first place.(UNFanatic)

Northern Ireland Templates
Well, let me be frank...I like what you've done, but you're asking for trouble. I personally won't use either of those. I think everyone has their wishes, but the problem is that the situation of Northern Ireland is complex, and causes a lot of tension.
I would like to add that you and I do have some common interests. Flags being one of them. Being a Kiwi, do you like Rugby? Anyway, bravo for the effort, but I'll let the two sides fight it out on their own with N.I. Let's just say I'm for Peace in Northern Ireland and for unity in Ulster.

Yeah, I did. Though it wasn't a children's book. It was an adult fantasy story.

Regarding Vandalism to the Ahmadinejad Talk Page
Please cut out the vandalism. You have your personal political opinions - they don't belong in the articles and there's no reason to bombard the talk pages with them given the fact that you do not even discuss changes to the articles in your posts. Moreover, you know good and very well it is not a "minor" edit. Respectfully, --Jakob Huneycutt 14:41, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 05:54, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Uzun.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Uzun.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
