Welcome

Bienvenido Pr4ever, welcome to Misplaced Pages. Here's some tips:

Other useful pages are: how to edit, how to write a great article, naming conventions, manual of style and the Misplaced Pages policies.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian, tu amigo, Tony the Marine 18:13, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Que pasa mi amigo

I was in Georgia for 5 days. Check this out ]. Now, I have a question, did what McClintock say did that come out in a newspaper? Tony the Marine 06:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Mi Hermano

As you know too often the contributions which Hispanics have made have often been overlooked. This must stop! I believe that you should look at this and express yourself. Tony the Marine 06:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Re:Luis Muñoz Rivera

Copied over from User_talk:Jbmurray: No problem. I'm still figuring stuff out myself, and have already realized that it's easy to run into frustration for one reason or another, not least when people act as though they own a page. On the other hand, there's something understandable about that when they've put a lot of effort into it. Still, it hardly seems to me to be the wikiway. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 11:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Amigo

I wrote to Senator McClintock to ask him for a copy of the speech, plus I told him about what I did in Georgia. He wrote back and said the following:

"Dear Tony:

That's a great article on an extraordinary deed. I'll make sure El Nuevo Día or Primera Hora get this. Primera Hora has an occasional ongoing series called "Puertorriquennos en la Luna" about prominent Puerto Ricans around the world.

I'm travelling today and don't actually have direct access to my speech in which, indeed, I compared you to Puerto Rico's Official Historian, Dr. Luis González Vale, who is a retired General and one of our best-known historian, specializing in military history. I will get you a copy.

While Misplaced Pages got a bum rap with the John Seigenthaler incident, it is filling a knowledge void that in my times The World Book Encyclopedia never filled and I hear that you continuously look out to provide the best information possible on all things Puerto Rican.

After the Memorial Day ceremony, for the first time we had a concert-picnic on the lawn with the huge Mita Congregation Band, featuring pop PR and US music with some emphasis on Rafael Hernández' music (the historic 1965 Banco Popular TV special dedicated to him weeks before his death is now out on CD, courtesy of BPPR; you can get it at my sister's e-business, musicaboricua.com!). We're planning to do it again next year and I hope you can then make it so we can honor you properly and that, hopefully, there are fewer names to unveil then."

Kenneth D. McClintock

Pregunta?

You said: "Sonia Alvarez, which you correctly removed, should be replaced on the List of Puerto Ricans by Vannesa Garcia, currently the top rated swimmer, male or female, in Puerto Rico, and who will probably do very well at the upcoming PanAm Games in Rio de Janeiro"

Who should be placed on the list, Sonia or Vannesa? Since I removed the name, be my guest and add the name that should be on the list. Let me know who it is, so that I will not remove her. Tony the Marine 01:37, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Kimberly Casiano article

Thanks for adding to the article on Kimberly Casiano. Would you please provide citations for the information you added? Thanks. 11:09, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

On the José M. Berrocal Scholarship for Environmental Studies: The Ford Motor Company press only mentions Bill Ford. No mention of Ms. Casiano. If you can source this, then I think it belongs in the article, with the focus that you descrbed on my talk page — specifically, that it is the largest source of scholarships for Puerto Ricans seeking graduate studies. Otherwise, I think that an article on José M. Berrocal, with mention of the establishment of the scholarship in his memory, is a good next step. — ERcheck (talk) 12:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for looking for references for the article. She is woman deserving of respect. Her efforts to honor her friend are touching. Her commitment to education and helping others is admirable. — ERcheck (talk) 02:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

José Berrocal

Quick work! I see that it is a work in progress and you are working on citations. I've provided some. Looks like it is time for an article on the GDB. ERcheck (talk) 13:52, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

List of Puerto Ricans

Hi. Following some disagreements at Talk:List of Puerto Ricans and discussion at my talk page, we're suggesting trying to work out some consensus about recent additions to List of Puerto Ricans, particularly those made by User:Entre-Nos. We'd value your input. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 05:15, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey how's my friend doing? Thanks for letting me know about what happened to K. McClintock and his daughter, I was unaware of it until you posted the situation. I e-mailed him giving him my moral support. It is always a pleasure to see your work around here. Take care. Tony the Marine 06:40, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Proposed guideline at Misplaced Pages:Overlistification

Misplaced Pages:Overlistification is a proposed guideline that intersects with my proposed guideline at Misplaced Pages:Proposed guideline for lists of people by ethnicity, religion, and other cultural categorizations. There are some good things in Misplaced Pages:Overlistification and some things that would need to be changed. In particular, the section "Irrelevant Intersections by Race, Gender, Beliefs, Sexuality, Ethnicity, and Religion Lists" appears similar to what I've proposed. Some tweaking of language would be needed, but the similarities are there.

Unfortunately, there is an appearance that Misplaced Pages:Overlistification is being created to bolster one side of the debate around the deletion of certain types of lists. I'm sure the same could be said for my proposed guideline. As people may know, the guidelines and policies which succeed at Misplaced Pages tend to be the ones which reach consensus from people on both sides of a debate. Perhaps we should merge info from Misplaced Pages:Proposed guideline for lists of people by ethnicity, religion, and other cultural categorizations with Misplaced Pages:Overlistification, bring in info from the current list guidelines, and see if we all can't reach a general consensus on this issue. Any thoughts on this? Is so, join the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Overlistification#Problems_with_proposed_guidelines.2C_possible_ways_to_achieve_consensus. Best,--Alabamaboy 18:15, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Public housing in Puerto Rico

Yes. Those additions are welcome to the article. I couldn't find anything on Vivienda's history. - Mtmelendez 09:48, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Could you provide the source of your info? It would eliminate that pesty unreferenced tag. - Mtmelendez
Perfect. If the source is provided, and we expand the list with the information you provided, this list article might reach featured status. - Mtmelendez 03:30, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Acute accents

Oh, thanks for the notice, I know. But I need time to do all the work. Please be patient. --Damifb 10:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

For example in María Batista's case, it's illogical to revert the accent, it's better to correct the respective article's title! don't u think so? It takes about the same time (or less) and is much more constructive.

