Ptelea (Template:Lang-el) is a village in the northwestern part of the Evros Prefecture in Greece located west of Turkey and Edirne, southeast of Ormenio and Svilengrad, Bulgaria, north of Alexandroupoli and east of Kurdzhali, Bulgaria. Ptelea is linked with the GR-51/E85 (Alexandroupoli - Soufli - Orestiada - Ormeni). It is part of the municipal unit of Trigono. Its 2001 population was 477 for the village. The Evros river is flowed to the north which form its border with Bulgaria to the north. The name of the town was known as Karagatsoudi (Καραγατσούδι) and El-Karakas (Ελ-Καράκας), its Turkish name was Karaagaç and its Bulgarian name was Караагач.

History

Ptelea was founded in 1924 by refugees from Eastern Thrace. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many of its buildings were rebuilt. In 1997 under the Capodistrian Plan, the community of Ptelea became the new municipality of Trigono with 16 other former communities. Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.