--Damifb 10:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

It's done for most of them. Could you check if I missed any name? But now I have a new doubt: Should those born in the USA still carry the accent? Perhaps they don't want it... Do you know if there is any Misplaced Pages ruling on that?

Saludos --Damifb 18:05, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Hmm I agree with you, but I think many won't. Then why would not we have to write "Los Ángeles" and "Santa Mónica"?

--Damifb 19:52, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Please see my talkpage on this, someone is now disagreeing with us and reverting my changes... I told you it will happen!! :)

Who is a Puerto Rican?

I'm a little confused. User: Entre-Nos says that unless you are born in Puerto Rico, you are not Puerto Rican. This is not a debate, just a discussion. I would like to know the answer to this, here:] Tony the Marine 02:01, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I have asked myself that same question. Born and raised in PR and living in NY for the last 25 years. My godson was born in Brooklyn and now resides in PR -- he's almost 18 and moved to PR when he was 5 or 6. A UPR student, he has been asked,"Where were you born?" and he will answer, "NY but I am puertorrican." For many years I was a fiercely defendant and believer that puertorricans are the those born in the island. However, 18 years later and after marrying a "newyorican" who is a Marine and who says "I am puertorrican" -- which I will reply,"no, you're newyorrican" -- I humbly accept that it's an individual perspective. Deeply inside I still struggle with my godson's perspective and my husband's remark and must keep my voice silent as I must respect their feelings, their decision. It's what you heart commands you to say. "Yo protesto" and, "I will be puertorrican even if I was born in the moon." Maru592 (talk) 14:03, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Tribute to "the Marine"

I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Misplaced Pages's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people.

On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that we would not be writing for Misplaced Pages anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work.

Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. Que Dios te bendiga, Tony, y que tu recompensa sea grande en el Reino de los Cielos.

Viva Puerto Rico libre. —Agüeybaná 16:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hey mi gran amigo, how are you doing? It is always a pleasure to write to you. I noticed that you have been creating a lot of Puerto Rican bios. lately. That is great. I looked over some of them and I noticed that some were short and could be classified as "stubs", therefore I recommend that you place the following Template on your shorter articles: {{PuertoRico-bio-stub}}. That way someone along the line will not nominate them for deletion. Como estan las cosas adonde tu vives? Tony the Marine 06:21, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll start including the Template immediately.Pr4ever 02:59, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Copyright violation in Eduardo Bhatia

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Eduardo Bhatia, by another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Eduardo Bhatia is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Eduardo Bhatia, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. CSDWarnBot 03:00, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Re:Charlie Pasarell

Add them back to the list. Tony the Marine 03:33, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of José Cabrera Costas

A tag has been placed on José Cabrera Costas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Misplaced Pages guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Verisimilus T 12:19, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

In light of your comments I've downgraded the tag to a "notability concern", as I remain unconvinced about this issue - a search on Google barely turns up any results, and the link provided is of limited relevance. Please add suitable references to the article to strengthen the case for its inclusion in Misplaced Pages. Verisimilus T 13:20, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

11/18/2007

After carefully analyzing the progression and development of Puerto Rico Wiki Page, WE have concluded that it has been a FLAGRANT project to UNDERMINE the EXPLOITATION of POLITICAL SOVEREIGNTY by:

with, but not limited to:

  • A False Portrayal and Impression of Puerto Rico
  • Distorted and Garbled Language Styles
  • No Insight about the Real Culture and Social Situation of Puerto Rico
  • No Enlightenment about the Education Status of Puerto Rico
  • Article Format Incertitude: Jumbled Structure and Disordered Composition
  • Unacceptable, Impetuous, Amateurish and Atrocious Article Hierarchy
  • Poor Copy Writing
  • Reversed Political Propaganda represented with the point of view of several individuals writing this article to vindicate and exonerate the point of views of other Wikipedians.

The purpose of Wikepedia is to EDUCATE every GENERATION with FREE THOUGHT, KNOWLEDGE and INTELLIGENCE, not SPECULATION or POINT OF VIEWS COMING FROM SEVERAL POLITICAL PARTY FANATICS. The Past Version was Confusing, Polarizing, Partisan and full of Bafflement. This article should not be reverted as it is now being examined by other administrators. (Media Cop (talk) 22:06, 18 November 2007 (UTC))

List of PR's

It is always nice to here from you. O.K., You know that you are among my most trusted friends, so do this:

"Tristani was the first Hispanic woman to be appointed as one of the five commissioners of the highly influential Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and served under President Clinton during the latter part of the 1990's"

"García Méndez, was He is the youngest Speaker in history. The Mayagüez General Post Office was named after him."

That way the notablility and importance of the person is well established. You see, as it was it didn't really say anything, for example: Tistani, former candidate ...., so what? But, now we can establish the persons claim to fame.

By the way, what is the above message (11/18/2007) all about? I want to share something with you. Senator K. McClintock is coming to where I live and he wants to meet me. Isn't that something? Tony the Marine (talk) 02:47, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Mi hermano, I went ahead and added the names of Trisani and Garcia Mendez to the "list". I checked out the person who wrote the message above (Media Cop) and it bothers me when people make ridicules accusations against such dedicated contributors as you and the others. Cada loco con su tema. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

McClintock

No, not yet. He is supposed to be here this week, I believe the 27th. You know, he is a down to earth guy, really nice (he reminds me of President Clinton, who was like a friend when I met him). He knows about my political views and we have become good friends. I really respect the fact that he did not let himself be manipulated. When we meet, I'll take some pictures and download them. I will send them to you. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:48, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Honored by the PR Senate

My dear friends in Misplaced Pages,

I would like to share with you that today, November 28, 2007, I was honored by the Senate of Puerto Rico with the "Resolution of the Senate Number 3603" in appreciation for my work in Misplaced Pages regarding Puerto Rican military related articles. I was given the resolution on behalf of the Senate by the President of the Puerto Rican Senate, the honorable Kenneth McClintock. It was a total surprise which I did not expect and that is why I want to share this news with you my friend. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:12, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Yeah, I'll have the pictures ready by tomorrow. Senators Juan E. Hernandez Mayoral and Jorge I. Suarez Caceres were there among a lot of other people representing the three political parties. They also want me to go to PR this coming May to give a speech (with expenses paid). Man, it was a real surprise. I went by myself and didn't take my family because I thought that I was only going to meet McClintock and that's all. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:13, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Henry Klumb

Hi PR4ver, I agree with you that mentoring is important. The reason I edited the line relates to two issues: The first is that mentioning only McClintock's father limits the mentoring aspect. Perhaps we can add other notable apprentices to add to Mc Clintocks name. Regarding the second part of the edit, in my research on Klumb I have never found any collaborative projects between HK and Toro Ferrer. I've researched the Klumb archives in AACUPR at the UPR and have yet to find anything done jointly between them. I'm looking for some project images to add to the Klumb article. Also needed is to rate the article. Two projects Im also watching and collaborating with are Antonin Nechodoma and Lindsay Daen. Congratuations on your work. Saludos. Outlying Areas Senate Presidents Caucus and Joseph M. Mendiola

Having read your message I can agree that the affiliation is relevant as Mendiola's name in press coverage had never gone beyond the Marianas if not for this Hawaii meeting. As to Mendiola even having a page, I think he does pass the test of "notability", but most GU and MP legislators don't have their own article as (1) their background and political history (even just what their current term is) are hard to research, (2) minor roles in politics (except for Speakers/Senate Presidents), and (3) the small sizes of the territories' population and the small number of Misplaced Pages editors.

I write local news roundup for a GU/MP Chinese monthly paper so I constantly monitor the news, but have yet to see anything mentioned in the GU/MP local media regarding the Caucus. After Googling, the only results are from HI/AZ (English) and PR (Spanish). The lack of coverage may very well be the result of the small number of journalists in GU and MP.

On the other hand, I wasn't able to find any result of "Outlying Areas Senate Presidents Caucus". Is it an official or a provisional name? HkCaGu (talk) 05:00, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Arthur Lichtenberger

Ah! I'm not going crazy after all. I wondered, as I was going through the Succession of Bishops of The Episcopal Church (U.S.), which I've been doing to add Category:Bishops of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, how I had missed Arthur C. Lichtenberger, especially since he's a presiding bishop. Now I see that you just created the page an hour (to the minute!) before I got there! Cool!  ~ InkQuill  02:29, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I got to him as I was documenting the consecrating bishops of Puerto Rico's first native Episcopal Bishop. ThanksPr4ever (talk) 10:30, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

I appreciate your support on the bishops/presiding bishops categories. I don't understand where these "rules" come from. Why have a subcategory if it's going to reduce the entries in the category? I really don't understand the logic. Of course, changing the mentality of all the other editors is probably a fruitless effort.  ~ InkQuill  03:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association

I have nominated Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. My friend, thank you for the "apollo". I went and placed the reference in the "list" for you. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Clean sweep

Mi buen amigo, I have been thinking that it is time to do a "clean sweep" of the "List of Puerto Ricans". As you know there are a lot of names of non-notables that do not even have reliable sources. I was thinking that since you are a trusted member who has worked on the list, that you, Raylast and I could tackle some of the sections and remove from the list the non-notables. Besides the military, which I always do, I could start with the educators section. I would very much like it if you joined us and picked the sections which you are most familiar with. Tell me what you think. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:56, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

  • O.K., so far the Actors section is taken. It is simple, you don't have to be an expert. Just take a section, for example: Authors and the names that you do not recognize, do a google search on them. If you don't find a reliable source to the person's claim to fame, then remove it. Take your time. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:56, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
I suspect you wanted to leave the message to Tony the Marine. He is the one in charge of the "Judges and Law Enforcement" section and not me. Paste the message on his talk page so he is aware of your comment. I don't think he has seen it on mine. ~RayLast 02:56, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Oops, in regard to Acevedo. You are right, I will add his name back. In regard to A. Cecil Snyder, he is not Puerto Rican and was appointed to his position by the President. It would be similar to all the military governors in Puerto Rico appointed by the President. The question is this, did Snyder make Puerto Rico his homeland? By the way, mi amigo, we really need you in the sweep, come on do the authors section. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:08, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Snyder is back in. The important thing here is that the criteria of the list be maintained and that is that it includes people who were born in Puerto Rico, people who are of Puerto Rican ancestry, and many long-term residents and/or immigrants who've made Puerto Rico their home. As you pointed out, Snyder falls in the people who've made Puerto Rico their homeland. You see my friend, I value and trust your opinion. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Miguelito el Heredero

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Miguelito el Heredero, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Misplaced Pages:What Misplaced Pages is not and Misplaced Pages:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Misplaced Pages or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Suggestion

Hi mi amigo, I have been looking around and I noticed that you have started a lot of articles such as Nelson Famadas, which is wonderful. Since some of them are "stubs", this is what I suggest: add {{PuertoRico-bio-stub}} and at least one verifiable source. You know how it is, somebody is going to take a look at an article like Miguelito el Heredero and nominate it for deletion (see above). At least with a verifiable source, it will have a good chance of survival. How does that sound to you? Tony the Marine (talk) 21:41, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Back at you

Hey, you're welcome. There's no real need to thank anyway. That's what Misplaced Pages is for. Keep contributing as well. There's a lot of information about him I can't find. Cheers. Thief12 (talk) 02:37, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Opinion

I checked the "List of PR" and saw a Gloria Gonzalez that was added without a ref., then I checked the article and I saw that it didn't have any references either. That led me to remove the person's name from the list. Now get this, I did a google search on the subject, I mean I figured that such a "notable" person who has received so many "honors" would have multiple mentions, but nada.

During my years in Misplaced Pages, I have come across two cases where the claims to notability were proven to be false. These two people even went as far as to creating articles in websites such as IMdB, but were proven to be a hoax.

I'm not saying that this is the case with "Gloria Gonzalez", but I am tempted to put the article up for deletion for lack of verifiability. You are a trusted friend and I would like to hear your opinion on the matter. Tony the Marine (talk) 15:28, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

  • It seems that she may be notable. What I'm going to do is "not" nominate it for deletion at all. However, I will leave the message on the creators page to see if he is motivated to post the sources. What do you think? Tony the Marine (talk) 21:24, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Gloria Gonzalez

Thank you for participating in the Gloria Gonzalez issue. It is great when level headed people like us can discuss an issue in a civil manner before making a final decision (She is notable enough to warrent an article). Only if others followed our example. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:40, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Eddie Mellado - inventor of the 3-point shot

Here is something that is interesting. My son told me that Prof. Eddie Rio Mellado invented the 3-point shot that is common in the game of basketball. However, I couldn't find any reliable source to confirm this. Now, if this is true, that would mean that a "Boricua" invented something that revolutionized the game of basketball and Mellado deserves an article in Misplaced Pages. I do know that la Asociación de Jugadores de Baloncesto de Puerto Rico has a "Eddie Rios Mellado Award" which is annually presented to the player who makes the most 3-point shots. This I found out when I checked the R. de la C. 2461 de La Camara de Representantes de Puerto Rico: . R. de la C. 2462

Now, what I was wondering is if anyone in Puerto Rico could come up with some sources (newspapers, books, etc.) which would serve as a verifiable source, because like I said before, I think that Mellado deserves an article. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:50, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Francisco Domenech

Hola mi hermano,

I will be in PR next week. A "User" wrote to me in my "talk page" telling me that the article on "Francisco Domenech" may be "self-pormotional", but I looked it over and could not find anything wrong with it. I left about four "citation needed" notices, but other then that it seems fine to me. I thought that I would let you know since you created the "stub". So, Como estan las cosas? Re:Congrats

Gracias. I wasn't expecting a recognition. K. McClintock invited my wife and me into his office in El Capitolio for a private meeting. There were a lot of Senators, including the President of the Camara - Aponte. When the Clintons arrived, we had a private session and took photos. McClintock presented me with a gift. I am a very humble person, so I felt kind of strange when in the ceremonies Fortuno's representative paid me tribute and then McClintock, plus to top it off they made me stand up to be recognized and everybody applauded, including the former President and his wife the Senator. I forgot to buy the newspaper the following day, but thanks to you I saw the article. What an adventure. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Pierluisi

I believe that his work in the first term is mentioned, I removed something about the second administration because it seemed irrelevant. I know the edit summary was a mess, it must have been momentary dyslexia or something. As a matter of fact, I noticed that we need to create an infobox for politicians that aren't in office. - Caribbean~H.Q. 17:20, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Sharing a thought

My friend I just want to share a thought with you,

You know, it amazes me that throughout history, the courage and commitment of the Puerto Rican soldier has been questioned. Can you believe that Major General Luis R. Esteves, the "Father of the Puerto Rican National Guard," questioned the fighting capability of our "Jibaros" and when the 65th Infantry was sent to Korea, the American high command also questioned the bravery of our men. Little did they know that the brave men form our island would eventually earn 5 Medals of Honor, 5 Navy Crosses and 15 Distinguished Service Crosses. But, what strikes me the most is the lack of knowledge of our military history that those who criticize us have had and continue to have.

It seems to me that after the United States took control of our island, the heroic actions of our "Boricuas" as members of the Spanish Army and/or the Puerto Rican militia, were eliminated from our history books. Not only are our heroes of the "past" not mentioned in our educational history books, but there aren't any statues, monuments or paintings to honor them. That is why I enjoy writing about these heroes and telling the world about them. I want the world to know that our people were brave soldiers with "cojones" before the United States took over the island and they began to serve the Armed Forces of the United States.

That is why I have written the stories of men such as Juan de Amezquita and the brothers Jose and Francisco Diaz. I hope that you enjoy them. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:10, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Puerto Ricans in World War II

My friends, Puerto Ricans in World War II will be featured in Misplaced Pages's mainpage on July 18th. I'm requesting your help in fighting the vandalism of that article that will be going on during that day. Thank you Tony the Marine (talk) 02:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Elba Rosa Rodríguez-Fuentes

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Elba Rosa Rodríguez-Fuentes, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. List of Puerto Ricans

How is one of my favorite Boricuas doing? I see that you are placing the names in the order that they once were. Some people suggested that the names should be placed in alphabetical order by first names because it was much easier then placing them by surnames since we have many people that use two surnames and "del" and "y" and so on, which they considered confusing. What do you think? Tony the Marine (talk) 07:40, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

  • It is always nice to see you around. I think exactly like you and agree with you on the matter. Some other editor went to a lot of trouble making those changes, if it was I changing what all those names back, I would go crazy. Tony the Marine (talk) 08:12, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm looking after the list since Luis, is no longer doing it and it isn't easy. The non-registered editor who changed the alphabetical order of the list did it in good-faith and since he really didn't vandalize it, I didn't say anything, but I see your point and agree with you. Go ahead and place the list in the correct order. My real main concern with the list is that every new addition be accompanied by a reliable source to proof the person's notablility, regardless of who places the name which includes me, that's all. Before we posted the verifiable rule, Ray and I went through every name in the list to check their notability.

Hey, check out my lastest article on an amazing person that should serve as an inspiration to our youth, Hila Levy. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:01, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Lolita Lebrón‎

I have reverted the addition for the time being, ad-endi isn't allowing me entry without a fee, thus the material can't be checked without paying, that is a risk that can't be held after the article has gone to GAN. I would recommend citing the newspaper itself, printed references can't go dead. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Disc page? - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:21, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Can you find me the article's author? I'mn going to use the "cite book" template, but we need that info. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:30, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
I assumed so, the template seems to be working without the author field, so there's no problem. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:27, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
I though he was portavoz de la minoria, but you edit PNP and politics articles a lot more often than me, thus I assume that you are more familiar with the tira y hala that we call politica in Puerto Rico, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
This isn't really related to Lolita Lebrón, but I am going to be working with Isolina Ferré shortly, there is a 300-page book that should provide a good ammount of information, but we will need details about her death and postumous honors. Since you seen to have ad-endi access and that newspaper is propierty of the Ferré-Rangel family, could you help me find some relevant articles? - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:51, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Joel Montalvo

I hate to say it, but I'm really tempted to delete this article. This man is a "behind-the-scenes" worker, there is virtually no way that we could ever produce a decent article out of it, his claim to notability is marginal at best, he has received one award, but I don't see an entry for every person who has ever received a single recognition. Working as an aide isn't notable per se, if we start including all of those there will be more than a thousand stubs under our scope. - Caribbean~H.Q. 14:08, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Several points regarding Montalvo:

At a very early age:

1-He has been a high-profile negotiator with House Speaker Aponte and Senate President MacClintock.

2-He really has accumulated, as far as I've been able to research so far, before he turns 30, 4 awards and recognitions First, becoming a highly competitive Córdova intern, a recognition worth over $10,000, second, a Thurgood Marshall awardee, third getting an article published in a law review, and fourth, getting an article published in a non-law review specialized publication.

3-Being one of a handful of long-time aides subpoenaed is a painful demonstration of the fasct that he's a key figure of the Administration. The Bush administration has dozens of behind-the-scene figures and aides, and the n they have Karl Rove, the late Tony Snow and a few others that merit particular recognition.Pr4ever (talk) 04:18, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Rick Amon

Hello Amigo,

I believe you, but the rules are there for everyone to follow, including myself. When I add a name, regardless if the person is well known or not, I post the source which cites the notability so that if someone else is not familiar with the name will have no trouble in finding info. on the subject. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:08, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Wow, someone already nominated the article for deletion. Anyway, I went and added a reference after his name. See this is what I expected:

*], NCAA volleyball player for UCLA, international volleyball instructor and coach.<ref></ref>

Which would given us this:

  • Rick Amon, NCAA volleyball player for UCLA, international volleyball instructor and coach.

Reference:

  1. Successful beach Volleyball Clinic in Cairo organized by CAVB

Speedy deletion of Rick Amon

A tag has been placed on Rick Amon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. NuclearWarfare My work 03:33, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Re:Rick Amon

No, don't give up and don't let this get you down. Don't you see, this has happened to me also, because there people out there who really don't care about our contributions as a people. No, the article and story of Rick Amon must be told and you should do it. First write the article in your sandbox, there no one can do anything to it. If you don't have a sandbox, tell me and I'll create one for you. After you do your article there, let me know and I'll check it. We (Boricuas) need you here. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:08, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Tony left me a note expressing concern that you may consider abandoning the project, personally I wouldn't encourage such a decision because of the lack of editors in the field that you seem to enjoy, politics. I examided the deleted article and think that the problem with is simmilar to the one I noted before, the article was small and covering a somewhat obscure figure. Now, this can be solved by adding some beef to the structure, for example if Amon represented Puerto Rico in international competition that could add an entirely new section, especially if detailed statistics are provided. I used to post directly after gathering some information, but lately I am using a "sandbox" to work with the material, which has proved successful turning two articles in GAs in less than a month, Tony has created a "workshop" for you where these projects can be worked on. Quality over quantity, Misplaced Pages doesn't have a time limit and I'm sure you prefer to have one of your articles promoted instead of staying at stub/start class. In that same line since you seem to be constantly informed of the government's actions, perhaps you could push the articles of a few current politicians over the GA line. I have worked with a few but my work is strictly limited to books, most current politicians don't have books published about them. - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:23, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Please better acquaint yourself with Misplaced Pages's expectations regarding Neutral Point of View before making further edits such as this. Thank you. --jpgordon 05:37, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Hello, como estas? I expressed myself in User:Jpgordon's talk page and I believe that things can finally be worked out. There is one important thing that I am interested in. Do you know on what day did the political advertisements come out on T.V. and is there a source as to when they were televised? This would answer a lot of things. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:06, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I just came around this by noticing the post in Tony's talk page. I must say that it surprises me to see such a post by an experienced user. I figure that you are PNP by the edit and the scope of your last edits, but please don't into actually promoting the party's campaign, by doing that you are acting no better than that guy that got the PIP's webpage blacklisted by spaming it all over the place. We have enough as it is and without Marcos there are few sysops in WP:PUR that can handle politics without annoyance. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:22, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for posting the names of the Senators. I went and added them. I had really messed up in Javier De la Luz's name (I have such a bad memory). Before I went on a cruise with my wife last week, I posted my latest article Puerto Rican scientists and inventors, check it out if you like. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:49, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

About the cruise

Well my friend, as I told you before I'm back from the cruise (a gift to my wife and myself by my son). The ship stopped in Catalina Island, Cali. and in Ensenada Mexico. The last time I was in Mexico was in 1969, when as a U.S. Marine, I was sent to Camp Pendelton and I visited Tijuana. The thing about Ensenada, Mexico that I had to see was La Bufadora and the Convention Center which once was a casino owned by Al Capone. Since you know that I enjoy history, I was able to visit the historical ship, the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, Cal. which saw service in WW II. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:38, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Peter John Ramos

Thnaks, I added PJR again and placed a reference also. That's why I like having you here, you can point out these things for me. Did you see the format the new format that I am using for the "military" section of the "List of Puerto Ricans"? What do you think of it? I think that it would be best if we organized the other sections in alphabetical order by surnames similar to what I did in the military section. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:41, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Pr4ever. You have new messages at Unschool's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Re:Sec. of State

Sure, I'll help you. I'll do it during the day. If you have time, could you take on one of these sections in the "List of Puerto Ricans" either the Actors one or the Composers and put the surnames in alphabetical order? Then I will do the rest of the "new Format" on them. I think the list is starting to look good. Tony the Marine (talk) 18:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I took a look at the template and it seems to me that they only want to include the "Sec. of States" of each of the "States of the Union" only and not the territories. I will make the suggestion that "territories" be included in the template in the "talk" page. I would like for you to also add a comment so that they can understand that this is an individual request. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:18, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
No, that's not what "we" have said. I suggested to Pr4ever that he use the template for the US state governors as his model; that template does include the territories. Unschool 21:08, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey, dude, nice job with your update of Template:Current U.S. Lieutenant Governors, but please remember to use that or the governor template as a guide before adding PR to the SoS template. Thanks. Unschool 17:31, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Pr4, please look at Template:Current U.S. Governors. Do you see how the territories are set off with their own section and heading, within the template? Please consider the person, maybe some 10-year old kid learning on his own, who does not understand that Puerto Rico and Guam and these others are not states. The way you are inserting this, you could easily cause someone using this for research to make an erroneous statement, perhaps in some report for school. We need to be as helpful and as accurate as we can, for the benefit of our readers.
If I really wanted to, I could make the argument that PR and the VI should not be included at all since the Puerto Rico State Secretary of State does not represent a state. But I'm bending over backward here, and saying that if you or someone else wants to include them, that you need only make it clear to the uninitiated that PR and the VI and the others fall into a different category. The Governor's template and the Lt. Governor's templates make that clear, and if—as I have asked several times—you would make that distinction here, then I will join, you in the spirit of compromise. Perhaps I am not being clear. If you do not understand what I am asking, let me know, and I'll try to explain it further. Cheers. Unschool 00:04, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

List of PR's.

I noticed that you started with the actors. I'm going to do the "composers - etc.". Tony the Marine (talk) 04:14, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

  • The "List" is finally done, it is now organized and it looks good. I want to thank you for all of the help and work that you put in it. Now, we have to make sure that all future additions be sourced and placed in a proper way. Gracias, Tony the Marine (talk) 04:42, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Antonio Sagardía

A tag has been placed on Antonio Sagardía requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. Cerejota (talk) 01:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

  • I just realized that on the day that Antonio Sagardía's bio was nominated for deletion for being non-notable (which perhaps was not totally apparent in the text as of that day), he was actually the Acting Governor of Puerto Rico, since both Fortuño and McClintock were off the island, attending Obama's inaugural, and the first Acting Governor of this four-year term, which makes him somewhat notable. Pr4ever (talk) 12:38, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Notability and Formating

The Attorney General of Puerto Rico, who has also served as Acting Governor of the island, is by definition Notable.

I added a bit of formating to help the piece.

Keep up the good work.

Governors

Good idea, go for it. Tony the Marine (talk) 18:12, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

  • You and I have become really good friends here in Misplaced Pages and that is why I feel that can have the liberty of discussing things with you my friend.

I was checking the governors section in the "List of Puerto Ricans" and I wouldn't have added the names of William D. Leahy or Rexford Tugwell because it would be against our criteria since they were not born in Puerto Rico, are not of Puerto Rican ancestry, they did not make Puerto Rico their homeland and their stay was short. Besides they are already in the List of Governors of Puerto Rico.

I didn't want to delete their names, because as I said you are my friend and I would rather have you do it. Now, I believe that the name of Juan Bernardo Huyke should be added because after all he acted as temporary governor in 1923. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:09, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Kenneth McClintock photo

I agree with you old friend 100%. I changed the photo in the infobox for one which I believed was sharper and crispier (I thought that in the other one he looked as if he was crying), but I'll along with one with the new change in his hairstyle (smile). I'll see if I can get a photo of his new oil portrait in the Hall of Senate Presidents from him soon. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:09, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

PR citizenship

Thank you for the note on the PR citizenship issue. I passed it on to User:Jmundo who is working in the article. I also received an answer from McClintock. I expect to have the Senate Oil Painting photo soon. Take care! Tony the Marine (talk) 05:28, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Political party strength in Puerto Rico

Hi Pr4ever. First, thanks for weighing in on this article—hopefully we can save it. Also, I noticed that you tweaked the party compositions for the Senate in 1993-96 and 1997-2000. I got slightly different counts from the official listing of past Senators. Is there an error in that source, or am I reading it (or simply counting) wrong, or was there some mid-session change in party for one senator? Thanks! Qqqqqq (talk) 00:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Ah, that's good to know—I had no idea it worked that way. Would you want to add that as a note to the chart? I'm not sure I'd get it right. Qqqqqq (talk) 01:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
If the official source made that mistake, perhaps they made others as well? I just went by what that source said, but I did find in another Misplaced Pages article that there was a PPD-Liberal tie after the 1940 elections that required some political maneuvering by Muñoz Marín, while the Senate document had a simple 10-9 PPD-Union split. Qqqqqq (talk) 02:02, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

State Secretaries of State of the United States

Hello Pr4ever,

The reason that I removed the cat. "State Secretaries of State of the United States" from Kenneth McClintock's aeticle was because after I viewed it, I found out that McClintock's name was the only sole name on the cat. which didn't seem right. See for yourself: . What I suggest is that someone create an article "Secretaries of State of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico" and then place the category in the article thereby going in tone with the other Secretaries of State articles. Don't you agree? I think that you could do an excellent job on the topic. What do you say? Tony the Marine (talk) 14:17, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Pr4ever. This is the sixth issue of WikiProject Puerto Rico's newsletter. The newsletter is intended to help all members to keep up with the latest news relating to the project. Continuing our new format, this issue will discuss the news, achievements and other incidences relevant to our project between fall and winter. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Flags and records

Greetings, during the past months, there has been a lot of activity and active discussion surrounding articles within our scope. Of particular interest is one that took place in Flag of Puerto Rico, in which several project members exposed their points of view regarding the tones of our flag. Ultimately, research brought forth a severe loophole in the regulation employed by the Senate of Puerto Rico. Our flag doesn't have official tones! Attempting to prevent future conflicts, I presented a proposal in the project's talk page. The subsequent discussion served as an perfect example of consensus. Thanks to everyone for your participation. In other news, our friend Tony the Marine added another impressive achievement to his brilliant resume. On December 8, 2008, his DYK hook for Ivan Castro (soldier) broke the previous all-time record for more views, receiving 71,300 visits. Tony has also been actively cooperating with this Newsletter, the inclusion of a new "Did you Know?" section, was entirely his idea. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I like your idea

Send me any addition information that you have or know of about political parties which have used flags in Puerto Rico. I really liked your idea and I'm thinking about working them in the "Political" section of the Flag of Puerto Rico which by the way made "GA". Tony the Marine (talk) 18:27, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

I need a favor

I may have some repairs done to my computer in the next couple of days and I was wondering if you could keep an eye out on the List of Puerto Ricans, making sure that everybody follows the rules because there is a lot of vandalism going on by non-registered users. Boricua in Space

  • I want to share with you and every Boricua in Misplaced Pages that today March 19th, our "Boricua" astronaut Joseph M. Acaba, proudly displayed and placed the Puerto Rican Flag in the Discovery Shuttle and that he played "Que Bonita Bandera" while doing so. His pride in his heritage, makes me even prouder of mine. Something that I can't understand

You know sometimes there are things that go on that I just can't understand. User: Rumpelstinkin created the "Sello del Secretario de Estado de Puerto Rico" which has been placed in the infobox of Kenneth McClintock, yet he continues to remove it, see: . I wonder Why? By doing so his image of the "sello" will be orphaned and someone will delete it. Therefore I can't understand his actions, what do you think is going on? Re: A nod to forever

Recently in my talk page I have been receiving very kind words which truly humble me. I thank everyone for those words, but I am only a small part of a wonderful group of Boricua Wikipedians who, regardless of their political or personal believes, have selfishly dedicated themselves to writing about the unbiased truth of the history and the amazing people of our wonderful and beautiful island. I thank God everyday that there are people like Joelr31, Caribbean H.Q., Pr4ever, Jmundo, Cerejota, Boricuaeddie, Mtmelendez and Demf just to mention a few, whose contributions are helping to create an awareness that despite the size of our island, we are a people that have a lot to be proud of. I firmly believe "Un pueblo que no conoce la verdadera historia de su pasado, no esta capcitada para elijir su futuro" and you can quote me on that. Gracias y que Dios los bendiga. Flag of Puerto Rico, Pt.2

  • You took the words out of my mouth, "CIA says it's true, don't necessarily believe it.". The CIA is an agency which is known for it's manipulation of facts and can not be regarded as reliable. I have rephrased the sentence a little in order to make it clear the the "design" of the flag was officially adopted and not the tones of color. You are my trusted friend, please make any fixes that you believe need be.Tony the Marine (talk) 19:24, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

The threat of a Puerto Rican State

Como estan las cosas? You know, one of things that the article reaffirms the importance of our work here. With our work we have let the world know that Puerto Ricans are not all terrorists, drug addicts, carriers of the AIDs virus and welfare recipients as the article claims. I think that together our group here is making a difference. Don't you agree? Tony the Marine (talk) 04:00, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Intentona de Yauco

My dear friends, you all have heard of El Grito de Lares, but have you ever heard of the Intentona de Yauco? Enjoy. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:43, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the corrections. You stated: "By the way, has any link been established between Mattei's role in attracting the American invasion and the selection of Guánica Bay, a part of Mattei's Yauco at the time, for General Miles' disembarkment? That would be an interesting point for you to research.'

Great observation, but highly unlikely for the following reason:

Mattei and the Puerto Rican Commission in New York were providing intelligence information to President McKinley's people and he favored an invasion via San Juan.

When General Miles aboard the USS Yale and his convoy departed from Havana, he was ordered by McKinley to invade Puerto Rico via San Juan, however Miles decided to invade Puerto Rico via Guanica while passing the Mona Strait and went against McKinley wishes, risking a court martial had he failed. Mattei was aboard the USS St. Louis which departed from New York and finally caught up to Miles Convoy after Miles had began the invasion. Mattei and his men arrived in Puerto Rico and were assigned to Miles headquarters in Ponce well after the Battle of Yauco. I think that it would have been highly unlikely that Miles and Mattei would maintained some type of communication while before that. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Opinion request

When I first wrote the Flag of Puerto Rico article years ago, it was titled "The flags of Puerto Rico" and was intended to be just that, an article about the flags of Puerto Rico. However, with time someone (who made a mess with the edit history) came along and changed the title to the current one.

I am thinking of two options per consensus.

1. Leaving the current title, "spliting" the article, keeping only the story of the "Flag" and it's evolution and creating separate articles about the "municipal" and "political" flags and have them interwiklinked in the "See also" sections.

or ....

2. Changing the title back to "Flags of Puerto Rico", its original title and keeping the article as it is, which would be less troublesome.

or ....

3. Just leave it as it is.

Your thoughts will be highly appreciated. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:02, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

To all my friends in Misplaced Pages. After so many years I have decided to take an extended leave from the project. My continued participation in the project has become less enjoyable as I have explained here. I thank God that I became involved in the project in the first place because not only have I used it to educate others, but I have also learned a lot from friends such as yourself. Try to maintain a high standard in your contributions and make sure that the truth is always told in what you write. Deletion of Puerto Rican images

As you all know, certain situations among which are included my personal health, have led me take a leave of absence from Misplaced Pages, however I believe that the idea proposed by Angusmclellan is an excellent one. Instead of nominating Puerto Rican related images by the masses, the images which have problems will first be listed in the page which I just created: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Images with problems. We will be given more then sufficient time as a "team" to find sources and make what ever fixes need be in order to keep them from being deleted. This is a Wiki-community team effort regardless of who uploaded the image. I ask all those who really care about the images related to Puerto Rico to post the link "Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Images with problems" in your "watchlists". The State Citizenship article was updated. See history,

Add U.S. Federal Code - Title 8 Aliens and Nationality Chapter 12 - Inmigration and Nationality Sub Chapter I - General Provisions § 1101. Definitions (a) 36 - The term 'State" definition.

See 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(36), 8 U.S.C. § 1101 - Definitions 36) The term “State” was defined; however just Puerto Rico and the CNMI has a constitution defining their jurisdiction citizenship.

One question

What do you think of this sentences on the Puerto Rico article?

After the plebiscite, efforts in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, to enact legislation to address the status issue died in U.S. Congressional committees. In subsequent plebiscites organized by Puerto Rico held in 1993 and 1998 (without any formal commitment on the part of the U.S. Government to honor the results), the current political status failed to receive majority support (receiving 48.6% in 1993 and less than one percent, 0.3%, in 1998, when the "none of the above option" received the joint vote of voters who supported "enhanced" commonwealth with sovereignty from the U.S. and some pro-independence supporters).

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Misplaced Pages:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

New Template

  • Hello my fellow Wikipedians, I recently succeeded in getting some photos released into the public domain from the Puerto Rican State Historic Preservation Office and created the template for such images, upon User:Quazgaa's request. See:Good news. The template which I created to be used on the images from the Puerto Rican State Historic Preservation Office is the following: {{PD-PRGov-PRSHP}} Tony the Marine (talk) 07:46, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Cathedral de Humacao

Feel free to create the page for Humacao Cathedral, the names listed on the images are those given to them by the National Register of Historic Places and does not accurately reflect their present status. You seem to have something you can contribute. A good reference for the Cathedral can be found here. Cuidate. Quazgaa (talk) 14:19, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Re:K.McClintock

I checked File:01 KDM.jpg and I don't see a deletion tag on it. Is there another image? Tony the Marine (talk) 03:36, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

  • I see. The "red" caption was referring to the "Image:Sello del Secretario de Estado de Puerto Rico.png", which was deleted. I removed the caption. I'm telling you, some people have nothing better to do. I don't see nor understand why that seal was deleted since from my understanding it is as much PD as the the Presidents Seal. Proposed deletion of Angel Morey

The article Angel Morey has been proposed for deletion because under Misplaced Pages policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners or ask at Misplaced Pages:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. The-Pope (talk) 02:09, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Re:PR Campaign

Sor Isolina Ferré

Look I don't disagree that it is unusual, the couple was truly gifted, and no one could have more respect for them than myself. However, the thing just stood out as an eyesore the way it was written. Maybe it could be re-written in some fashion to accomodate that, or possibly discuss the double-Recipient element somewhere later in the article. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic when I wrote "no one is born a nun", but when you are talking about Antonio Bacallao having 4 sons and 2 daughters and then suddently interject that with being a nun...something is surely out of place.

In any event, how would the siblings recipient be a good replacement for the "nun" part anyway? FYI, I believe I once saw documented somewhere that them two were the only siblings to have both been awarded the PMF. Maybe we could also consider adding a statement or two to the effect into List of Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients article, just like they now list the three folks that have received it twice.

Spanish Misplaced Pages

Hey! I notice that you like to edit about topics regarding Puerto Rico on the English Misplaced Pages. Would you mind also looking at es:Wikiproyecto:Puerto Rico and consider joining that? The Spanish Misplaced Pages needs some help with its Puerto Rico articles. Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 00:57, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Portal discussion

Hi

In the section,
"Since 1961 several Puerto Ricans have been appointed by the President, upon the advice and consent of the Senate to serve as United States Ambassadors to Venezuela, Spain, Costa Rica, Chile, the Dominican Republic, and the Republics of Mauritius and Seychelles. A Puerto Rican was also appointed by President Obama as ambassador to El Salvador. Pending the advice and consent of the United States Senate, the President issued a recess appointment so that the Ambassador could assume her post. This evinces the extreme trust the President and the Senate have placed upon these individuals, who serve the vital function of acting as the representative of the United States in foreign nations. As embassies fall within the Department of State, ambassadors answer to the Secretary of State. ",
I have had a concern that it may sound too "promotional." Maybe you can find a way to tone it down a bit. In deciding what is too promotional in the Puerto Rico article and what is not, I always try to imagine myself walking into a physical library say, 10 years ago, opening an Encyclopedia (Brittanica, World Book, that sort of thing) and reading about say, Hong Kong. If I read something like "This evinces the extreme trust the Prime Minister and Parliament have placed upon these individuals, who serve the vital function of acting as the representative of the England in foreign nations." , would I feel it was promotional or would I feel it was neutral? If it doesn't sound strange/promotional to you, fine. But to me it does. Just a thought. Greetings, Mercy11 (talk) 03:50, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I did not know if you did or did not write those particular lines, but seeemed to think you were in that neigborhood recently. In any event, I felt you could re-word it as you seem quite good at navigating "those" waters. I really prefer to leave it to you, or I'll came back to it at some future point. I am currently quite busy with some other issues, not to mention my own real life! Thanks! Mercy11 (talk) 03:38, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Opinion request

You may want to express your opinion on the subject if an article about Puerto Ricans in the US Space program should exist here. Tony the Marine (talk) 23:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Consensus

It has been suggested that the "List of Puerto Ricans" be moved and renamed "List of notable Puerto Ricans". The current name reflects a misleading title since it is politcally incoreect and may lead to the misconception that any Puerto Rican may be included regardless of the explanation given in the introduction. Misplaced Pages does not allow that the term "famous" be used since that term depends on the perspection of what an individual may consider what the term "famous" means, however the term "notable" is widely accepted by Misplaced Pages since there is an established criteria of the meaning of the term and there are variuos "lists" in Misplaced Pages which currently use the term notable. Therefore, I am calling on a 7 day consensus as to the renaming the current list to "List of notable Puerto Ricans". Go to: List of Puerto Ricans-Consensus Tony the Marine (talk) 17:44, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Office of Management and Budget of Puerto Rico

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Office of Management and Budget of Puerto Rico, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.anhglobal.org/en/who/people/ileana_fas-pacheco.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Nomination of Association of Naval Service Officers for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Association of Naval Service Officers is suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages according to Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Association of Naval Service Officers until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. ScottyBerg (talk) 18:08, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Credibility

Since you have made extensive edits to the article of Kenneth McClintock, I believe that it would be to your best interest to know that the credibility of his legal knowledge in regard to the laws which govern public domain images, is being questioned and discussed here. Antonio Martin (talk) 00:25, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

I would suggest that whoever requested the opinion from MacClintock, I presume your father was the one who contacted him, raise the issue once again and explain exactly what is needed to determine use by Misplaced Pages. You may want to ask those who are questioning the use of material owned by the Government of PR to hold off from deletion until that consultation is complete. Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest. Pr4ever (talk) 01:10, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Joel Montalvo

The article Joel Montalvo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:POLITICIAN and WP:GNG. This aide to the governor of Puerto Rico doesn't have any persuasive claims to notability on his own, apart from a student award. This article largely enumerates the achievements of the governor without explaining the subject's contributions. I can't find any substantial coverage of the subject in independent sources.

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Pburka (talk) 03:54, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Barea

Sorry, I didn't even realize there was a discussion about that at the talk page. Your comments had ended up in the Good Article discussion from 2007, so I missed them.

Anyway, I was just trying to follow the system that's been in place for Puerto Rican basketball players (see Carlos Arroyo, Peter John Ramos, etc.) I do recognize that "American" is the correct choice outside of a sporting context. Hopefully, we can get a clear consensus on the talk page. Zagalejo^^^ 22:53, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
